  1. In the early sixties I had a part time evening job. (between the ages of 16 and 18 years old) Does anyone remember the white hot dog carts powered by an electric motor? Worked with one for 18 months, one of my pitches was at the point of Central Market in full view of the palis De Dance ( not sure of the spelling now) Every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights I would be standing there rain, snow or fine. You will remember that we served up the boiled sausage with dehydrated onions in fresh, non sesame seed, buns. It was the mustard and sauces that gave them the flavour

  2. I believe that most people who join Nottstalgia do so because they have an affection for Nottingham, whether they live in the county or live on the other side of the World. I found the site because I googled 'Dungeon Club' so I could re-live my teenage years if you like. I'm not interested in trains and buses but I can appreciate that many members are. We come from all backgrounds but we have a common love of our home city. Some received an arguably better education through luck at the age of 11. Some have made it in business and probably had a better life than a lot of other folk. Some

  8. The night club at the entrance to the Vic Centre was the Intercon, I saw the Glitterband there one night, minus the paedo. They had quite a turnover in managers. John Truscott and John Bowers were two of them, JT had a Triumph T110 and JB had a Vincent Black Shadow. 'Barrow Boy' Tony used to sell hot dogs outside the club at one time.

  10. Good memories there, doubt if any of those food stands would stand todays criteria. Another favourite run of mine was to walk up Derby road from town, down Alfreton Road and Hyson Green, if early enough pick up some chips. Then along Radford Road and up Egypt Road to home. Never once did I have any trouble just merry folks in their cups all going home. Wouldn't do that run now without a 12 bore.

  14. Drifting slightly from the Bestwood topic, I was given a book last week Radford Colliery the Bread and Herring pit. The book almost looks home made, there is lots of pictures but they all seem to be poor photocopies. If it did'nt have a proper bar coded price ticket on the back I would have said it was self done. One of the articles is about a struggling miner, who was given a brand new house at Aspley. 116 wendover drive rent 6s.6d per week rates and water charges 2s.8d per week tenancy starting 4th may 1931 That might have been a lot of money then as they soon got behind with the r

  15. My rough upbringing made me what I am today. Living off National assistance, and having to sit in NA office waiting rooms, for mother to be interviewed before money was given. Often no food on the table, certainly no toys. (Un)fortunately most kids today will never have these experiences. If they did they may appreciate what they do have.

The lady on the right is my aunt, the lady on the left is the one who may or may not be Pat Box. Whoever she is i know that we saw a lot of her in those years. PS- I'm the little blondie, I'm about 5 1/2 yrs old and my sis who is 6 1/2 yrs old. See if you recognise anyone.
