  1. Evening all, two weeks since the MRI Scan and 4 phone calls to the surgery "No results yet Mr Smith but keep calling it can take 8-10 weeks before we hear anything"! I've knocked off the codeine's and down to 4 paracetamols as the pains just a general ache around the hips unless I do something silly like putting in the bedding plants then it's a job getting out of bed next morning! Still no dancing, I just go for a chat whilst Barbara has learned to dance with lady partners, we have some very good friends who make sure we get out & about. Barbecue

  3. Blood taken, xray and ECG done. They were very quick no waiting and hanging around like I have done before but have to go back Friday to see anesthetist and following Wednesday for TAC .Thought they would have done it all together. Its a huge hospital, on the ground floor are all the areas for tests, xrays etc so fairly easy to follow because each corridor has a letter even if you have to go through another corridor in that letter corridor. Given me loads of papers to read and compile. They didn't know when the op would be but they book by weeks and phone Thursday but she thought it would be

  4. I really feel so sorry for the thousands who’ve bought tickets months ago for the cricket anywhere in the country, who’d have expected this month to be such a washout. We witnessed the queues trying to get off the M1 today en route to the Download Festival. There’s nothing I could think worse than camping in a muddy field this weekend. Not that I’d ever consider going to such an event, even in my youth, I value my comforts too much.

  6. On hols here in Florida number plate spotting: The local Florida plates are mostly white with green numbers/letters although you see the odd one with other colours, saw one that read '1A COP' I wonder what his/her job is? Lots of out of state & Canadian plates of every colour of the rainbow & just about every letter/number combination you can think of. My & wife I will be walking down the road & say "oh look, a Maine/New York/Ontario/Maryland etc plate!" The locals must think we're mad. My wife thinks the prettiest is the Arkensas light blue plate, John (Ayupmiducks) sent me

  9. Sorry you’ve not got any results yet Albert, that’s certainly far too long to wait. Good that you’re not taking so many painkillers too, expect they were making you feel like a zombie. Best wishes to you and hope we see you again soon.

  10. I think it’s quite the norm for cars in the USA to only have a plate on the back, although our US Nottstalgians are in a better position to confirm that. This is the registration plate we had on our car in Florida, when we sold the car we kept the plate and as we never bought another car over there we have still got it as the plate is registered to an owner, not the vehicle. The 11-14 sticker shows that we’d paid our dues in Nov 2014.

  11. There are quite a few like that in Nottingham. It helps to avoid detection by cameras. You'll see the actual plate inside the car resting on top of the dash. No doubt the owners will say that "It just fell off and I haven't had time to put it back yet" even though it will have been like that for several weeks.

  12. Arizona is quite nice. Having said that, we have, I think ar the last count, 55 plates to chose from. One regular plate and 54 specialized plates that support various charities, sports teams, associations etc.

  15. Compo, you could always send your puzzle to BBCs 'Repair Shop' at Weald and Downland museum. They seem to be able to fix owt !! They've repaired jigsaws before, not that I watch it you understand.

  16. Mrs PP worked at Pearsons in the 60's and confirms that the offices were a bit of a warren. She found it an interesting place to work but not as good as Home Breweries. She was a S/H typist- million words a second

  18. Obviously all the best to Nonna. As for the 'itch'. Nothing much has changed here for years. Mrs Col is an inveterate hoarder, which makes cleaning and hoovering difficult.. but why should it suddenly be a problem now? We are probably tidier now than ever. Will just have to see what the Doc says.

  19. That's a shame Compo. I know how frustrating it is to realise there is a piece missing. We are still doing 500 piece Jigsaws and on holiday in May we completed a Jigsaw only to find one missing. After moving the table leg we saw just peeping out from the skirting board a tiny piece of what looked like cardboard, Eureka,we must have knocked it off the table and kicked it out of view. PS Is there a title for people who do Jigsaws........................................Steady now.

  20. My lad bought me a 1000piece jigsaw for Father's day. I put it together and found that it was two pieces short! The bag it came in was factory sealed so I don't know what's happened to the missing pieces. I am aways very careflu not to lose bits so I'm wondering if someone at the factory is having a joke?

  24. Up early very early tomorrow morning. Pre recovery in Turin, I have to be there for 8 am. My son is taking me as he knows Turin fairly well and he knows where the hospital is. Looked on internet , it looks impressive. Its the top trauma centre in Italy. There are only 5 neuro surgeons who are capable of doing this new technique.. The hospital has an extremely good reputation. Hopefully I will find out the date of my recovery.

  25. As I see it, the removal of free TV licenses from all over 75s except those on Pension Credit, would amount to an effective £2.80 per week reduction in disposable income. For a single pensioner on the basic, that would amount to almost 2% reduction in income. (All based on current pension/license fee.) That's a day's food/heat/light per week for some. If they must cut the free Licenses, and they probably must thanks to Central Govt., I'd rather they set the bar a bit higher. The Pensioner's Bus/Tram (and in my case also Train/Ferry pass) is something that Govts will

  27. I had to go back to Russia quickly about three weeks ago. My wife's mother died. We could not make it back in time for her death, and my wife was hysterical in a hotel in Moscow when we found out that she had passed away. The deterioration was so sudden. I did like her, and recall with great fondness my dad talking with her, although my dad understood no Russian and she did not understand any English, but they would still talk and laugh. We did get to the funeral which was seriously odd. Open coffin and the funeral was actually outside under a gazebo in 30+ degrees o
