  2. Finally getting my garden slabbed over, gardeners started last week when the rain would allow. Not sure about the colour of the slabs, they are a golden colour not my favourite but at least it will be tidier once it is done. The front is almost finished, must say they are doing a good job but then I am paying them enough. The driveway looks a bit like a builders yard at the moment, hopefully the skip will disappear this week as I have my dog groomer coming on Saturday! I have had the patio area slabs taken up, they didn’t seem to be laid properly, I was constantly having to weed between the

  3. If I have to be somewhere at a certain time, I’m always early. If people have a problem with time, it's usually because of lateness. I’m the opposite. I always overestimate how long it will take me to get to a particular place at a given time. I do the mental calculation in advance and think “it will take me about 20-25 minutes to get there”…and I arrive in 10 minutes. I always end up hanging around waiting for whatever is supposed to be happening. It doesn't annoy other people (as lateness does) but it annoys me.

  5. I have a number of watches from the one my parents bought me when I was 18 to a very pretty 1930s gold cocktail watch given to me by an old flame. I also have my parents' watches. I never wear any of them but usually know what the time is and I am always early for appointments because I have a horror of lateness. It is one of the things that annoys me intensely when people are late. I have a very basic mobile phone for emergencies. Virtually no one has the number. I don't want to be contactable at all times by all and sundry. Nothing irritates me more than people whose attention is

  6. I don't wear jewellery in general, but suppose I was always brought up with the idea that a good watch was important. My Grandad Jack always wore a good watch, though..as a Railway Signalman.. he was hardly wealthy. He also learned something about watch repairs and often fixed them for friends. He showed me a few simple things that could go wrong with 'mechanical' watches, though I no longer have the eyesight or steadyness of hand to do anything. When my Mum turned 21, he took her to a jewellers somewhere in Nottm and bought her a solid gold Accurist. She still wore it at least

  13. Sitting here on a warm night with the door open I can hear the waves breaking on the beach, the occasional car and rarely the sound of an emergency vehicle siren and very, very rarely the emergency helicopter air lifting some poor unfortunate to another hospital from ours. At the weekend and during school holidays we get the sound of the steam whistle from the tourist train as it chuffs along by the ocean.

  15. I have to agree with you DJ, I have two what I call Luxuries the first and most expensive is cars. I have just changed cars again, well the other was six months old. The most important one to me is spacious shower cubicle with a never ending supply of hot water and a thick warm fluffy towel. We are all different and have various likes and dislikes.

  16. Yes, I remember the house with the monkey tree on Churchfield. My Nan lived in Wordsworth Road after moving there after selling the Newsagents on Alfreton Road. Bensons. I used to visit my Nan at weekends and remember playing with Diane when I was about 6/7. She had a red tricycle and I was very envious as I only had a scooter..!! I visited Wealthalls shop regularly and used to go and chat to Mrs Wealthall who was mostly confined to the settee in the living room. It has been nice to read these memories from way way back..!!

  17. The only time I wear a watch is if I go anywhere special where I have to wear a shirt and tie, very rarely these days .Then I will wear a watch given to me by a neighbour some 30 years ago. She brought this for her husband when he sold his company and retired, sadly he died a week after retirement and I had to promise her I would wear it on special occasions and think of her and her husband, which I do. It is a gold wind up Accurist still in its original box purchased from F J Lees 28 Wheeler Gate Nottingham. Other than that I don't wear a watch and being retired who cares about time, if
