  4. French bread has the reputation of remaining fresh for about five minutes after coming out of the oven. Something you can do to revive the freshness is to very quickly run the loaf/stick/roll under the tap and place in a hot oven for a few minutes. The bread will come out crisp crusted and nice and soft inside.

  5. That's a serious parental failing. They should have used the "When the ice cream van plays music it's to let you know they've run out of icecream" trick, they've have saved thousands on double glazing.

  6. Parents... Install double glazing so the kids can't hear the ice cream van so saving £££'s...

  7. # Waddo, the bread you're on about was "Take And Bake" . They had a problem of the part baked bread going mouldy, the baker soon overcame that problem. I used to like that bread, rather expensive for a half baked loaf though, so confined to Christmas and other holidays. Had I known how easy bread baking was, I'd have baked my own back then.

  8. My day was OK. As part of a garage clearout.. I took a pile of scrap metal down to the local 'Metal Recycling Centre'. (Formerly known as 'Jonesy's Scrapper'.) on the outskirts of 'Sentellins'. A couple of old car alternators, some used copper piping, radiator valves etc. An old car battery, several old aluminium cooking pans and some very classy brass bathroom taps and shower fittings my brother chucked out.. hardly used, after a burst pipe almost destroyed his house. £37.50. Not bad for a few minutes bagging up and a ten minute drive. I just cannot throw non ferrous stuff in

  10. It was, in fact, Henry Farmers, but they were wholly owned by Pearson Brothers and they were a department of the store which could be approached from Hurt’s Yard or via the main store.

  11. Was it Pearson's that used to have a large music section and sold Hammond and other organs? My Dad used to love going in there to browse and he eventually bought an organ of his own (second hand though, not from Pearsons). I remember Selectadisc too, I bought quite a few albums from there. Also I remember the man who worked in menswear at the Co Op. He had the mannerisms of Mr Humphries in Are You Being Served! Another shop I remember was the first supermarket to open at the far end of the Victoria Centre, I think it was called Scan (?). I had a Saturday job
