  1. Past hour
  2. I’ve used Toro mulching mowers for the past six years, both a ride on and a walk behind. They chop grass and leaves into a fine mulch so I don’t have to collect the cuttings and drive back and forth to the compost heap. The mulch feeds the lawns and I must say they’ve never looked better. I cut about an acre and a half so I have a wealth of grass cutting experience! I’ve cut the grass six times this year already.
  3. Leaving Rayner aside for a moment.. ( I've been spelling it incorrectly..Raynor was my late Father in Law's stage name..) Truss's performance on the telly yesterday ... She comes across as seriously deranged and in deep denial. And she wants Trump back. And she supports Farage. And she opposes anti smoking measures Obviously not remotely influenced by the Tuffron Street mob..
  4. Today
  5. I've got to cut the grass this week with the mower so that should pick up any debris from the tree (I hope) and like you I tip the contents of the collecting bag/box on the garden to act as compost/soil conditioner, never thought to use my leaf blower though I could blow the leaves off my grass and into the field at the back of my garden, thanks for the tip Oz Rog
  6. We have two 8’x12’ greenhouses. In one we grow 14 tomato plants, usually Shirley. In the other we grow 4 Beefstake tomatoes, 4 cucumbers and a mixture of peppers and aubergines. Both greenhouses are now cleared out, cleaned and ready to go. I lit my three year old bonfire on Saturday which had become massive. About 20’ by 10’. It was a spectacular blaze! My veg garden had grown over since my hip problem and it’s getting a bit too late to rotovate it now. I might hire a deturfer, shift the grass and rotovate it ready for next year. We can buy fresh, locally grown vegetables from the shop in the
  7. Good on yer PP, an inspiration to us all, keep up the good work Rog
  8. The mainstay varieties I always grow are Gardeners delight and Moneymakers. They have stood the test of time being good croppers and disease resistant.
  9. I make a years supply of passata every year so I grow fleshy tomatoes like San Marzano, Coeur de Beau and Iraqi. The Iraqi ones are from Mosul originally and to prevent the seed from becoming lost, some bright spark in the Iraqi war collected loads to keep them going.
  10. Car! I’m going on my bike just like Rog.
  11. A small area in West Brdigford was hit by a tornado yesterday and caused a spectacular amount of damage in around 10 seconds. https://westbridgfordwire.com/west-bridgford-tornado-30-images-show-extent-of-damage-caused-by-freak-weather-event/
  12. Apart from Black Russian and Piccolo as cherry tomatoes what varieties is everyone planting?
  13. Had a big sleep in this morning. didn't get up until 9.15!! Usually 6.15. Yesterday was the last day of the World Erg Challenge for Indoor Concept2 bikes and rowers. There are 6k entries and the idea is to row or ride as far as you can between Mar15th and April 15th = 32 days inclusive. I was trying to get into the top 50 so I made a last effort by rowing just over 15km and cycling 49km yesterday. Just didn't quite make it, finishing 56th. I am fortunate enough to be a team member of the ANCIENTS - a crew I joined 19 years ago when I retired at 66 (you have to be over 65) many were and still
  14. I have a leaf blower that converts to a lawn vac. It mulches the leaves as it sucks them up and then I just tip the contents of the bag on the garden beds, it helps keep the weeds down. Deciduous leaves make the best mulch as it breaks down quickly. If the leaves are from eucalypts I put them in our green bin as they take forever to break down but I doubt this is not a problem in the UK. You are incredibly lucky to have the Pheasants, beautiful birds. We get the odd duck who soon polish off any clover in the lawn
  15. The company I buy my electricity from, we do not have a mains gas supply here, is offering new customers a $200 credit on their first bill if they switch to them. What about their existing loyal customers? They get SFA. Thanks for your loyalty.
  16. Great consistent bowler for a long time........sad that OZ................
  17. Sadly yesterday "Deadly" Derek Leslie Underwood passed away aged 78. He earned the nickname "deadly" due to his ability to skittle other teams' batsmen on rain affected wickets. He took 297 wickets in his career with England. It would have been many more but he joined World Series Cricket in 1977 and the rebel tour of South Africa in 1981/82 for which he was banned from international cricket for three years. Thanks for the memories Derek, you were one of the finest proponents of slow left arm spin bowlers England ever produced. Deepest condolences to family and friends.
  18. Another very windy day but make the most of it eh?, dustbin day today out here, general waste and garden waste, first job this morning was to (once again) clear all the cat poo off the garden, I've got some netting on the way to see if that helps with the problem (fingers crossed) at the moment my back garden is covered in leaves from the tall tree in the corner of the field, do I clear them up or do I leave them to break down and act as some sort of feed for the grass?, Might try out the powered scroll saw today cutting out some components for the wooden "golly frogs" frogs and teddy bear mo
  19. Politically correct tomato's PP? Rog
  20. Yesterday
  21. Make your car stink though eh?
  22. Heyup Barrie - I took it as light banter, so please don't go away... anyway my dark of colour tomato seedlings are doing very well
  23. Stapleford Woods are a long way from ‘that’ Stapleford though. Just off the A17 out of Newark.
  24. Stapleford has gone up market, its now known as St Apleford.
  25. I know it. Might be worth a trip, its only half an hour. I could eat them in Stapleford Woods. Keep away from the doggers though!
  26. Fish and chips = £7.00, nice too, he parks down Bassingham near the village playing field, 17.00 til 19.30 every Tuesday Rog
  27. Our chip van stopped coming years ago. I have to drive to the Burton Joyce shop as it’s better than the Southwell one. I’m not going again though as they charged me £22 for two last time. What does your van charge?
  28. it was dished up at 14.45 hrs, very tasty too Ian, looking forward to my fish and chips from the chip van tomorrow evening Rog
