  1. I realize thet the CV virus is a very serious issue, but it seems like the media want to create a panic mode. Complications of the 'flu can be a very serious matter for us past our 'best before' date each year. We don't hear the media panicking about that. My attitude is that I shall carry on. If it gets me it's been nice knowing y'all, but I'm not gonna hide under the bed in fear. Glad your BP is ok Col. That can be a big concern. hope your blood tests come back ok.

  2. Screw caps on the top of car batteries. You unscrewed them (6 of them) and then dangled the rubber spout of a hydrometer in the hole to check the SG of the acid and then you pulled the spout out, to check the next cell, and it being rubber it flicked acid on yer paintwork and yer shirt which was later covered in little acid holes, there were 6 cells to do, and then you had to squint down the battery cell holes to see if plates were covered with electrolyte and if they were'nt you had to find that bottle of distilled water that you meant to fill up 3 months ago and when you found it, cussed as

  3. My father in law had a fall mid week. He hit his head and caused a momentary loss of consciousness and a nasty but small cut. He was at the QMC 11 hours, mainly waiting and waiting. He said it was like a war zone. Extremely busy with lots on trolleys. He made me smile though as he complained ‘they put me with a load of old folk’. He’s 85.

  4. I'm not panickimng, but I am being cautious. According to this from the BBC: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-51674743 ..I am in the most dangerous 'underlying issues' group, the second most dangerous age group and I'm male, which seems to be the worst sex for dying from this bug. I was planning to travel via bus and train to Liverpool next month, whereupon I was to meet an ex-colleague who has just retired. Next, we planned an extended catch up in several Liverpool pubs and a visit to the Cavern Club. The way things are going I'll likely postpone the who

  5. We recently returned from Asia. Every airport worker, every airline steward, most of the population (mostly because they ride mopeds) and a few tourists wore masks. 28 in our group and none of us wore one. So long as you are sensible and keep washing your hands, you'll be OK. I really do think the media are making folks panic.

  6. Hi Ian, Great to hear from you too! Still got guitars but spend most of my time writing novels nowadays, "Believe Me, the Lost Treasure of the Templars, " "The Blade, Ben McVeigh & the Templar Poignard," and soon to be published: "Running with Fynn McCool" and sequal: "To Hook a Gilded Bird".

  7. Well I got a bit wet but managed to stay warm. My pal and I caught some superb trout averaging 5lb. Must buy a new fishing coat. The relentless wind and rain did get the better of my current one. The wee hip flask came in useful though

  8. On the Korean flight to L.A. one person had a mask plus a full face perspex shield. Another had mask plus reflective ski goggles! Eee, the sights you see when you don't have your gun.

  9. I've never enjoyed large crowds for any reason. I like to go to one small supermarket that carries a lot of fresh and none GMO foods, and our little church, which tends to have a congregation of around fifty on an average. I don't ride public transit and I'm not planning on flying any time soon. So apart from personal cleanliness and a bit of vitamin C I don't think one can do much else.

  10. Of course the usual suspects will play on fears but I don't read newspapers and get most of my news from the BBC and from reputable online sources such as NHS, BMA etc. This disease is killing people, especially older people with underlying health issues. Also, because it is new, nobody has any immuniity.. which is presumably why it seems so easily transmissible. We can't even get any reliable figures on how many in the UK are killed by 'seasonal' flu each year, with the BMA and the ONS stats differing wildly, so it's not surprising that the stats for COVID-19 are so vague.

  19. Seeing that shot from the castle, looking toward Wilford power station suddenly reminded me when I actually drove my car up there to the castle entrance. It was when my son was alive and being disabled, we had an orange badge for him, (now a blue badge). I rang the castle and asked if there was any disabled parking, for a visit. I was politely told that when I wanted to visit , just let them know and they would open the gates at the side of the entrance. This I did and on arrival, I reported to the entrance. One of the keepers nipped out and opened the gates and showed me the route up to the ca

  21. Late1959/early 1960 Col, perhaps would have been pre-proto Jaycats, can't remember. Ivan Jay was in this band I think before Lee who joined us very shortly after. We had a regular turnover of members, about one every 3 weeks or so including me eventually. I could do rhythm or bass and doing a gig in the Radford youth club (which became Clements piano showroom) the then bass player took a turn on the stage upright piano to sing Cockran's 'Something Else', lending me his red Fender precision bass (deep joy) it being a feature of that song. He was known I believe as Max and he replaced me soon af
