  3. Following on from Micks link to the article on Andrew Bryants death , have found an entry on the Electoral Registers up to 2013 for Carole and Stanley Johnson in the right area . Age seems about right but of course Johnson is a very common , name so its not impossible its another Stanley and Carole ? I have sent the address via private message to yourself (click on the envelope icon at the top of the page) . If Malcolm Bryant was her brother she is the one most likely to have contact details with the rest of the family . Can't see a phone number so its possible they have moved but maybe a le

  9. Oh those Mundella girls!! I learned all sorts after school in the Rock Gardens and before going home to do my homework. Back at the Becket we were encouraged not to recognise the emerging urges of adolescence. I seem to remember getting severe bollockings for "losing" my school cap (to be worn at all times) one of the Mundella girls I was experimenting with decided it was a trophy and took it. Still I seem to have lost a few things at that age. I think in the UK "fags" were younger boys that did as they were asked by older boys attending public schools - the kind of culture embraced by our c

If the ball went over one of the coats then there'd be an argument for the next ten minutes about whether it was a goal or not. The only time the game stopped was when a car came by but that wasn't ver

  14. I was a member of "The Nottingham Historical Arts Society" in the 70s and recall excavating caves in Bridlesmith Gate (West side). I got a "pre-commercial" tour of the Drury Hill cave complex that was discovered during demolition in readiness for building the Broadmarsh Centre. Someone from the NHAS also showed me around the Peel Street complex, which is probably the biggest set of interconnected caves we have. The fascination for Nottingham caves is that they are all man-made. Temperature down there is pretty constant (cool) and therefore ideal to use as pub cellars. Other uses have been

  15. Just looked up a few references on these points: According to 'Forward to Nottingham Victoria' by Ken Grainger (Book Law Publications), the embankments to the north of New Basford 'could be built up by spoil from the tunnels to the south [of New Basford], but that excavated from the Nottingham station site was required to be transported southwards to build up the site for the Queen's Walk goods depot and the approaches to the crossing of the Trent at Wilford.' But apparently there was delay in obtaining access to the site of the station, and instead the station site spoil was run out to the
