  1. Each to their own Phil. So long as they don’t try to push religion down my throat it doesn’t worry me. I was christened and went to church and Sunday School til I was about 7, I was married in a church and had my two kids christened as it was ‘the thing to do’ but since then I only go into a church to attend weddings and funerals. Anyway, better not carry on with this subject, the thread may get pulled!

  4. You put your finger on it Phil. I was not trying to be snotty in the posts above, just responding to what I see as blanket putdowns that serve no useful purposes but to increase animosity. Lord knows! this site's seen it's fair share of that in recent days. Problem as it seems to me is the general idea that it is not ok to discuss religion on this site. Fine! I don't like it, but I won't do it out of respect for others on the site who do not want it. All I ask is the same respect. Don't snipe at Christians and then hide behind the no religion to be talked about if they respond. It ai

  5. Maybe you've never met one! Vegan or true Christian. You should find one, and try talking to him seriously sometime. You might find he isn't as boring as you think. I don't mean swapping smart remarks, and putdowns. I'm talking real dialogue on substantive issues. Life and death. The nature of Eternity. Will I live beyond the grave? You know, nice light stuff. I'd be happy to do it here, but this is not the place. The thing that becomes boring is the constant putdowns that the nature of the medium doesn't allow a serious reply to. That seems a bit one sided.

  7. Don't worry Lizzie I don't have religion. That can be boring. I have faith, which isn't boring, I'm constantly learning. I'm not going to push it down your or anyone else's throat though and definitely not here on NS. What I was reacting to (above) is folks who will constantly make digs at the Christian faith and then retreat behind the nearest bush to yell, you can't push religion here, to avoid dealing constructively with a response. Raises me blood pressure it does and I can't afford that just now.

  8. A Reggae bus in Barbados And a Jinty bus in The Bahamas These little buses are great fun to ride on, very cheap too, less than 1 USD per journey. The driver has reggae music blaring, the passengers bop around and cling on for dear life as they take the corners at speed and stop without warning plus every bus is very crowded, I ended up on an unsuspecting man’s knee on one trip, not through choice you understand ...... I was thrown onto him

  10. Riding the Greyhound is a unique experience, I did it one time 5000 mile round trip between Edmonton and Atlanta. You meet a lot of 'interesting' people. Changed buses some ten times in various places including Chicago. It was an experience but once was enough. Incidentally I did it because the planes were grounded after 911. Took four days and nights. Just two planes and six hours to fly.

  11. That brings back memories of when I used to drive one back in the 60's. It seemed quite nippy then but I've just checked and the 848cc had a top speed of 75mph and a 0-60mph time of 29.7 secs. I would like to try one again just out of curiosity. The roadholding compared with other cars at the time was extraordinary. I get a hankering from time to time to have a car that I can tinker with. If I open the bonnets on our current cars there's absolutely nothing I can do except top up the screen wash. The last car I could work on was a 2002 Lotus Elise 111S which I bought myself as a 70th. birthday

  12. Some medications cause itching as well. Does your medication give you a leaflet to read? I read mine when I have an unexplained reaction. Yes Loppy it sometimes has that effect but as time passes so does the inconvenience. I was recommended it when I first discovered I had cancer in my colon and now have been taking it since2010. Arborscens is more effective and stronger that the normal aloe. I don't take it every day but when I do I only take it for 10 days and stop. After 3 days it really works well and clears your system. My colon had a big chunk taken away and it caused a l

  13. It's a shame that such places were closed and 'care in the community' came about. Whilst there were many inside those institutions who should have never been, there are still many unbalanced people, some with criminal leanings, caused by their mental condition, who would benefit society and themselves by being in a protected environment.

A little gem and an example of how councils can and should preserve the heritage of a town. If only Nottingham.......... Newark is a super place to visit

  17. Same with us. Married in the village church for convenience of location, not for religious reasons. Our children weren't christened. Nearly all of the funerals I go to now are secular. The local vicar looks after 7 churches but we never see him. He's called the Reverend Phil but it's not me! I don't think C of E religion will be around these parts for much longer.

  19. Jill I've just read this thread . What is your definition of a foodie? You could consider me a foodie but I don't consider myself one of them. I love food of all types, gourmet food, peasant food, Chinese, Indian etc the only things I don.'t eat are fast food particularly hamburgers and tripe. I have been involved with restaurants since 1970, working and cooking, I have enjoyed it. Now I am basically on my own , my husband is a chef and works lunch and dinner as does my son. My daughter is also a chef and works the same hours. So the only cooking I do is whatever I fancy be it something c

  22. It’s taken me a while to work out your photo CT but now I realise that it shows another part of Wollaton. My Great Grandparents lived at 16 May Avenue which is shown on this photo taken in 1936, they’d moved there in 1930 from their newsagents shop on Park Road, Lenton. By 1955 both Gt Grandparents had passed away and my widowed Granny moved into the house with her spinster sister (they bickered like an old married couple but were good company for each other). Their house was 6 from the far end of the cul-de-sac on the side facing the village and it was in the corner of the cricket fie

  23. I have been to Mexico twice, but not for many years. Most buses in rural areas seemed to be ex-US school buses at the time. I got on a bus one evening with friends. We worried, as he took our fares, that the driver seemed very young - maybe early teens at the most. We sat down and noticed that locals getting on the bus didn't seem even slightly perturbed. Eventually it came to departure time. The lad got out of the driver's seat and the real driver, a mature man, got on the bus and took his place. Phew!

  26. DJ I use aloe vera for many things even drinking it. My daughter when she was younger had problems with her skin and she was recommended e45 cream. She had to lather herself in it and take a warm bath and soak for 1/2 hour. She has never had any more problems. I have had a bout of itchy skin but I put it down to not drinking enough water to remain hydrated. I ordered a load of E45 products from Amazon.UK as we cant get it here. We can get it from Amazon.it but it costs twice as much so I ordered it from UK. I started using the cream and the itching subsided, then the care home where my mo

The first one looks a bit like a small Marcos, the stain on the floor in the second pic was there when he parked up,that one had the seams all smoothed out and it was lowered, I wasn't too sure about it to be fair, looked too odd,but he had spent loads of time and money on it,practically had to lay down in it to drive the thing Rog

  35. Funny that ...... I thought it was filmed at Wollaton. The pavilion in the programme certainly looked like Wollaton Cricket Club. My granny’s house backed onto that ground, she had a gate from her garden and we kids spent a lot of time playing on the field and I’ve got good memories of the annual village show. Do they still have one?

  36. Bunney's Bikes is now a very smart trendy London type bar/cafe called Cafe Curio which opened over the weekend, not sure if all beers where £5.50 a pint? but my round 3 pints £16.50, I had a 5.4% Beavertown Gamma Ray American pale ale, if I had stolen the very smart Beavertown branded pint glass it was served in, I would have got my money back on eBay, fetching good money!

  37. Yesterday was the first time in 44 years, well since being seated, that I never stood up when Forest scored, I would hope that Martin & Roy do the right thing & walk, hopefully yesterday. Quite glad there is only 2 home games left, renewed for next year, I do enjoy the complete day out with mates & bumping into youths I've not seen for a while, it's just the football that spoils it.

  43. How weird , I have the same condition . A few weeks ago had problems in the nether regions and took a few anti- biotics. A few days after (water works all ok now) had a 2 hour session of shivering just couldn't get warm , no appetite . The next night in bed , totally opposite ringing with sweat . Then the itching started , just on upper body . Like you , lathering in moisturiser helps a bit . I thought it some virus as there are odd things going about at the mo. Trying anti-histamines to see if they will help and might lather myself in pile cream next !

  45. Sorry to hear it, Col. I'm afraid I don't have any useful suggestions, but hoping you can get the better of it now you're back home. Just a passing thought, I've had success with the odd skin problem with a bit of Aloe Vera juice or cream. Just try it on a very small area first so it doesn't make the problem worse. Then assess the results. It's over the counter stuff and pretty mild. My initials may be DR but I'm no doctor.
