  2. DavidW, CliffTon and Enigma, I have noticed stuff on NWBW that I know you three have found and posted on Nottstalgia. That’s the problem with the internet though, somebody gets a subject, person or place in their head, has a bit of a google and links come up, including photos, that are then snatched and the wrong person gets the glory for the astonishing find. I have one or two treasures that I will never post on here as I want to keep them for myself and my family, not for the World to see, even though they would be of great interest locally.

  3. I have finally had a PIV unit installed in my loft (just couldn’t cope with the damp any more), had it done yesterday. One of the ladies from a club I go to had had one installed a while ago in her bungalow which was a help. Although I had done research (put a white coat on while doing it) it was better to speak to someone who had got one installed, she was able to answer my questions (I know the installer would have but they would have a vested interest) and gave me the phone number of her installer. I had contacted someone on line and by telephone (leaving a message) who advertised they woul

  4. I gave up looking at 'Way Back When' a while ago. Too much too often, with a lot of comments which don't really say anything, and which often repeat themselves because people don't look at earlier posts. And I've seen things I've posted in other places turn up on there. They must spend all day trawling the net for material.

  5. Brilliant RR. Don't they mek ya feel so proud. I hope your Lad has a great day celebrating his accomplishments, with you and the rest of his family and friends. We are off today for a celebratory dinner with our Daughter and our Fabbo Granddaughter who is 18 today. She wants us to take her to 'The Food Court' at the Merry Hill Centre Dudley, then Cosmos for another meal on Sunday with close family. The start of a new adventure next year for her when she begins her University life. She's a good gel, I know she will do well.

  6. Must admit that is annoying ......a recent example , earlier this week , was when a 1919 photo of a lady riding a motorised scooter was posted on NWBW . Its appeared on other sites so I knew the pic was taken in London but dozens of posters insisted it was taken in various streets of Nottingham , despite at least 3 different posters saying who it was and that it was a London photo . The admin just seem interested in volume of pictures posted , they ask for info on pics and then when you give answers rarely get a thanks .....they've moved on .

  7. In one way, I quite like seeing my stuff lifted and used in other places because it's almost like being famous. I've seen my things on various Facebook pages, but occasionally something will turn up in a more surprising place. Whenever I post something - anywhere - I always consider where it might also end up. When I looked there a few weeks ago, they were celebrating the fact they had 40,000 members. I know they don't all post every day, but that's a potential for a hell of a lot of repeated comments and gibberish. I'm not going to trawl through it.

  8. There's also been a spate of photos used without the photographers / owners permission on here over the last few years, which amounts to blatant plagiarism in some cases.

  9. This is exactly the same. Several new topics when existing ones exist, and a deluge of repeated quotes.

  10. Not been getting out much lately,, but today had cause to go to Netherfield,,whilst driving over there from Bulwell side,,it dawned on me 'not really been this side of Notts for a year or two. Going down Westdale lane and Carlton and Gedling areas was amazed at how much new housing as gone up in such a short time,,and the huge retail complex in Netherfield,, Finally got into old Netherfield and thats not changed much,, down Victoria road spotted the old Marsdens premises (now a security company) then nice to see the Coop still there,,(had a few lifters there

  13. Have your posts been removed or just caught up in the problems we are experiencing with the site's updated software??? I've not noticed any of the mods/Admins stating they have removed any posts for any reasons for a while. My guess is you're barking up the wrong tree.

  14. Got to agree that the site you were originally discussing 'owners' are way up their own posteriors ! I posted some of my old stuff on there only to be told that they were the only ones allowed to do so.......................... A couple of weeks later, lo and behold, he's lifting stuff off of my photobucket page and posting it as his own!.......... The first time he did it I pointed out that just an acknowledgement would be suffice, only to be ignored, he did it again (Even being that thick as to leave a direct link to my PB page open!!) I did get a thank you this time and so far he's not t

  24. I remember the Wheelhouse place at Mapperley Top; the name gets a lot of mentions in the old car dealers thread. https://nottstalgia.com/forums/search/?q=wheelhouse&type=forums_topic&item=7708

  26. I think the Wheelhouse you were referring to might have been Chick Wheelhouse the car dealer. He had a sales pitch and filling station on The Plains almost opposite the Gedling Miners' Welfare. He tended to specialise in sports cars and the more exotic. I used to fuel up my Healy Sprite there on my way home from work in the 60's and we talked cars. He later moved to Gorse Hill Garage further along the road near to Spring Lane where he had a Lotus dealership. I recollect a test drive there although I never actually bought a Lotus until I was 70! (my birthday present to myself). He then moved to

Then to finish my Nostalgic tour drove along Andover road Bestwood Estate..where i grew up,,....made me feel quite sad.......

  29. This sort of thing pi***s me off. I knew it was a scam but if this had been my dad when he was alive, who loved the internet, he would have thought it was genuine and done what this s**t was asking him to do and have lost a lot of money. That is why I posted it so people can be warned about it. People who do this want flogging in public. (sorry if this is not pc but it really pi***s me off.)

  43. This might help as well... I found it useful in the beginning to.....stare at the picture gently and go into a daze, try not to blink yet, keeping the stare but make your vision blur and the picture all merge into itself. At this stage you might just get the 3D effect appear. If not, just whisper Bo99er it and have a cake instead.
