  1. This might help as well... I found it useful in the beginning to.....stare at the picture gently and go into a daze, try not to blink yet, keeping the stare but make your vision blur and the picture all merge into itself. At this stage you might just get the 3D effect appear. If not, just whisper Bo99er it and have a cake instead.

  2. There is another solution to the problem... If everybody logged in anonymously all the time, no-one would be able to see who anyone else was watching.

  5. That's something I've not come across for a very long time - 'ponch'. When I was young our washing machine comprised a 'copper' (actually a galvanised heated tub) in which we took turns to bash or ponch the clothes with the copper dome like thing on the end of a broom handle.

  7. I have a new scratter, PP. It consists of a length of tree trunk with cross hatchings carved into one end. I drilled through the other end and put a length of broom handle through to make a "Ponch" type apple crusher - works too!

  8. Many thanks Rob.L for the link to the 1938 map below. It confirms the location of the earlier pic. Gedling Lodge Farm. It also shows the unmade or proposed Somersby Road and others planned for the area. A great resource this map. paradiddle posted a pic some time ago of the first houses on Somersby, taken about 1948. That was a terrible road for many years and almost impossible for motor vehicles in anything other than dry weather. It must have been the 1960's before it was finally tarsealed, as we used to help cars up the top section in about 1960, in snowy winters. Ont

  10. Apparently, a 5 mile stretch of Radcliffe Road was the first tarmac road in the world. The then Notts County Surveyor, Edgar Hooley, perfected the mix and registered Tarmac in 1903. He sold out in 1905 and Tarmac Ltd came into existence.

  12. Me too! I was married there twice... (Both marriages failed.) The Methodist system was that the minister stayed normally for 4 years, but the church council could get an extension of a year, or get rid after 3 years. Rev Jones was the minister who lived on Hazel Grove and between him and Rev Widdowson was Rev J B Peet, who was just fantastic with the youth of the church. In all my time with cubs, scouts, senior scouts and then running the cubs at the church, only Rev Peet ever bothered to come down into the schoolroom to put in an appearance at any youth meeting. He had a great sense of

  13. As I recollect Margie the trucks went around a wheel as they were on a continual loop. It’s so long ago that I can’t remember the full details. I do recollect that my cousin, Peggy Burton, who lived at 4 Greys Rd. did keep a pony on Breckhill Fields during the summer months. In the winter it lived in stable at he back of a house on the street opposite the Methodist Chapel on the Plains. It used to pull a trap which took us at full pelt along the Plains towards the Travellers Rest and back! She sometimes collected me from Arno Vale on the pony and I went back for tea.

  15. I’m sure I read something about House of Fraser being turned into a Gym. Blimey, we’ve got enough of them around the city and suburbs but not sure how well they’re used ....... the majority of folk are still grossly overweight.

  18. Certainly agree with you on the blues stuff. In fact as far as I know even the term 'Rock and Roll' has connotations which are 'not necessarily' to do with music. A quick listen to 'Kitchen Man' by Bessie Smith is enlightening. Elmore James songs such as 'Shake Your Moneymaker' which were heard by wider audiences as a result of Jeremy Spencer's part in the original Fleetwood Mac. Countless other examples.

  28. I’ve been feeling my age a bit and so tired all the time. Might be my bypass grafts furring up I suppose! My perfect Christmas this year, I think, would be to walk down to my son’s place on Christmas morning, have an hour and a glass of whisky whilst the grandson opens his presents. Then on to my daughter’s to see my other grandson and granddaughter. An hour, and another glass with them, then back home. Cheese and onion sandwich for lunch with perhaps a bottle of beer. Afternoon maybe watching a couple of films (Netflix, not telly), or lying on the sofa with carols or choral music

  29. I've been wracking my brains all day to think of the place we went to in Grasse but with no luck. The visit was a day tour that our village organizes every so often ( not particularly to France but to various areas) we went to San Paul du Vence . It was years ago but I remember it was a very pretty area. I had some photos taken there but changing hosts for them over time I don't know where to look for them. Thanks for the information about the oranges.

  30. There's around 5 gallons of strawberry wine aging, probably put a bottle in the fridge for Christmas, and I have around five gallons of mulberry wine almost ready to rack off into flagons anytime now. There are still about 20 pounds of mulberries in the freezer and about 6 pounds of strawberries too.

  31. Woohoo. Can post image links again. Can anyone locate this for me? It looks to be like the view towards Gedling and possibly from the Mapperley Golf Course before it was extended to 18 holes? It is on the same film as the earlier 1960's pics.

  33. I can’t stand card games either and like jonab I can never remember what to do. We meet a couple in our local regularly and they always arrive before us and are sitting there playing cards when we arrive. Thank goodness the cards are packed away as soon as we turn up because I’d have to have a tantrum if I was expected to join in.

  34. I like Christmas time, but we don't go overboard on decorations, presents or extra food. I like it because of the carols by candlelight and the Nativity play at church, also the excitement of our youngest grandchildren. I also LOVE family 'get togethers' where we play various games and, each year, try to play a set of handbells I've got. There is always a lot of laughter, even from the teenage grandchildren who can forget about being 'cool' for one day. I hope they'll all remember it and carry on the traditions with their own families some day.

  35. Many years ago i had a good crop of parsnips. I had seen a recipe for parsnip and banana wine so I bought some spotty bananas and made a batch. It was ready in a few weeks. Two demi john's nice and clear. New years party and I put up a couple of bottles and jokingly labelled it 'Afrodizzyack' . The ladies really went for it! Whooooo..............

  36. It's about 25 years since my wife & I unexpectedly found ourselves members of 2 wine circles but have never regretted it due to the attached social life we've enjoyed. We soon joined in not only the making of the wine but entering in competitions with other local circles at their annual festivals taking our entries in on the Saturday morning, they were judges during the afternoon and then we returned in the evening for the dancing & presentation of trophies if successful! Oh dear, problems again with P.image ! the photo shows Bramcotes last festival 2 years ago with the entries re

  39. Bilbie Street when it was living. The road going across left-right is Shakespeare Street and going across the top is Goldsmith Street. On the left you can just see the edge of the old university buildings. And one of those amazing old three-wheeler Reliant vans.
