  1. Yesterday I bought a new log burner. The price was £990. When it came to paying, the shop owner charged me £950 and I thought nothing of it at the time but when I got home I thought - hang on a minute.........I bought a fire, a length of flue with an offest and the fire, for £950? Something's not right. So I phoned the shop and said I thought they might have undercharged me. They were grateful for me pointing this out and would I mind paying them an extra £40 (to make it up to the £990 for the fire) and I could have the flue pipe for free (should have been £60 on top of the fire price.). 3. SG so sorry to see you have lost Wolf, he sounded such a wonderful dog and obviously was happy with you. Kai will probably grieve for him but it shows just how much dogs have feelings. I hope you both come to terms with your loss and think of all the good days you all had together and continue to have Not exactly on the same theme but this afternoon my husband took the eldest dog ( a pinscher) out for a walk. Its wet and muddy but she needed to go. All the time they were out Lulu my tiny chihuahua cried and howled because she ( Misty) was no longer in the house. I know she c

  5. Oh SG, I’m so sorry to hear that Wolf has gone over the rainbow bridge. I can understand how devastated you are, those boys have been your best mates and great company for you as you adjust to your new surroundings. Don’t be sad and upset for too long, you still have a lovely dog to help you get through this. Many of us on here know exactly how you must be feeling right now, thinking of you. x

  7. Here we go. Alex Salmond is next in the media dock. Get lost Andrew, we've found someone else to grill. I sometimes think that if every male in the workplace who has done some of the things Salmond is alleged to have carried out were to be committed for trial, the criminal justice system would implode within five minutes.

  8. I found this photo in the book "Blowing off Steam" by Jack Bracken. Jack was a former fireman based on the Midland line at Mansfield loco. I can receommend the book if you can find a copy - it's full of great anecdotal stories of his exploits between 1941-1954, when he left the railway to start his own business. I wonder if there are any more photos of scrappings in action at Rigley's? Class Code O2/1 Designer Gresley Designation 2-8-0 Built 30/06/1921

  11. I feel for you, SG, and for Kai. The pain of losing a member of your family in this way is one of the worst there is. A terrible day you will never forget. You are both in my thoughts.

  13. SG. I feel so sad for you tonight. What exactly was wrong with your lovely Wolf? As Lizzie says, I hope Kai will help you as you come to terms with your loss ... I've lost 2 dogs and several cats over the years and can remember the pain. Thinking of you x

  14. This is one of the few occasions when I can offer condolences and actually understand. Losing a pet is, as you say, devastating and the reason I will never have another. You have my heartfelt sympathies SG.

  15. This is the beginning of the new Broad Marsh. The steelwork is on the site of what used to be the 'old' car park (built in 1970). On the left is the refurbished Redmayne & Todd building; the Castle is still wrapped up; and the crane on the right is demolishing part of the 'old' Shopping Centre.

  16. The royals are no worse...and no better...than anyone else. What sickens me is this constant trial by media, lurid front page headlines and incessant baying like a pack of hounds when they sense their quarry is down, only to lose interest when the next potential scandal crawls out of the gutter. Yellow journalism gone mad. I have no idea what Andrew has or has not done. I wasn't there at the time, nor am I remotely interested. I will say that the behaviour of the press/media and those who encourage them by subscribing to it only confirms my belief that society is fast disappearing
