We have loads of old tat, and some quite sentimental stuff as well. Here is one of my favourites. While we were courting in the early/mid sixtys, we didn't have much money between us and what we did have went mainly on bus and train fares for the two and half years travelling to see each other before we wed. My hubbs spent what he could afford on a lovely cross with a star burst pattern on it for me, it was made of rolled or dipped gold (not sure of the difference)I wore it for our wedding. the chain has long gone and the gold has worn off all the edges of the cross, it is kept in my jewe

We had Max put to sleep a few years ago as he was very ill. Hes buried in our garden and Misty our dog now goes every evening with my husband to say goodnight. No matter how late it is when hes finished work he says " come on Misty lets go and see Max". Up she jumps and gets there before my husband. Faithful.

I try to get on when I can but I'm very busy these days. Still working but not quite so many hours. I am trying to do up the house which I inherited. Also doing a lot with the Bilborough Local History Society. And on top of all this I'm still Gerrinode!! So I tend to read myself to sleep in bed at night.

Great to see others like collecting books. I have a fairly good collection of Nottingham and Notts books including many by Douglas Whitworth, also stories by Alan Dance, Joy James and Joan Wallace - authors who set facts into stories. I also collect railway books, mainly about the railways around Nottinghamshire. I also have books about Medieval history. I am also trying to put together a collection of local authors for the benefit of my grandchildren. This is on top of my personal local history research which fills about 80 binders. Memories are great; but I often wonder if a memory is somehow just my imagination ... it's an age thing. When I married at the end of the '60s, we had the reception at home. My mum made the buffet. What I remember is going to the local baker and buying the cobs. This was a circular, flat product about 18 inches across, scored into a number of cobs. When I went on my 'voyage of discovery' Notts tram trip a few months ago, one place that the tram stopped at was 'Experian Way' in front a huge building with loads of desks and computers on view. Clearly a big, important company (with it's own tram stop etc !) But what the hell do they do ? As far as I can make out, they deal with your 'credit score' for when you want to get a loan (!) Apparently you have to pay them £12.99 a month and they will nurture (?) your credit score and make it more likely that you can borrow more. Did I get that right ? Sorry but I just can't keep away from Car Boot Sales and Jumble sales. Yesterday my little lady and myself hobbled along to a jumble sale at Nuthall Methodist Church. Found a little Lilliput Street sort of model of the Trip to Jerusalem. It was mine for 20p. As for sentimental. I still have all my dad's old joinery tools and his textbooks from college just after WW2.

Blue bags. I remember when I was younger and we used to go to see my grandparents in Barrow in Furness. We had to pass through many small villages and among them was a place that used to make these blue bags. Locals and us used to call this place The Blue Works and I cant remember where it was. Somewhere between the lakes and Barrow. Passing through the very narrow road everything was covered in this blue stuff, even the grass was blue. As kids we were fascinated by it and it seemed to be the highlight of the trip along with the Hoad in Ulveston on top of the hill.

I bought some flowers for Mrs. L onetime. The gal on the checkout asked, "Is it your wife's birthday?" I told her no. Before I could say anything else she asked. "What have you done?" BTW that's not the way it sounds. I do buy her flowers more than one time.

Only jesting Ann, you're fortunate to have a man who thinks to buy you flowers every week! Mine even struggles with birthday cards ......... the other year he gave me a card on my birthday which said 'Happy Anniversary' !! Shouldn't grumble though, he's ok really!

^^^ I too like Mary's father in laws reason for the name but believe its was the grand windows that gave it its name, they would have been something to behold when it was first built. Just read some sad post about us have to have our best friends put to sleep. When I was at work I myself lost my dog sadly hit by a car, any way I cried all day long, comment from my boss pull your self together. A few months after this my boss had a four legged friend about a year later she had to have it put to sleep. Sorry she said to me as now I know how you felt. No body no's how you feel till it happens to them.

Depressing thinking back to my 40th birthday party, although it was a fabulous evening when we took over an entire French restaurant to party with 60 close friends and family. It seems like yesterday but it's 28 years ago for heaven's sake. I hope the next 28 years don't fly by so quickly, I'll be 96 if I get that far !!

Same goes when listening to the 60's channel on XM, they'll say 'and this next one was a big hit in 1963...........' and I think nothing if it. But when they say, this is from 54 years ago, I go Whaaaaaaaaa?

What I find scary about that is the realisation that 1993 is 24 years ago. I'm still thinking of it as fairly recent; ie a few years ago.

Actually, I don't think "they" are all that keen on folk who pay their bills on time, especially credit cards. No interest charges that way!

I remember! She was really upset when told me that she had passed her quota for that day and had to refuse credit to a bloke from Bulwell called Benjamin.

It must have been your wife then Dave,it was in 1967 that i tried to buy a '3 piece suite' from cavendish woodhouse on credit when they had a store in Bulwell,it was the first time I tried for credit,and was refused,.......I was gutted........in the end Dad lent me the money and I went elsewhere. Stll remember that '3 piece' it was black with orange covers and matched the 'Lino',......it went when the ist wife did.......but I kept custody of the lino'......lol.
