  3. Can you pick anyone out in this old crowd photo? Taken at City Ground, could be cup winning year 1959, but think it is perhaps a few years later. The position of the shot was to the right of the old "Shippo's Ivor Thirst Score Board" on the side opposite the bench.

  6. Looking through some of the old memorabilia I've got in the back of a cupboard I came across the leaflet for the 1972 Nottingham Festival - cover shown below. This would have been the third year the Festival was held, and seems to be the only one I kept a leaflet for. It's interesting to look at some of the events listed, and I thought I'd mention them here in case they brought back any memories. I haven't included everything, just what strike me as the highlights, with some distinguished names: The Festival ran from 8th to 23rd July 1972 At the Playhouse: 17th July - Emlyn Williams as 'D

  11. First trip of the year - to Florida to thaw out! Took three days to get down here, but it is a lot easier that way when you are towing a house. First location in Florida is Bonita Springs for a week to visit friends and family. At a rest-stop in central Florida - George has decided it is his turn to drive! All set-up at the RV Park in Bonita Springs.

  15. And here's most of them. I've managed to cobble this from the Old Maps site which used to be good but is now a pain to deal with. For modern day reference, the road coming in from the left is Shakespeare Street joining Mansfield Road (Melbourne Street).

  18. Instead of a few "spotters" staring out of various aircraft with binoculars, whey don't they have high resolution cameras streaming the video back to base, or even onto the net to enable everyone to have a look? As for conspiracies - I'm with the one where certain administrations don't want to let on to others just how much they are being watched. That data stream from RR Trent 800 engines - presumably they can tell if/when the engines were throttled back (slowing down) and whether reverse thrust was used (during a planned landing). What is clear now is that it is common to have one or two

  24. IVE Found over the years that having a sense of humour can defuse some tense situations.some years ago i got into spat with a big ugly bloke in a pub in Peterboro,he was sat opposite me at the same table and was really angry with me (he had been using foul language and i asked him to refrain) In fact he was enraged, and i am sure was about to hit me,WHEN HIS TEETH SHOT OUT and landed in his pint,i cracked up laughing, and thankfully so did he.

  26. I'm always impressed by the fact that when someone famous dies - whether they were celebrity, royalty, sport, politics etc etc - within a few hours of the death there are always several good jokes doing the rounds about that particular person. Are the jokes all stored somewhere, waiting for the appropriate death to happen?

  27. Many years ago, mid 60's, my mates girlfriend was invited to a party at Ruddington Nurses Home and told she could bring her boyfriend. As her boyfriend didn't drive, my mate and I offered to take them as long as we could get in. Upon arrival we were all welcomed except one miserable girl who had organised the do. I asked one chap who she was and he replied that it was his fiancé and that she insisted on my mate and I leaving as we were uninvited. As I'd brought everybody, my other mates girlfriend said OK, we will all go. On leaving, we passed the room with all the food laid out on a large tab

  32. As you get older (so I'm told) hair starts to increasingly disappear from your head, but increasingly sprouts in places like your ears, nose, and back. You sometimes see people - usually male - who have longer hair coming out of their nose than they do on their head.

  33. Let's look at the BBC's current top 'Comedy' shows:- 'Mrs Browns Boys' a totally stupid show, based around a ridiculous Irish transvestite that relies for comedy on the constant use of the F word, hah, f#####g hah. 'Miranda', a tall gawky unfunny twat that gets her laughs from constantly falling over, how hilarious. The only comedy show we love is 'Benidorm' the last series just sadly come to an end. It's not something you can tap into and appreciate, you have to have got to know the characters from the beginning, look out for early series replays, and regret the loss of Johnny Vegas and hi

  35. I think out of the newish stuff 'Outnumbered' and 'Not going out' are damn funny, and as far as American humour...I found 'Soap' some 20 odd years ago funny, and the 'Golden Girls' was very well written. Old wasn't always so good...Father Dear Father,On the Buses,George and Mildred,Terry and June spring to mind. Even Monty Python...although some sketches were hilarious, the rest was run of the mill college humour fit for teenagers. Out of all of them, one I can watch over and over is 'Ever Decreasing Circles' with Richard Briers. A man who could completely take over a character, and have you f

  38. Monty Pythons song, Always look on the bright side of life. It is not a joke, I would really like it played. My mothers dad was Irish and to me his funeral, was the best I have attended, he had fiddles, drums and everyone sang along to them, along with the telling the telling of jokes, about his life, it was a happy funeral and wake, even his wife joined in, that is the sort of funeral I want not a cold sad one.

  40. I think for me it would have to be Jimi Hendrix and 'Voodoo Child'. Glad to say that I grew into a 'Wild Child' when I became a pensioner! Considering my life, I've done everything backwards but at least when I enter the pearly gates, I'll feel well satisfied that I did everything I wanted to do - well almost everything ( !hand!) - whilst on Planet Earth.
