  2. The same thing often applies with the photographs on food packaging; the picture on the packet always looks much better than the end result which sits on your plate.

  7. Well Mi Dears, I was just sat sittin' on the sofa, sowing, like a good Nottingham gel should be on a rainy day. You know the kind of sewing I mean, taking up, in , securing buttons etc, on the pile of 'Christmas present' clothes bought for us. Just waiting for the weather to keep me in to get it done! Being a bit short in the arms and legs department, most gifts to me have to be altered somewhat. Any way, I just looked up for a moment and look at the bloomin' weather Miducks, snot rainin' anymore, it's flippin' SNOWING. Aaaagh. Oh well, going out at 2pm with son, daughter and part

  10. In the 70s and 80s, and just off the top of my head the offices were: Walton House, St James Street (whole building - 11 floors) Market Square House, St James Street (1 floor) Newlands House, Mount Street (1 floor) 47 Upper Parliament Street (above the Post Office, 4 floors) There was also the Phoneshop and another office in the building on the opposite corner of the top end of St James St. As well, there were the exchanges, including Castle exchange on Broad Street, Crusader exchange on Thurland Street, Archer at the bottom of Huntingdon Street, and

  11. Great stuff. Just been thinking.. It could be funny to see some of those old Steve Reeves films too. 'Hercules Unchained' is the one which sticks in my mind, but there were others. I recall seeing some hogwash about Atlantis, where thy were making sort of solar powered death rays a couple of thousand years ago... They could be a handy source of clean energy nowadays...

  13. Bit close to reality by the sounds of it, Margie. I don't mean the meteorite per se. Rather, I mean a complete lack of transparency. I reached a point a while ago where I have given up on truth from the powers that be. Example: we are regaled every night with news about the terrifying spread of the flu across America. Emergency rooms overrun. Folks dying. etc etc. ad nauseum. A natural health website that I read said that where sample from 'flu victim are tested only 15% show positive for 'flu. That leads to at least two questions. 1. is this true or not?

  14. I couldn't sleep a couple of nights ago so got up and watched a film I'd recorded about aliens and cowboys. It was very strange but I watched it to the end because I wanted to see what happened! We are also watching the series 'Hard Sun' which is scary because if the 'powers that be' knew for certain that there was going to be a whole world catastrophe in a few years time (a huge meteorite ?) this is probably what would happen..... The masses wouldn't be told because it would lead to total anarchy and then, when the story was inevitably leaked, it would be just seen as one of the many

  17. I might add, my examiner was a police sergeant, my Instructor told me he'd just passed his sergeants exam and been promoted so make sure I use my mirrors and follow the driving code book to the letter, which made me more nervous!! He was happy, he passed me. I had to take a driving test in California, was about half an hour going around the streets near the DMV, (Department of Motor Vehicles) in Sacramento, no parallel parking, no emergency stops, no hill starts, I presumed it was just to make sure I could drive in traffic on the right side safely. Lost a couple of points on a right turn

  18. Dad took me out for a few lessons when I was 17, soon got bored when I turned 18, really learned to drive down BG's Marblaegis Mine, drove the Land Rovers, had to drive the Wagner scoop trams for maintenance, soon got the hang of those, drill rigs, pain in the butt as they are so long, manrider, was authorized to carry men, and also drove the tractors. Was about ten years later I had to get a license, that was when I migrated down under. I had a two hour lesson with a licensed driving instructor. When she put me in the drivers seat and we set off, she said "you can drive then" I said " I told

  19. Sorry you're not feeling well, Col. Perhaps you need to invest in a thick woolly hat to cover your ears, as well as a scarf when you venture out into the cold? Rest up and look after yourself..

  20. Chulla, perhaps with illustrations of flowers, they can be shown as perfect as the artist wants them to be, quite easily, leave a bit off here, add a bit, turn a petal the direction you want to imagine it in, but with real life it would hard to find a flower with every detail in perfection to photograph. I will look forward to seeing your collection of flower cards.

  21. Years ago I used to be good friends with an elderly man who had been a travelling showman. When he was a young man he took his driving test in an old diesel electric lorry that was used for transporting a ride and towing huge loads. This had a diesel powered generator which fed electric motors which actually moved it. These faded out of existence as clutch and mechanical drives improved. A similar principle to diesel electric trains. The examiner obviously didn't understand the type of vehicle he was in and at the end of the test congratulated my friend on a very smooth drive saying he never f

  24. Bridges School of Motoring...my next door neighbour, in Watnall. I was 18, 1975. Had 6 lessons, then off to Chalfont Drive for the test, and passed first time despite going through a red light. The examiner put his glasses on as I reversed round the corner and ended up in the middle of the road. I suppose I should add I was wearing tight jeans, low cut top and my lurve beads. Sometimes you just have to play the girly card!!!
