Well we set of for Mablethorpe, but afraid we didn't get far. We stopped at the new Observatory at Chapel and the sign told us to stay on the beach for 900 mtres , but it was impossible to push our cycles through the sand. We decided to get off and onto the roads, trying again further down the road at Chapel Six Marshes. Still no clear path, just more sand, so we decided to about turn, as the road was too dangerous for us to continue. A couple of close encounters put us off. We had a lovely day though riding around the lanes of Skegness. Tea and toasted Teacake outside a cafe at the back of Ch5 points

Cheeky. Lol. Will be cycling towards Mablethorpe today. We are interested to see if the route has been opened up along the sea front so we can stay off the roads, it can be a little bit dangerous on the bends with the speed some drivers reach. We haven't completed the run for a few years, it is approx 35miles, with only a few actually on the roads, will be interesting to see how far we get. So long as there are a few cafes on the way 'We will be happy'.4 points

must be the High Pavement curse. My right ventricle blocked with fatty tissue, led to the heart attack. Still here after 12 years, albeit with a "degraded" arterial wall. Medication, decent diet, good coffee and lots of fresh air courtesy of the bike. You often describe some stunning walks round your way, so, stick with it, and good luck.2 points

Sorry to read of your health problems Col, I hope all goes well for you. Also for Paul, and any one else going through worrying illnesses. Over the last few years I have and still are going through worrying times, and as Lizzie has said we will support you. To come onto NS and be able to talk about our health problems can be a great help, I know it has been for me at times. Best wishes for a good result for you all.xx2 points

I left school in 1970 and went to work in the Concept design office at Raleigh. It was a fantastic introduction to the grown up world of work and I loved it. One time in my life I really enjoyed going to work. My immediate boss was a lovely man, George Ellis. The department head was John Gordon and the overall design chief Allan Oakley, both very nice pleasant people. In fact all the staff in that office were great characters. George was an excellent draughtsman and a joy to work for. He was involved in a number of the iconic Raleigh designs of the 60’s and 70’s including the RSW, Raleigh 20 a1 point

All you need is a caff' with an old jukebox. One of my memories is late 50s with Paul Anka singing 'Dianna'. I'm so young and you're so old This my darlin' I've been told I don't care just what they say........... Where's the choir? All from my remarkable memory. Ooh needs Google?1 point

@oldPhil Hi Phil and thanks. I've been here 22 years since my heart attack and 'got away with' two small strokes since. One way I look at it is that my Dad only made 56, so any day over that is a bonus and I'm now rapidly approaching 71. My present symptoms.. such as they are, could actually be related to my ongoing heart condition.. which, apart from the direct Right Ventricle damage from the MI, seems to be slowly progressing Left Ventricular failure. Thing is.. I'm sort of resigned to that anyway. As my Mum's Doc famously said when she complained about developing Angina d1 point

trogg, No chance of getting past one of those, if there happens to be one. Hubbs favourite bakery of all time. Me, well, I suppose I'd have to sample something as well. Just to be sociable.1 point

Thanks oldphil. Just been decided to definitely do the route. At least we know there is a cafe at Anderby Creek if we start flagging. Not the people we once were!1 point

The cycle way has been opened up all the way to Sandilands. Lovely run, only real hazards are all the new cyclists on the hire bikes. Have fun1 point

It’s been quite a week for me, since by big birthday. Last Sunday we flew to Venice from Gatwick, so due to logistical issues we drove to Victoria Station in London, left the car in a ‘secure car-park’ and caught the Gatwick Express to the airport for a lunchtime flight. We were collected in proper James Bond style at the other end and transported to our hotel in a speedboat. The hotel was fabulous and we spent 3 nights there while we ‘did’ Venice in perfect weather. On Wednesday morning James Bond collected us and took us to the railway station where we boarded the Orient Express fo1 point

The crucial thing is that all the people with medical problems are still here posting (or their wives are doing it). As long as that continues, we're all right.1 point

The milk available here is nearly all that dreadful UHT stuff - which the natives seem to really appreciate. Fresh milk is available if you know where to look but it is mostly looked down upon as something inferior (and perhaps toxic?). I never take milk as it's so revolting (it has a "plastic" like flavour - which may be from the bottle it's in). I drink black tea and I take coffee black also but very occasionally, in a restaurant, say, will have a soupçon of cream (which they don't mess about with so much).1 point
