  2. I feel very sorry for the poor woman. The way the press and social media have behaved is nothing short of disgusting. Would these people like their intimate health issues posted all over scurrilous social media sites for people with nothing better to do to gossip about? Leave her alone and let her get well. I know there are many who never seem to cease axe-grinding about the royals and their supposedly privileged lives. Cancer is no respecter of rank or privilege. The poor girl would probably happily exchange her royal abode for a two up, two down ... and a cancer free body. I wish her a s

  3. For the last couple of years, Nottstalgia has been slowly drifting along going nowhere, often with the same 10-12 people talking to each other about nothing in particular. Contrast that with a few years earlier, when there were many more people logging in, browsing and contributing to a variety of topics. A major reason for the drop in activity is that Google wasn’t looking at Nottstalgia when producing search results. For example, if someone - anywhere in the world - searched ‘Fairham Comprehensive Nottingham’ or ‘Bulwell Nottingham’ using Google, the results would n

  4. 58 years today since I married the first mrs. Loppy, at Gedling church, Sept 11 1965. When we chose the date we had no idea what would happen in the USA in 2001. Unfortunate because that is now a painful reminder of the day. We had a happy marriage until she died of a heart attack on March 6 1999 three days after a car accident in which a guy ran a stop sign and hit her as she was driving home from my daughters. After two years of living alone with my dog I met the second Mrs Loppy through a widow/widowers support group. Her husband had died of a heart attack a year earlier. Subsequentl

  6. These are the pills. called Aromatase Inhibitors. I have to take one a day for 5 yrs or life. The first one called Anastrozole, left me almost unable to walk for about a month, the one the docs changed me to is called Exemestane, and things are looking up. I have had 4 whole days of feeling a bit more normal, I can walk and rest a lot better on this new pill. We hooked the bikes onto the back of the car and drove to our large 'West Park' yesterday and rode the perimeter twice, only 2 miles, but I am thrilled. I thought my cycling days were over. It is easier to peddle than to walk. Anyway. t

Anyway, my bod is finally settling down with the new meds. The anti cancer tablet is the one that has been causing me a lot of pain, the last three days have been a lot more comfortable though. There you are my Notty Peeps, you see I have been keeping my eye on you all, and thankyou for wondering where I am.xx

  8. Hows my day more like hows my month. It started off OK looking around a garden centre I saw a nice wooden arch and fancy trellis . That will go great on my decking so I purchased it . On placing it on the decking it made the decking look cr*p. so off to buy new decking. A lot of screws to take out and replace so I brought a new impact driver to make life easy. Old decking off only to find the frame underneath rotten so all old frame taken out new wood purchased. New holes dug and posts concreted in and new wooden frame installed all while having to move the summer house off the old decking. Ne

  12. I’m feeling really happy as one of our grandsons is moving to Nottingham from Newcastle. He will be working in Annesley Woodhouse with Galliford Try as a Graduate mechanical design engineer (whatever that may be!) He has sorted himself a flat in Bestwood which is only 2 1/2 miles away from where I grew up. It looks as though there are several ways to commute between his flat and work but I suppose it will depend on the time of day and the traffic which will be the best way to go.? I really am bubbling up with happiness ……

  13. The suspect in custody is a West African migrant with a history of violence. Whether this is a dinghy migrant or otherwise isn’t clear but either way lots of unchecked individuals from violent war torn countries is a powder keg waiting to explode. Beekay might be close to the mark. Time will tell.

  14. We had a little trip to Wilford Hill Cemetery this afternoon to say ‘Hello’ to my dear old Dad and put some lovely red roses on his grave. It’s 10 years ago today when he passed away at the age of 91, after surviving 25 years on his own following my Mum’s early death from cancer. He missed becoming a Great Grandad by just a couple of weeks unfortunately. We may go to the pub tonight and have a drink to him!

  15. The day after Boxing Day I went fishing with friends. We book a small lake the same day every year. It's an old 3 acre mill pond with a derelict mill house at the end. I've been fishing there for the past 50 years and I always reflect on the past, on this special day. I'm sitting on one of the benches and read the brass plate bearing the name of a long deceased pal. There are several such benches within sight and I imagine my old pals sitting on the benches that were dedicated in their memory. We are having a laugh or discussing the merits of certain fishing flies. I looked over to my lef

The older I get the less I am interested in getting or receiving presents. I am thankful for the good things I already have. Hope ya'll have a happy Christmas. From all at the Doghouse.

  17. 2am this morning saw me enjoying the sights and sounds of hurtling down the by-pass semi-conscious in an ambulance doing the full monty, blues and twos in full flight, and making a valiant attempt on the land speed record. A rather ill-advised application of Glyceryl Trinitrate dropped my blood pressure to the point where I took no interest in any further proceedings for several hours. Face planting the top step of the stairs is, I can assure you, not high on my list for 10 best things to do in the early hours of a cold Saturday morning. My nose taking the brunt of 16

  18. Indeed. Last time I was up and breaking all the rules in 24 hours. This time I couldn't straighten the knee enough to feel confident it was locked and wouldn't collapse. Also woke up in severe pain at 02:30 and had a few other issues. But improvement has been dramatic since and I may be home tomorrow. Presently in bed in my single room with ensuite. Prof Kay's Senior Research Fellow came to check on me today, as did someone from Enhanced Care just to make sure I'm OK. All seems very well organised.. So.. things still going OK.

  19. I’ve just had an embarrassing moment whilst I was on the flat roof of the sun lounge cleaning the gutters. A gust of wind sent my ladder to the ground and I had no means of communication other than shouting which produced no results as my wife is somewhat hard of hearing. Just then a neighbour came up the drive and spotted my plight which she found somewhat hysterical. She summoned my wife and the ladder was replaced. The problem is that a crowd of the local ladies are going to their annual WI dinner tonight and the story of my misfortune will lose nothing in the telling!

As I worked for NCT at the time, I hired a double decker to take our non driving guests to the reception dinner at Co-op Elizabethan rooms. Because I was a driver, I was asked if I would like to drive the bus with new wife in bridal gown on the platform at the back, as a publicity stunt. Having booked a posh wedding car, I politely declined, saying I was off duty.

  24. This is something I've just finished, the paint is still drying. A bit different to my usual rubbish. Done it muted colours to be in tone with our quiet, centre conservatory. Used metallic colours, bronze, gold, silver, anthracite as well as soft greens and yellows. It is a planter, but I want to block the drainage hole so it will hold plantpots.

  25. Not sure if to reply here or on the political thread but I’ll settle for here. I said that the man in custody was a west African migrant. As far as I am aware he is. I don’t know but will wager that his ‘mental health issues’ manifest themselves in violence. I further said that whether he is a dinghy migrant or otherwise is unclear. Although I can’t see the information you appear to have seen I am prepared to accept that he is ‘otherwise’ and been here a while. So he IS a migrant then isn’t he. I also said that letting large numbers of unchecked males in the countr

  27. For those of you that read my ramblings about being near to deaths door when I was in ICU for 12 days late last year. I have something to add. My wife inadvertently let slip that early in my stay I had to be resuscitated as I had "died". I have news for you all there is nothing on the other side, no blinding white lights, no choirs of angels, unless I was bound for the other place, no awareness of living then dying, just nothing. Also there was no awareness of being alive again. What did I learn from the experience? Life is precious but oh so short, enjoy what time you have as I will

The Swedish driver said "I have a Volvo truck and I pick up a load from Stockholm go via Gothenberg on the ferry to Immingham and deliver my load to Leeds and return in three days". A French driver pipes up and says "I have a Renault truck and I can pick my load up in Paris, take it to London and be back in two days". 29. I have been giving some thought to what the future looks like but today is bad enough. Here are my thoughts, of course based on Australia, is it similar to the UK? A place where you can wander the aisles of your supermarket to do your shopping and if you can’t find what you want because they have re-arranged the store yet again there is no-one to ask. Having done your shopping you can self-scan it without talking to the non-existent staff and just hope the technology works. Imagine talking to a store employee? How old fashioned. By the way Colesworths (large supermarket chains

The cooking instruction said 2 hours 40 mins at 190°, so after that time pulled out the part brown bird and prodded it with one of those digital meat thermometers . One of the readings pushed in the side was ok but another part was under the correct temp , so my wife said push it in deeper to see what the reading is there, which I duly did but temperature was still not right so put it back in the oven

  31. I heard part of Benjamin Britten's Ceremony of Carols on the radio the other day and it took me straight back to the festering season at the dreaded Manning. Manning held a service of Lessons and Carols every year but it wasn't held at the school due to lack of space. I suppose we girls could have stood in the quads, being snowed/rained on as we sang our methodically prepared and practised programme, while the parents and staff huddled in the hall. It would have given the proceedings a rather festive air but, truth be told, it was just as perishingly arctic inside the hall as it wa

I'm not sure of the exact date Alan Gilliver wrote his account but things have changed again, considerably, since he did so. The following was written by Alan on his memories of Bulwell, starting with Henry Mellish Grammar School. 'In those days the school was single sex and was in stark contrast to the happy times previously enjoyed at primary school. I must be honest and say that although there would be good times and good teachers, in the main it was an unhappy time. I often pass the school these

I 'summitted' mighty Billinge Hill, via the North Eastern route recently opened up. Apart from a couple of brief dips, (which only mean losing height gained) it is unrelentingly uphill, with the last bit being a very steep rocky scramble. Still, on the way, it was good to spot Willow Catkins and other signs of Spring. Also, it being a sunny day, and with few leaves to obscure th

It's the first time doing so since the kitchen refurbishment was completed and apparently I stowed everything in the wrong place, even the cutlery. Far from earning brownie points I'm in the doghouse as "even and idiot couldn't get it wrong". Not sure if I should demote trogg for setting a bad example or promote him to superstar

On a boring evening between Christmas and New Year in 2012 I googled ‘Dungeon Club Nottingham’, came across Nottstalgia and I’m still here and continue to be educated on many aspects of Nottingham and met some lovely folk along the way. Sadly we’ve lost quite a few over the years too, I miss them all.
