Hi everyone. I'm Julie, just came across this site and thought it would be interesting to join you all. I was born here and have lived here all my life. Lived in Radford, St Anns, and Aspley which is where I am now. Me thinks I'll be spending a lot of time looking at all your posts and probably won't get much house work done today.... Lol6 points

My eldest son is married to a Dutch girl and they have a 3 year old daughter . Mum has always spoken in Dutch to her at home and Dad always English. They are in the process of moving to Holland at the moment and it is amazing that the little one can now speak both languages fluently and can easily switch from one to the other depending on who she is speaking to .5 points

I learned French at school, and got a French penfriend when I was 12, we still write/email each other and I visited her a couple of times in my teens and then again in my early 20's, all of which has helped preserve the smattering of French which I still retain. I find it improves with practice though, particularly if we have French campers arriving on site. In the 80's I spent 14 months in Holland and had some language lessons, the problem I had over there was as soon as I tried to speak to the locals when shopping or in a restaurant, they would laugh and then speak to me in near perfect Eng4 points

One of the oddest things to hear is people conversing in Switzerland. I sat in a bar in Zurich once and overheard a group of 3 friends switching between German, French and English almost mid-sentence. It was as if they were all one language and I still have no idea why one would say something in German, the reply coming in French then the first person saying something else in English.3 points

PuttingI my thoughts on immigration aside,i do admire the foreigners that come here and learn English,i went to a sec.mod.school and didnt learn any foreign languages.,and over the years have tried to learn one or two without much success, but i found as long as you have a stab the host people give you respect for trying. Use of key words will mostly get you by,we should"nt be smug when foreigners make the effort,it cant be easy for em.i would love to be bi-lingual and most 2nd generation Asians are. Being on holiday in a different land is way differerent to li2 points

Forest's squad at the start of the season was very strong. I've heard that Davies' training regime was ridiculously touch and probably responsible for most of the injuries which took a lot of the players out. Having said that, the second team should have been strong enough to play better than they did against Derby, which was basically just, disgraceful. Davies' attitude towards the fans after the match on Saturday was shocking, and he seems like a different man from the one before. Fingers crossed Forest move forward from this and land a place in the play offs!2 points

'Walking round our local town I saw various prices £8.10 upwards then I came across a small shop in an arcade with the sign "Haircuts all day, £4.99" When I paid, seeing the fiver in my hand, he had a penny ready to give me change. I waved that away giving him £7.' Hey there, mick2me.....you robbed a bank or something? A 2 quid tip for a 5 quid job............2 points

I was a season ticket holder for twenty eight years, but have only been once since Paul Hart was sacked. I actually think Billy talked himself out of a job and into a big pay off.2 points

Can anyone explain why a manager is sacked because the team a`int winning then go out and appoint someone who has been sacked on numerous occasions from other clubs for exactly the same reason?2 points

Funnily enough, the best barber I've come across for me is Iranian. In fact, his father was a hostage at the Iranian Embassy during the siege and subsequent SAS operation.2 points

Brought up on Broadholme Street in New Lenton. House is now demolished but we still go back and wander round and look at the little dark corners where we stood snogging all those years ago.2 points

Nice post, MelissaJKelly. If Forest can just stay up there until the injured players are all back then I think a full strength side would get promotion.1 point

When I started this thread my initial post was: 'I've just heard that Billy Davies is to return to the City Ground. Light the fuse and stay well back..lol' Billy Davies has been given around eight million pounds for players, which is a huge amount for the Championship, but it was looking like he would't even get into the play-offs. Every pundit was saying that Forest had one of the strongest squads but when they started getting a few injuries the players that were coming in were found not to be good enough. Or were they good enough but just lacked any motivation from Davies. Davies was very1 point

Haha, catfan. "You can't beat a bit of Bully". Another thing that used to amuse me was when a chap, who lived on the 8th floor in a block of flats, would win a set of garden furniture.1 point

So it's a small world innit ?!?! His name rang a bell, although I'm not sure if he will know or remember me. (And obviously my real name isn't Cliff or Ton) Shawn grew up in Clifton. So did I. The back garden of the house where he lived backed onto the back garden of the house where I lived. My mum knew Shawn's mum (Marion). When I was young - less than 9 or 10 - there were times I was in Shawn's house when he was a baby, because I was with my mum who was visiting Shawn's mum. So he obviously wouldn't have really known me when he was about 2 and I was about 9. And as we all1 point

Railways are very dangerous places to work if you are in movements. This was brought home in 1992 when we lost a good friend just doing his job. Gary was a young fellow with a lovely wife and a little lad. He was good to work with. A good shunter. He pulled his weight and usually worked very safely. We were sad to see him go when he transferred to the Railway Research department across the main line near London Road, Derby. It was a good job for him. Two of them working together 8am til 4pm, preparing special research trains to go places all over the system. Occasionally there1 point

Just seen on the news that The Royal Bank of Scotland are to pay £576M pounds in bonuses after making billions in losses. Even though 80% is owned by the tax payer. What a deceitful, cheating bunch of incompetent barstewards.1 point
