  1. Being the newbie I am to N.S. I couldn't work out how to reach out to Physical Perfection to tell him to get on with life as you never know what tomorrow will bring. Obviously at the moment time with my wife and family come ahead of time I would normally have spent on N.S. so that is really why I had missed this conversational thread. The outpouring (if that is the correct word) from you all has really surprised me, people we've never met actually feel for us - there is hope for humanity you lot! I thank you all from the bottom of my heart and please don't feel sorrry for us (I'm cer

  2. I love your positive outlook R.E.A.D. I believe that prognoses from doctors can be wrong (just look at Stephen Hawking) and that our mind, physical body and emotions often work together to keep us as healthy as possible. (Also - I believe - our spirit) I'm pleased to read that your wife is a strong lady and with you by her side doing all you can, I hope you'll keep enjoying your time together. You're so right.... enjoying the present is the best thing to do because who knows what tomorrow will bring... Thinking and praying for you both

  3. sorry it cost you your PSV license. Sounds like you were ready for a break anyway, though. Last time I was in Nottingham was 1997. We rented a car from a place on Bath Street. I think it may have been Hertz. We did o-k but I remember then complaining about the volume of traffic. We drove out of Bath street to the centre of town and then down Derby road to Stapleford. It felt funny driving on the left again as well. I was glad when we got to Stapleford. We did o-k after that. That was twenty years ago. Hard to believe and it must be even heavier now.

  7. Catfan The old post office building was originally the mechanised parcel sorting office, I worked there on it's construction, and many times after it opened. The place is literally full of blue asbestos (crysidilite sp.) very nasty stuff indeed, we were there when it was found to be carcegenic and cause mesothelioma. We were told to have regular chest xrays and if affected we would be covered, whatever that means in todays age. It was literally boxed in to seal it away, with hundreds of sheets of plywood, it was supposedly fireproofing for the steel structura

  8. Skill's open day 2017. A nice collection of coaches on display today. A brand new 72 seater Volvo coach ! I've seen double deckers with that capity. This one is done by fitting smaller seats in a 3x2 configuration, built especially for school trips. Silverdale Coaches owned by Skill's. Plus numerous other coaches owned by Skill's. National Express coach owned by Skill's used on contract run to London. Wheelchair lift room inside for wheelchair ! Relaxation area at the rear of the coach with two tables for passengers to

  10. I could be wrong. I was a bit unconventional. Added up all the shillings first and got something. Then added up the pennies divide by 12 and you've got a number to add to the pounds. The rest have to be shillings and pence. Doubt if today's generation even remembers REAL money. server is acting a bit funny today. Said it encountered some kind of error wouldn't let me back in for a while. I didn't think my arithmetic was that bad.

  16. I've watched every series of Line Of Duty, all really excellent stuff. You might be interested, last year's series 3 is still available on iplayer, but the first episode falls off tonight. The final episode was a real rivetting cliff-hanger, unlike the damp squib anti-climax of too many series on these days.. I see Peter Kay's brilliant 'Car Share' is back on again tomorrow.

  21. Finally got hold of someone at PTP , apparently Bernard Bielby passed away sometime ago but his photographic records were fortunately passed to the local studies department at Central library. PTP only digitize the ones they borrow from that place. The young feller at PTP said there may well be more of Talbot Street . Another visit to Nottingham is required, be interesting to see what is left of Central Fire Station..... Regards, Terry.

  22. I think it would be a good idea, cut him down after all nobody wants an unproductive teddy hanging about all day,put him in the museum and make him work for his bowl of porridge, lazy little sod,how long has he been tossing it off in the rafters?I should imagine too long,if all that fails to get him to earn his keep you could always use him as a cleaning rag to clean off your mowers,I know this might cause a bit of a stir but in these days of belt tightening you cannot afford to carry any dead weight, just my thoughts Rog

  23. I take the point about the museum, Plantfit, and I am considering cutting Teddy down from the shed rafters and hanging him in the museum - would that fit the bill, do you think? Facebook? That might also be worth a consideration....

  25. I've sure realized that the older I get the less I seem to know! I've lost count of the times when talking to folks I have to say, "I don't know." I'm think of shortening to just IDK. Might be quicker. I haven't noticed that anybody treats me differently, yet. Maybe I'm just too dense to notice or care. Went to a funeral yesterday. I find I am paying more attention to such things.

  26. I'm not really sure what 'maturity' is. At 68 I don't think I'll ever have all of the answers. Just a better set of questions. I do worry about anyone who thinks the answers are all obvious and simple... We all get older.. if we're lucky.. Whether we grow up is another matter.. I do quite like the fact that in the last few years I've noticed strangers treat me slightly differently.. They are strangers and don't know me. so they can only go on my appearance. I could tell myself they see an old bloke who should be humoured.. But I choose to b

  27. Been watching 'Line of Duty' First series I've watched. All very intriguing and entertaining. Quite absorbing. just trying to figure out what's going on. Totally different story.. but for some reason it reminds me of that ghost story with Nicole Kidman.. 'The Others'. It's got that same feel of unreality and half truth. Will be interesting to see the 'denouement'. Col

Well Compo, I believe you should release him after all he don't have the guts to plead for himself and why should he spend all day just hanging around when I could be put to more productive use like bringing happiness to a small child should one visit you museum of Tat,startup his own facebook account and see how many followers he gets, you could auction him off and make a donation to the dolls hospital (if it still exists) Rog

  33. I second everything that has previously been said. Cancer is a terrible illness that not only affects the person concerned but the whole family. The initial shock is being told and it takes time to take in. Make the most of the time you have together and enjoy each others company to the full, maybe remembering the funny and enjoyable things you did together. When my brother was terminally ill I remember when we were kids and spent our school holidays at our grandparents who lived by the sea. We went fishing in the local park and my brother was trying to catch a big stickleback and
