  1. I wonder if it is such a bad thing there are no longer any small independent pet shops. My vague memory from younger days is that they were often the kind of place where animals were treated like any other commodity on a shelf, and just stuck in small, unsuitable cages and inappropriate conditions. Similar to old zoos where you saw lions or bears in a space the size of a garden shed.

  8. Today’s sport on the telly has been fantastic, we had two TVs on constantly, plus the tv changers were flicking channels too. Cricket World Cup Final, Silverstone Grand Prix plus men’s Wimbledon Final. Just brilliant viewing. As for cricket being boring? It’s never been boring to me, I grew up with it.

  9. I know the point that was made some small Petshops were poor for pets , but it's sad that some shops that treated pets well have closed and provided a nice friendly personal service not a faceless large superstore.

  12. Just watched the men's singles tennis match. Brilliant !! with a capital B. What a marathon. First time I've seen a 12 all tie breaker in a final set. Even if you don't like tennis, you have to take your hat off to these two gladiators. Congratulations Novak, hard luck Roger.

  14. Yesterday, I jet washed Mrs Col's car, which was..as they say in these parts 'Ayvin' up'. There was moss growing around the number plates. She has never taken it to a car wash. I cleaned it inside last week and outside yesterday. She knows where the car wash is, and she knows where the vacuum cleaner is..... so she knows who will be sorting it next.. I also jet washed the drive and decided to finally tackle the problem with it... I laid it.. 56 3x2 concrete flags, the year after my MI. Took my time and it was fine until water started coming up from a retaining wall which k

  15. Indeed. I'm rather ambivalent to it . It seems that there is now nowhere safe from cyclists. Canal towpaths, pubic footpaths, woods, parks, pavements, pedestrianised shopping areas... Some even ride their bicycles on the roads..

  17. I knew Liverpool well back in the swinging 60's. My girlfriend had given up nursing and had embarked on a teacher training course at Kirkby Fields college in Liverpool. She occupied flats in various areas including Penny Lane, Anfield, Catherine St., and Huyton. I regularly went to the famous Philharmonic pub which was noted for the most magnificent gents' toilets in the land! The Liverpool people had a strong sense of humour and I presume it's still the same today. One of my memorable experiences was visiting the Anglican Cathedral which was still undergoing construction back then. It was an
