  1. I have about 20 postcards of Nottingham scenes dating from about 100 years ago. I am having a bit of a clear out - any thoughts on who might be interested? Are there worth scanning and putting on line?

  3. I agree SWE2 but I grew up here, I am a proud Nottingham bloke and I will not let the selfish tossers at the crazy palace in Market Square ruin it. As far as I'm concerned, they do not and never will represent the true spirit of Nottingham people.

  4. Nottingham has been spoilt for me by the policies of Jon Collins and Crazy Jane ,WPL an unfair tax ,the tram that hardly anyone wants, and the destruction of many well loved Nottinham landmarks

  6. Tim Your reputation score on this site has gone up in one day from about 7 to 38 (so far). I don't think anyone has previously done anywhere near that increase, and I doubt it will ever be done again.

  8. Such an activity is not advocated on health and safety grounds - and is probably in breach of some byelaws. However, the following postcard - being a photograph takenon 14th July 1921 - shows that it was once common practice. I suspect the river has also been dredged in the intervening period.

  12. If you could go back to a certain time in your life, what would you change? (knowing what you know now!) I would go back to my teen years and not be so stroppy with my Dad because I now realise he was only looking out for me. I would also be nicer to some of the girls at school - those we sometimes made fun of. A Tardis would also enable you to relive the good times - what are the some of the significant moments in your life?

  20. Riddo (#32), it's normal for a new manager to bring in his own backroom staff. After what's been happening at Nottingham Forest I'd have thought a lot of people would be pleased to see them leave. It's such a shame it didn't work out with Pearce and his staff but it's results that count, not sentiment.

  22. Nottingham is about more than a tramline, television programme or the WPL. Nottingham is about the content of thousands of posts that's been posted on Nottstalgia by people who love the City Of Nottinghan. I agree with swe62, catfan and Bilbraborn that the Nottingham City Council have been irresponsible over many years but they can never remove the heart and soul of our great city. The article (#1) included the Nottingham nightlife, music scene, fashion, TV and film, the arts, accent, productivity, local legends, hotspots, rebels, pubs, sport and the castle and caves. These are the things that

  29. Behind that plastic of star garage were/are 2 large glass windows, the one on the left used to have cars for sale in it, outside those windows were 2 or 3 petrol pumps with long "arms" that swung out over the pavement, my mother told of a tale where she went to use the phone box in the blackout and fog during ww2 on opposite side of Nottingham Rd and finished up trying to make the call from one of the petrol pumps! I always took that story with a pinch of salt but since they have been turning the street lights off after midnight in Ratcliffe can well believe it I think originally it was called

  36. Mental stimulation ,and mobilisation are vital no matter how restricted it is our life line, example even limited mobilisation should be kept and if possible improved and aids mental stimulation. Old people with a alert minds should be placed with like minded conditions,I know that the elderly with severe dementia or the like do affect the well being of the elderly with mental capacity ,in that dementia can show itself in repepitive behavior that annoys the elderly struggling to cope with their own illnesses. Caring for dementia is a very specilised skill ,and we has a society should star

  37. The bill for someone with dementia, that has potential to live a few years, could give a tool to greedy relatives through euthanasia to get the full inheritance, dementia sufferers could potentially be manipulated, but if fully diognosed would lose capacity.

  38. About the only thing I disagree on a bit, Robbie, is the euthanasia bit. Don't want to swing this thread off on another divisive debate, I realize there are numerous opinions. My own position would be considered to be "Passive euthanasia." Ie. let nature take it's course. Don't spend a fortune on trying to keep me alive for one more miserable month. Main fear of active euthanasia is that some disinterested "doctor?" or greedy relative might decide its about time to get rid of the old dog before his time. After all there could be a lot of money / property involved here and that is a pow

  39. My mother sold her bungerlow and moved to be near my sister. She banked/stashed the money & my sister & brother in law bought a bungerlow for her. My mother pays rent for the bungerlow which pays the mortgage on it. So sister & brother in law own the property & not my mother. Of coarse there is still the question of my mothers cash.(she has been quite generous with it over the last few years ) At the moment my mother is in good(ish) health for her age(85)& hopefully has a few years in her yet.
