It's unitentionally hysterical that these monkeys don't actually know what they are doing. Reminds me of when British Rail was privatised and they handed the track maintenance over to Railtrack.

That company didn't have a clue how to deal with the highly specialised job of railway infrastructure maintenance - and neither did the contractors that they handed jobs to (like Jarvis). That's why we got Hatfield, Potters Bar and other disasters.

It's interesting that we talk about the magnificent achievements of things like the GCR and yet here in the 21st Century we get bridges that wobble, glass towers that melt people's cars and tram lines that collapse.

Read some of the comments in that Nottingham Post article, like this one:

“Just one of many blunders am afraid, earlier in the year they had to rip up the new track at wilkinson street because they forgot to put spacers in between the tracks to allow for expansion, and they buckled in the heat. Been talking to workers and some of the plans aren't ready yet, that's why they are sitting around texting most of the time, because they don't know what to do next. So lets give the contract to a company who's never done this before. No bins emptied on Southchurch, no organised parking for residents, but plenty for the tram workers and they reckon it's going great at the moment! Yeah right”

Stand need to be buying off Spain while they're making life intolerable for the people of Gibralta. We ought to surcharge flights to Spanish Territory...that would shut 'em up.

The problem being that these Trams were paid for long before the Dagoes started their Sabre rattling, otherwise they just wouldn't have been built, seeing as how "They ain't gorra pot t piss in" as my old man would have said !

An answer to the Gib problem (I know we're off on the usual tangent here!) Don't go to Spain for your jollies ! that'll soon fluff them up ! Seeing as how 6 million of us spend a billion quid there each year !

To go off on even more of a tangent....... I sometimes get the impression that half the population of Spain originally came from Britain. A few years ago it seemed that everybody was moving to Spain or buying a place there - before the bubble burst. I wonder how all those ex-pats feel about Gibraltar.

I think the only thing that expats will worry about is if any tit for tat government interventions affect their ability to get cheap flights back and forth to their property out there .

My BIL has a place near Alicante that they have owned for donkeys years . While it probably now isnt worth much more than they paid for it , they enjoy spending a month at a time there about 4 times a year .

If for some reason the cheap flights finished , that might seriously mess up their visits .

You can't even get 'cheap flights' any more. Although I did manage to find a little 'loop hole' and got the 4 of us out there and back with 2 cases for around £320 earlier this year (It's normally around the 500 quid mark) 5 years back you could have done that for less than 200 !

When I was there in Feb I stayed on one of these "Ex Pats" communities, great villa, shared pool, two large bedrooms and a lounge to sleep another couple in , 2 large sun terraces, lovely big kitchen and a utility room. They were going for 150,000 4 years back, they wanted 50K for this one for a 'quick sale' I was tempted , but it would have meant putting the kids down the pit or up chimneys and getting SWMBO to go on the game, for me to get anywhere 50 grand !

The Evening Post website says about the new trams..........

"They will have space for 58 seated passengers and 144 standing passengers, meaning each tram will be able to transport 201 people."

........Eh?

The trams are made in Barcelona, which is part of Catalonia - a region keen to get independence from Spain. We should be happy to support them ;)

If Catalonia does break away you'll see a country disappear up it's own derriere very quickly, seeing as how (At a guess) over 50% of the tourist dollar is spent in that region! None of the maps of the region that I've found show it , but the Balearics (Ibiza, Formentera, Majorca and Minorca) are part of Catalonia too.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the Canaries are governed from Barcelona too.
