  1. I thought that here in the 21st century we had sophisticated systems that could track where an aircraft was flying? We're now hearing that the standard communication systems on the flight were deliberately turned off, but don't the surrounding countries have radar to track objects moving into their airspace ? They must have seen it's path. Don't Rolls Royce have an engine monitoring system that tracks the performance of all of their engines in flight ? (I'm assuming that the 777 was fitted with Trent engines). 7 days after the flight disappeared we're being told that the satellite 'pinging

  3. the exact same thing goes on today via the fares wars. The number of start-ups that nctx has muscled out by running loss leading fares on a temp basis is disgraceful. Frankly, as the council own most of the shares, you'd expect them to try and shine some sort of moral light on the pratice

  4. I have a collection of books on or by Tony Benn including all nine volumes of his diaries. I personally think he was one of the giants of the "Labour" movement among others such as Michael Foot & Barbara Castle. http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2014/mar/14/tony-benn-obituary

  5. A building which had been empty for several years - and probably remembered by several people here - has finally disappeared. It was to the rear of building known currently as Ocean, and previously Sherwood Rooms and Astoria. Latterly it was a chinese.......like this:- But now it looks like this. And from the back it has opened up a view of the Castle which hasn't been possible for quite a few years.

  6. Tony Benn 1925 - 2014. One of the last TRUE socialist politicians of our era who refused to be sidelined by the cult of "New" Labour and stayed true to his convictions speaking up for those less privileged.

  8. If as you say you are thinking about the Peak District you would do no better than the Trans Peak bus service from Derby. It runs hourly and you can hop on and off at your leisure. From Ambergate on the route is a feast of opportunities for the photographer. First along the Derwent valley to Cromford, through Matlock Bath to Matlock on to Two Dales and Darley Dale to Bakewell with Haddon Hall and Chatsworth House. Then along the Wye valley before climbing up over the Taddington by-pass before dropping down again to arrive in Buxton, then on to Whaley Bridge. After here it gets urbanised.

  10. He upset a lot of people when he said bad laws could only be thrown out by violent demonstration. I think he was right...from the suffragette throwing herself under the Kings horse to the poll tax. Maggie didn't like it when she said 'We will retake the Falklands'...and he asked her 'Who's we? are you going?..are your sons and daughters going?'

  12. Plenty of opportunities in Nottingham itself. You only have to look upwards, rather than down, when walking around the city.

  13. Nottingham Omnibuses wasn't it? Cream-liveried double deckers with blue bands. Was it sometime in the 1980s? I don't remember them lasting long and very few people seemed to use them - I never did.

  14. The city centre is becoming a magnet for migrants shopping in the pound shop with benefits they never contributed to. Even the white people all sound like they are talking backwards. No wonder the city is dying.
