  2. The main (new) Police Station at end of MMW is apparently the only one in the area with a Front Desk now. St Ann’s Station was very quiet and eerie the other day, I couldn’t get in the door, had to pick up a phone outside in order to tell someone why I was there, finally an officer came and opened the door to let me in. It seemed very cold and dismal. It somehow doesn’t encourage the general public to get involved and approach the police about problems we encounter in today’s society.

  4. I worked in Police stations throughout the city spending time at Hucknall, Carlton, St Anns and about 12 years at the old Central nick, the one next to the fire station. Can’t understand why there is mention of excessively smelly toilets as this was something I never experienced. No more so than any other office shop etc.

  5. Many of the front counters have gone, it just used to encourage people to go in and report things. No counters, nothing to sort out.. Similar to supermarkets, a lot of them have scrapped Customer service desks, people used to go in and expect staff to sort out issues. No desk, nothing to sort out..

  6. I’ve managed to keep a few of those solar lights going, rather than binning them, by stripping them down and putting them back together properly. The weak point is the thin rubber seal between the glass and the base. Get that on right, and it stops water trickling down and rusting the battery connectors. Yes, I am a cheapskate!

  7. I certainly try to make do and mend, but there becomes a time when its just not practical to do so. Those lights are so cheap, I'm afraid renewal is the best option. When I had wooden garden furniture, I virtually rebuild the bleddy things out of pallets over the years. Impossible now that I've only got Rattan style stuff.

  8. Throw away society ....... wish someone would tell my husband that though, he’s forever attempting to repair things around the place, by the time he’s gone out to buy the special tools and materials required we could have bought new. Feel better soon young Albert, be good to see you again.

  9. Hi KJ, once took my lad from Nottingham to Skegness, because he were disappointed we weren't going to Blackpool, (I should have been driving an ambulance for the Spastics Society, but they cancelled). Parked up in Skeggy, bought some fish & chips sat on the front to eat em then came back home. Fly, all you'd be threatened with nowadays would be a rainbow coloured feather boa or powder puff. Always been led to believe, from a reliable source that Nottingham was the gun capitol and Brighton drugs supermarket.

  10. We did a round trip a week ago, of 134 miles, for a Cornish Pasty! Made by a girl from Cornwall, her shop was celebrating 1 year in business, which coincided with our 51st anniversary, so was treated to lunch by our daughter. Ir was worth the drive!

  11. Hi sorry for delay in replying, health's on the blink as well as the lights! Thanks Fly Chaddy's had the batteries so replaced two OK but the one shown is the one I particularly wanted to work. But no joy as the battery is inverted down that central tube with a very thin wire connecting to the terminal in the base, due to corrosion this seperated on unscrewing the 'board'. Just to rub things in one of the springs holding the glass dome to the base shot off down the garden on releasing it, so it's a 'in the bin' job. It does make you wonder though how these can be produced, put together (7 ti

  15. Park your car in Brighton ! Chuff that ! Last time I was there about 15 years ago, I was giving some good old Anglo Saxon verbals to a black guy who wanted to push in and nick a place I was heading for, and he pulled a gun on me ! His missus calmed him down thankfully.

  19. I'm pretty sure (but can't prove it for certain) that the bakery is this building with the chimney. The rectangular building behind it is still there - was Stephen Jenkins and now Nottm Office Equipment. May of the other buildings are still there, but have been modified and/or extended.
