  1. This was not on my wall, but this battered old mirror hung above my G-Parents Hearth In Chatsworth Avenue, Carlton. It was a Wedding Gift. When G-Ma passed away, it would have been thrown away. So I asked for it. I saw that mirror all through my childhood. It was and is,part of my past. When I look at it, I try to imagine the things this mirror has witnessed. I see my Dad and siblings growing up. In their Teens, his sisters putting on make up. Dad and his Bro's getting ready for a night on the Razzle...Blacks Head, Tavern, Chesterfield etc, I imagine the War Years. Dad coming and going in his

  2. Mick Twomey is an ordinary working class Nottingham lad, that came up with a terrific idea,'NOTTSTALGIA'. It has become a worldwide phenomenon, and has brought thousands of people together with a strong bond,we all come from Nottingham. The people of this city have been, hard working, industrious, warm hearted, generous, and always had a great sense of humour. At 2:59,US eastern time,I raise my afternoon cup of tea to you all,'Cheers miducks',and God bless you all.

  3. We old farts start to get a higher PSA reading, as we truck along the aging road. But a large spike would be a concern, take it easy and try not to stress, that only adds to the problem. I have been fighting Renal cancer for 10 years,it goes into recession for a couple of years, then back it comes. After 2 surgeries,Chemo',and radiation,I am still this side of the daisies.I kept my sense of humour, and a positive attitude to life.I still work every day and am not confined in anything I do. We are all capable of climbing mountains, just don't look down. PS,The old farts was for the boys no

Communities ,like meadows and st Anne's pre demolition, communities that like many of their time ,made up of war veterans and humane thinking human beings ,a time where people looked out for each other.however the city council at the time thought it a good idea to replace slums with ghettos.dispute this the good folk of nottingham have over the past 50 years help develop a city that has a lot going for it ,things like football ,ice skating ,rowing lake ,athletics, greyhound ,horse racing ,2excellent hospitals ,a excellent university, the list goes on and on ,but the main ingredient for this fant

  6. Several other industries contributed too, Nottingham Lace, various manufacturing companies like Beeston Boiler who boasted there isn't a school in the UK that isn't heated by our boilers or radiators. Dobsons, who made hydraulic roof supports for the mining industry and knitting frames for the clothes industry, then thousands that worked in the areas coal mines. Plaster and plasterboards from Gotham and East Leakes British Plaster and Boards Ltd. Soap companies, engineering companies. Nottingham had diversity, in the 50's and 60's a kid could leave school and walk into a trade apprenticeship

  7. People who made Nottingham what it is today can also include the planners, architects and designers of the 1950s and 1960s who inflicted the concrete block monstrosities on the city centre. They should be embarrassed at their legacy. There's a group of people employed by the Council/Corporation in the post-war years who decided that wholesale demolition of the city centre was needed (not just Drury Hill and Vic Station). It may not be something they should be proud of, but they were responsible for a lot of what makes Nottingham the city it is today. We are gradually getting rid of thei

  9. I remember this lady. She wore a blue overall, had dark hair and a swarthy complexion. A lady of very few words, rather serious looking. She always told me what beautiful curly hair I had (well you can see from the photo what it was like). I hated my hair (even more so when my mother stuck a large silky bow in it) but she thought it was something to be proud of. Wonder if she'd have been so proud the day I stuck my head in a box of sawdust...no, don't ask why! I must have thought it was a good idea at the time. My poor mother went bananas and gave me a lot of misery with a fine-toothed c

  18. Mam and Dad had a large picture of some Famous bridge in Amsterdam on one Wall above the fire. Directly opposite, there was a Giant Portrait of me and my Three Sisters taken for an Anniversary Present. We all were sporting the 1980s "Big Perm". The problem was...because we didn't get together very often, it was Party time the night before the Portrait was taken. You have never seen Four Gels so Hung Over. Not a good Idea! Mam loved it!

  23. Isn't it good that you have the backing from all your friends on Nottstalgia, Andy. Comments from people, like mudgie49, who've had the treatment and know what they're talking about must be very comforting for you. I wish you well. Also, I hope everything goes well for catfan who is seeing his doctor today regarding a PSA test.

  25. Hi Rog, I hope you watched BBC Breakfast TV this morning when the gorgeous Carol Kirkwood presented the weather forecast from the parking apron at Biggin Hill with the two Lancs and the Dak. Thank you main stream BBC for doing this, we had footage of them flying together as well, and a bit of a history lesson from some 'experts', it was a bloody change from the miserable death and destruction news we normally get on there. Yesterday the weather over here was dreadful, they clearly chose a different transit route down to Eastbourne, I envy you for having seen them, but at least my son and I ar

  33. I used to have 'Luckie Mucklebackit Forever!' inked on the back of my haversack at High Pavement (everyone started with a shiny new satchel in the first form but soon graduated to army-style haversacks). No-one knew what it meant. One of the Scottish 'Directors', I think it unlikely to have been seen at Victoria - I just picked the name at random for the fun of it. By the way, if anyone's wondering, Luckie Mucklebackit is the name of a character in the novels of Sir Walter Scott, much mined for locomotive names - but does anyone read them these days?
