I raced in the Harvey Hadden league for the first few seasons. Although I had won the league on Melbourne Park grass track I just did not have the speed when we moved to the hard track. OKish but not a winner. Got a pic of me racing there somewhere. More than likely that Rob L's dad took it.4 points

Back in the 1990s I took a holiday in the working island of Trinidad. Everywhere I went lads would lean out of their vehicle window and shout "Hey Whitey!" as they drove past. I wasn't offended and on each occasion I simply waved and shoute "Hi!" back to them and of course, most waved back. Can you imagine what would happen if I leaned out of a vehicle in UK and shouted "Hey Blackie!" at every coloured bloke I saw?4 points

Cracking day today,Beefsteak came over from Cheshire for a fast and loud RAF jet day, he was not dissapointed, plenty of Typhoons taking off and landing at RAF Coningsby and a solo display by a Spitfire, After lunch at the Abbey Lodge Kirkstead we went off to RAF Scampton where the Red Arrows were just finishing their display routine, great day great company, great weather Rog3 points

In the early 1960s my dad had one of these; this particular model and in this colour. My sister and myself sat in the two "seats" in the back, which were more like hammocks and were inward-facing.3 points

After having been driven at 70mph in a Bond Bug down University Boulevard my preference has been for four wheeled vehicles.....3 points

Recent away form would suggest Notts could win all their last three away games. I also think they can beat MK Dons because they (MK) will be playing to win. Against Grimsby we'll do well to get a draw. Lower half teams usually have gigantic defenders who Notts struggle to get past. So I reckon Notts will finish on 49 points which will see them safe by one point. I don't expect Yeovil to pick up more than two points so I think they're gone. Sol Campbell's Macclesfield are doing well but I think they're going to run out of steam. Call me an optimist if you like but after3 points

I met young Asian girl (18) some years ago (long story) who's father was a race relations officer. She told me they couldn't be racist because they were Asian. It has been instilled into her that only whites are racist. She was not allowed Caucasian friends and males where untouchable. His reasoning? He was defending their culture... now where have I heard that before...2 points

If you read everything on all of those instruction sheets, you'd become a paranoid wreck and never touch any medication again. I deliberately never bother looking at them...and immediately feel much better as a result.2 points

One of the lads at the Clifton church youth club had one. We waited until he was ready to drive off then picked the back end up so he went nowhere. Rotten sods that we were he had to promise a ride in it before we let him go.1 point

Fascinating program. The volume of data was truly stunning - millions of gigabytes on a lorry load of hard discs. And the atomic clock that was developed! Accurate to within 1 second over 10 million years!! Mind boggling. Old Albert will still be smiling....1 point

Never had a Rialto but I did once have a Reliant Scimitar. The body, being fibreglass didn’t rust. Everything else did! It was a quick car back then with a Ford 3 litre engine. I had it checked by an independent garage after six months from new and was told it wouldn’t pass an MOT in that condition!1 point

It's dahnright bleddy infuriating when 'er indoors has a Spring clean! I can't find owt anymore and when I ask she says: "OH THAT, I threw it out - it was no use anyway." Got my own back the other day though - she couldn't find a book that she'd shifted during her Spring clean. I eventually founnd it and was able to say "Be more careful what you do with things in future."1 point

Ha, ha, Mess. Forever the optimist. I thought Forest would beat Ipswich and Rotherham hands down, but no ! Playing the bottom teams at this stage of the season is a mine field. I actually hope Notts stay up, but it'll be a struggle.1 point

The Black Diamonds was the Bestwood Colliery Band , I believe it is mentioned on this Forum, if you use the search facility you should find references to it. Also if you go on Youtube you will find a few videos of them.1 point

Could be named in deference to Digby Lord Middleton of Wollaton Hall who sold property to the founder of the mine , Thomas Bayley ? "Lenton Abbey House was formerly the property of Lord Middleton but was sold c 1860 to a Mr Thomas Bayley along with a portion of Lord Middleton's Beeston estate. Bayley was born in 1813 and was a leather manufacturer at Lenton, Giltbrook and Newark. He was also a founder of Digby Colliery. On his death in 1874 he left it to his daughter"1 point

Hi Edgar, John Decara and I sat the same dinner table when we were at Rushcliffe. Like you I have not seen John for over 40 years which was approximately two years before I moved to Australia. Good luck, I hope you are able to locate him. Regards, Will 20171 point

When looking at these photos it brings it home to you how time passes so quickly. Old black and white photos of a derelict building and an overgrown railway track and you remember playing in that area when the trains were still running, also of the people who were about at that era and passed away years ago, or is it just me remembering the good old days.1 point

Here is a couple of photos of Bulwell Forest station, the first one is of the site of the old station with Rigleys Wagon works on the left. The second is of the site taken from Hucknall Road, I don't know where the photos came from so I cant credit them to the originator.1 point

I was given these two photo's by Ian 123 of some Penny Farthing (Ordinary cycle) racing around Harvey Hadden stadium in the early 1960's does anyone else know anything about the races Rog1 point

I can't really see why this thread is here. If someone wants to leave a position of authority on a forum it is of little concern to the rank and file membership, only to the boss. No need for big announcements in a new thread. This is made even more relevant by the statement:1 point

Don't forget Rog..i have those photos for you..our kid Pennyfarthing racing in the 60's. Harvey Hadden himself, was born in the Park in 1851..he ran the family hosiery firm J&S Hadden..then went to Canada ..making a fortune in land investments.1 point
