  1. Had a big sleep in this morning. didn't get up until 9.15!! Usually 6.15. Yesterday was the last day of the World Erg Challenge for Indoor Concept2 bikes and rowers. There are 6k entries and the idea is to row or ride as far as you can between Mar15th and April 15th = 32 days inclusive. I was trying to get into the top 50 so I made a last effort by rowing just over 15km and cycling 49km yesterday. Just didn't quite make it, finishing 56th. I am fortunate enough to be a team member of the ANCIENTS - a crew I joined 19 years ago when I retired at 66 (you have to be over 65) many were and still

  2. People of a certain age might remember "Let's Go to San Francisco' by the Flowerpot Men in 1967, who were just a group of session musicians. They recorded a few other songs but none were successful. One was 'In a Moment of Madness'...which was later released by White Plains...although it was the same people. I'd forgotten how good it was.

Another very windy day but make the most of it eh?, dustbin day today out here, general waste and garden waste, first job this morning was to (once again) clear all the cat poo off the garden, I've got some netting on the way to see if that helps with the problem (fingers crossed) at the moment my back garden is covered in leaves from the tall tree in the corner of the field, do I clear them up or do I leave them to break down and act as some sort of feed for the grass?, Might try out the powered scroll saw today cutting out some components for the wooden "golly frogs" frogs and teddy bear mo

  8. Had a lovely day out in York today, checked the weather forecast before setting off and it looks like being a nice day but rain coming in about 14.30 so off we went, bit of traffic on the A1 for some bridge repairs north of Barnsley but other than that it was a nice drive, used the park and ride at Askham Bar, £2.40 for the two of us which was nice, first off we went for a cuppa at the Castle tea rooms plus scrambled eggs on toast just under a tenner for both of us, then a walk around all the tourist routes including a walk around the wall and a riverside walk looking at the pleasure boats, ni

I also bought six sheep, a Landrover Defender, a heated propagating frame, a pair of green wellies and a flat cap. I sometimes chew on a piece of straw as well.

  11. I’ve used Toro mulching mowers for the past six years, both a ride on and a walk behind. They chop grass and leaves into a fine mulch so I don’t have to collect the cuttings and drive back and forth to the compost heap. The mulch feeds the lawns and I must say they’ve never looked better. I cut about an acre and a half so I have a wealth of grass cutting experience! I’ve cut the grass six times this year already.

  12. We have two 8’x12’ greenhouses. In one we grow 14 tomato plants, usually Shirley. In the other we grow 4 Beefstake tomatoes, 4 cucumbers and a mixture of peppers and aubergines. Both greenhouses are now cleared out, cleaned and ready to go. I lit my three year old bonfire on Saturday which had become massive. About 20’ by 10’. It was a spectacular blaze! My veg garden had grown over since my hip problem and it’s getting a bit too late to rotovate it now. I might hire a deturfer, shift the grass and rotovate it ready for next year. We can buy fresh, locally grown vegetables from the shop in the

  13. It is just short of 100 days until the start of "The Limp Dick Games" The free to air TV channel that is telecasting the games is bombarding us with jingoistic adverts. Obviously all about Australian participants. When it is on we only see events where the Australians participate and never see any of the non main stream but nevertheless interesting sports. FFS Break dancing is not a sport neither is "sport" climbing or 3x3 Basketball, what in the heck is artistic swimming? Where are they going to surf in Paris? Have a guess, it will be in Teahupo'o in Tahiti, French Polynesia. What a bl**

  14. Due to us having something vaguely approaching decent weather.. I took the weekend off from fretting about my bathroom refurb and set about the garden. Yesterday I cut the lawn at the back, then planted up a few Lupins and other things from the garden centre. I noticed all had been nibbled at by something, but could find nothing on them or in the pots. I was left with just one Geum in a pot on the patio... I thought about cutting the front grass but was too 'whacked'. Later in the evening I went out with my torch and found FIVE snails all feasting on one Geum plant.. They are now h

  15. When the late Mrs Loppy used to go away. Usually to visit her folks in Nottingham. I tried to do a major upgrade then wait to see how long it took her to notice when she came home. Biggest laugh I got was one time I replaced the bathroom vanity mirror with a real big one. It took about three days before she came into the living room and said, "Did you do something to the bathroom mirror while I was away?" She was smart, sometimes I think it was her way of getting things done.

  16. Somewhere I have a medallion given to all the employees of the automotive components company I worked for in Sydney celebrating 75 years of operation. They only went and spelled the name of the company wrong didn't they. HR who organised it and did the proof reading of the artwork got an almighty bollocking from the MD. I suppose one day it might be worth something.

Nice little trinket given to me the other day, a pin badge of the Raleigh heron, We were given a pin badge when I worked in the fabrication shop at the Raleigh for a couple of years early/mid 90's, unfortunately I lost mine many years ago but a good friend of mine who worked in the design office came to my rescue the other week and gave me this one, I have put it next to a twenty pence piece for scale Rog

  20. . From Nottinghtransport, com: "It’s great to see such positive feedback from the community! The bridge is part of the Transforming Cities initiative and aims to enhance pedestrian and cyclist connectivity across the River Trent". They pat themselves on the back and boast 83% approved the idea. But... There were 1198 responses. 83% of that is only 991, this means they based their decision on the opinion of less than 0.3% of Nottingham's residents. More than 400, almost half of those that approved the idea, thought the location was in the wrong place. Look

  22. Stockport thoroughly exploited Notts' leaky defence last night although I think the scoreline flattered them. Notts started well enough but were soon punished for their disorganised defence. The referee was poor and Stockport took advantage. Over the season Stockport are worthy champions so congratulations to them. The irony for me was watching Kyle Wooton celebrate at the end, but we should remember that Macca Langstaff has scored far more than our ex-striker this and last season. Congratulations too to The Stags and their manager Mr Clough Jnr. After 11 years in L2 they'v

  23. That’s one of the downsides of LED lights on modern cars. When there’s a problem, the whole cluster usually has to be replaced. A quick search of the internet shows that rear light clusters for an S8 retail at just under £420, so the rest must have been a charge for diagnosing it, fitting it, and reprogramming the car to recognise it. And from my experience, cracks in rear light clusters are mainly down to the screws being over tightened when they were fitted.

  24. Mrs B, I've got bean sticks on the garden patch with upturned plastic bottles on top of them and they rattle about in the slightest breeze but has not stopped these cats, the small garden patch is only about twelve feet x six feet along the fence so that leaves around forty feet for the hogs to come in from the fields which they do The little garden patch is just to the left in this picture and as you can see there is plenty of room for the hogs and they go under the shed for the food I leave for them (cats cant get under the shed) Rog

  25. County - In front of 11,656 fans, no doubt many from Stockport saw the Magpies thumped 2-5 at home against Champions, Stockport County. Paddy Madden scored a hat-trick in the first half to put the game beyond doubt even at that early stage. His second goal was a penalty after Cowley's handball. 5 minutes after half time Stockport went further ahead with a goal from Antoni Sarcevic. The Magpies eventually opened their account with a goal from that man Macauley Langstaff in the 61st minute and two minutes later Dan Cowley bagged another for Notts but all too late as Etham Pye hit Stockport's 5th

  29. It's greatly to their credit that they could still perform in such embarrassingly bad conditions. A good demonstration of how pop music was treated in those days. The programme and organisation was in the hands of middle-aged men in suits who had no idea or understanding of what was happening.

  30. Not seen this before, a remastered live Beatles concert in Washington, the first one after appearing on Ed Sullivan. The beginning is almost comically amateurish as the screaming audience are on all 4 sides of the stage and Ringo sits with his back to the band ! First Ringo and then Paul try and rotate the drum stage with no luck. This rotation of the drum set and mikes goes on throughout and with the way Ringo was bashing those drums (but still holding the rhythm), it's a wonder the kit held together. George opens with Roll Over Beethoven. It's a

  32. Ben I've seen that vid many times. May have even posted it here myself. It's wonderful and that young lady can certainly dance, but it's not original. It was made in 1975.. a good ten years after Rick Derringer's band The Mc Coys had their original hit. Here's the real story.. The girl is called Lisa Leonard Dalton and was hired to dance to the tune in C 1975, a good ten years after the original hit. Also look at Rick Derringer's hair. no way it would have been that long in 1964 or whenever. There are various videos out there explaining it all but they have something in them

  34. Apparently hedgehogs are quite tasty. Back in the 50s we often had genuine travellers/gypsies camp near the end of our village and they told us that after dispatching the little critters and gutting them then covering them in clay and baking them in a fire. The spines come off with the skin along with the clay. Apparently, hedgehog stew is quite popular too. It is illegal to domesticate them in the UK but it is not illegal to eat them. in January 2023 some travellers in Belgium were fined 1,600 Euro for eating them. Before anyone arcs up, Guinea Pigs or Cuy are bred specifically for

The city is not paying for the bulk of it, but I do think the money could be better spent. The bridge will cross from the old Waterways site to... well nowhere really.

  39. Ah, Audrey is one of my favourite people, ever. As a child and teenager, my sister looked very like her. I got heartily sick of people telling my mother how pretty she was! There was a special aura about Audrey. For anyone who cares to look into her background, she did not have an easy life and suffered horrors during the war years when she and many others almost starved to death.

  40. What happened to the days when you could just open the boot or the hatch, pull back a bit of the carpet, take off a cover. twist the bulb out and pop in a new one. A few quid and away you go. Ease and cost of assembly of the vehicle trumps serviceability every time. Quite often the visibility of the modern light clusters is a lot less than the older cars.
