  1. That's the seediest thing I've seen on Nottstalgia for a long time. Only a former Marsden's manager could be turned on by things I've never dreamed of

  2. You’d get locked up for writing those words today. Freedom of speech is no longer our right. Whatever you say you will offend someone nowadays. Some people go out of their way to take offence.

  3. I feel short changed, no bathroom, no fridge, no central heating, outside toilet, no telly or phone, this was the early 70s for me as a kid in Brixton Road Radford, I never knew any kid who's parents owned their own house, I never knew you could even buy your own house, my workmates found it funny that I did not no that Marks & Spencer's sold food (I was 40 at the time) after someone brought some M&S biscuits in for her Birthday, I thought they only sold underwear.

  4. Not quite the same Ian. I was a 15 year old wet behind the ears appro, EMGAS in 1962 was like stepping back into Victorian times. There was even a clause in the indentures stating you 'you must get the permission from management to court a young lady. It was only enforced once as I remember, it was used to get rid of a bad guy. My very first day set the stall out, I arrived at 7-45 and knowing nothing I joined a queue at a foreman's window, when I got to see him at just after 8-00 the first question was "have you clocked in?" It was gone 8-05 by the time we got to the clock, it cost me 15 min

  5. nor the last. human nature is not a patch on Mother nature, sadly. Einstein was asked what weapons mankind would use for the third world war. His reply was "I do not know. But I know that world war four will be fought with bows and arrows" says a lot about the human race (and Einstein for that matter) Still, it's Good Friday tomorrow, so enjoy your Easter!

  11. When we first moved to Canada. There was no gov official waiting at the airport to escort you to your govt paid for apartment and give you your first check. Once through immigration you were on your own. Stay with a relative or pay for a hotel or sleep on a park bench. Your choice. You want money? Follow the newspaper ads or walk the streets 'til you found employment. Cause any legal trouble for the first five years other than a parking or speeding ticket and you were on your way home at your own expense. Nobody complained we all gorronweit. Now you can show up on a rowboat

  13. First thing to do. Put an immediate stop on immigration. Don't bother applying if you have no money or job lined up. No benefits of any kind until 10 years of contributing to UK economy. limit future immigration, one out then one in. Any illegal immigrant gets immediate deportation, no long distance immigrants crossing many countries to arrive here either. No NHS treatment, see ten year rule above.

  16. Jonab, yes there are laws and many parents have fallen foul of them, only a few weeks ago a man from Leicester was sentenced to prison for allowing his young son to wander of and drown in a lake. How these two slime balls managed to dodge the consequences of their actions I do not know, some how it seems you are not allowed to even criticize them. It's the little girl I feel sorry for, as to the parents a good kick in the crutch wouldn't go astray.

  17. Well it certainly ain't my fault ! I've ALWAYS strived for perfection in everything I've ever done, and I still abide by ethics dad lived by. All three of my girls have perfect manners, and are generous, hard working and caring. Yes, they've all made mistakes in their lives. Who hasn't ? There was only one guy who was totally perfect, and some bu66ers nailed him to a cross !

  18. I agree totally and don't like 21st century culture. As a child, I had to earn my pocket money because I was told I would never appreciate things or learn the value of money unless I did. I can see, as an adult, how true this is. My parents weren't wealthy but never bought anything unless they could afford to pay for it outright. They regarded credit as a slippery slope. It is the way of things that nothing carries on improving forever. Eventually, there's a downturn. Our generation has, in many ways, been fortunate but still had to work and save hard for wh

  19. It's the I,I,I, Me, Me, Me syndrome. I want EVERYTHING NOW, and F... anyone else. Also there is a distinct lack of manners, diplomacy, discretion, and self respect.

  20. I would say that most of the problem lies with the fact that generations born since ours have never had the experiences of doing without, getting a back hander from a teacher, or living without a phone. As a result they see all of the luxuries that we enjoy today as a right rather than a blessing. Thus they don't appreciate them and are always whining for more. Indulgent parents tend to give everything they want on the grounds that they deserve to have it better than we did. The first time they don't get something they want there is trouble.

  21. I have to agree with you Catfan how society has in attitudes has changed for the worse. But would I like to go back and live in the 50s, a big no. Cold houses ,ice on the insides of bedroom windows , lack of food and holes in my shoes not something I liked. What has happened to society I don't know, its something I dislike intensely. Our we as a generation, not as individuals responsible for it, in our struggle and efforts for improvements for all, have we allowed the next generation to go too far in what they see as rights, without any thought of responsibilities. In writing this I

  22. That was really interesting, Michael. Thanks for posting. A lot of memories there, and the comments were interesting too. We forget what good lives we actually have now. A hot shower every morning. No filling up and draining. Constant comfortable temps summer and winter. Refrigerators and ice makers. The list is endless. I'm glad that I grew up as this writer did though. It gives a great appreciation for what we have now.

  23. Interesting reading, as said before not everyone is interested in grammar. As long as they are understood that is what matters. Even the pope when he was elected said " If I make a mistake please correct me" but we love his mistakes as it makes him like us and an accent or dialect is more interesting. Who needs to be perfect? The dialect from this area is very difficult to understand and I keep having to tell people " sorry I don't understand Piemontese. " I' m just getting my brain around Sicilian although I can pronounce a few phrases such as " wheres the cat" and " what are we doi

It's just the same in the quarrying industry Mick, it seems that every other week you were put on some training course or other with young graduates fresh from university telling us old hands how to conduct ourselves in a quarry, I think after 43 years in the industry from finishing my apprenticeship through to site fitter then area fitter and into management I had seen or done it all, they should be listening to us, once had a "new manager "type bloke on site and we didn't have much gravel on stock but plenty of sand,he asked why are we still producing sand when we have enough, I told him that

  27. I said on another topic the other day. 'I don't want my standard of living diminishing by others greed', and I stand by that. Charity begins at home, and I deplore our own citizens doing it, never mind Eastern Europeans or people from certain African countries. Selfsh, uncaring....... Maybe I am, but I've worked damned hard to look after my own.

He picked up the old old one like it was a rag doll and it had taken two of us and a crowbar to get it over the back step! When I say big I mean fat big. Currys deliver from their Newark warehouse and I asked him if he lived in Newark. He actually came from Mansfield so that explained a lot!

  40. RE Troggs last post. In a way, it is their fault. What's wrong with always trying to better oneself and improve ones being. I don't mean the constant quest for greediness, superficial self adulation and self-centredness, which I'm afraid is most prevalent these days. Also, too many people strive to better themselves, solely by riding on the backs of others to their detriment.

  43. There was a review on the front of our paper this morning about 'summer movies' There was a picture of a 'family'. Silly looking mother A dad who is clearly a wimp, just from the photo it was obvious. The son looked like he'd just finished playing a shootemup video game and the slutty looking daughters were rolling their eyes. It would appear that the plot revolves around the parents trying to stop them having sex on graduation night. Gimme a break!,. That at in a nutshell is very much the root of the problem. I don't think I will be going to see it. Problem is, what does i

  44. Never been a Canon fan, I went from Nikon to Panasonic & was a bit wary at the time thinking that Panasonic just made radio cassette players ! however never looked back & never had any problem with any of them, my first being a LX2 which my lad still uses. I never bother taking 4K video due to the massive file sizes but 4K has a use for 4K stills which are very impressive in reality they are frames taken from a short 4K video at 30 FPS. One from your back yard, Albert Docks 2016. 4K grab.

Do use a UHS type memory card (pref Sandisk) if you mess about with 4K, & you will ! Bearing in mind that 4K memory files are massive. Enjoy your new toy. I just need to convince Mrs C we need a new TZ200 now !
