  1. My wife and myself have not bought a single extra item. Nothing. We refuse to be drawn into the current idiocy. It may be a mistake we regret but at least our conscience is 100% clear. I am not the least bit worried about the current situation. I have some health issues and ‘chronic pain’, the by-product of an injury and woke up one day with the realisation that no amount of worry, stress, sulking, depression etc made a jot of difference to the situation. It will remain exactly the same. Common sense and follow advice. Concern yes but I won’t worry. Que Sera sera.

  2. Am in total dismay at the human race. It's becoming more like Mad Max at the moment. This me me society we have created cares only about themselves: I'm alright Jack, the rest of you can fornicate off!. Why the supermarkets haven't stopped a lot of this nonesense is beyond me. They have the power to prevent this bulk buying. People limited to when they can shop, are finding they are unable to purchase what they require. Someone working 12 hrs in the NHS isn't able to shop as there's nothing left. Personally I think some of this is dow

  4. Yesterday I finally finished re-wiring the lovely Jane. She now has three core 'Antique Bronze' flex and switch, plus a proper earth. I tried her with an E27 type white globe lamp but it's far too white and far too bright, so she'll have to wait for something more suited to her age and personality. I'm thinking one of the new 'antiquey' type bulbs with bronze/brown coloured envelopes.. or a nice globe type shade.. She'll have to wait till after CV though. 5. I now live in Daventry and my son works close to a small village a few miles from here. I'm 70 this year so with the new government advice I'm trying to stay in most of the time although I do exercise our two dogs daily on the nearby country park where I don't come in to contact with many people. My son has been picking up a few groceries from stores that have got stuff on his way home. Today he called me at lunchtime and asked what we needed as he was in the village Co-op. He managed to get a few items but not paracetamol so he went next door to the local pharmacy where the guy was sell

  6. I do think we should try keep all the Coronavirus treads in one place instead on keep starting new ones, Or should we keep starting new topics for each corona post? Or do we now post the same thing in both topics & all new topics? Bit like a virus?

  7. My wife visited the dentist for a check up yesterday. She had thought about cancelling but decided to go, our dentists have worn masks for quite some years. The receptionist remarked about half of appointments had been cancelled. My wife was waiting for some time as in between each patient, a cleaner, also masked, went in and disinfected the room.

  8. Prior to Roy's acquisition of the two double deckers, as I remember, he had 1 Bedford OB coach, on which we travelled to Bramcote 1957. (Maybe he had another for the Eastwood run?) He must have bought the double deckers ready for the 1958/59 school year. Out of the area, but on the way past Wollaton Park on Derby Road, there was a fair sized strip of subsidence in the road and there were a few banged heads, morning and night. Coming home to Mapperley, the drivers opted either for a run at Woodthorpe Drive - steep at the bottom, or Breck Hill, steep at the top. Only Roy himself see

  9. Apparently the test is: put it under the tap and if water will run through it a virus will get straight through it. A paper mask surely can't be anything more than a dust mask.

  10. It didn't all go smoothly with the Bulwell OMO allocations. The original plan was that Bulwell would get some of the older Fleetlines, whilst the deopt chairman of the TGWU was demanding an allocation of new Atlanteans, 586-611. There was much toing and froing between management and the TGWU, I know,as I heard one half of the many eveinng phone calls in the spring of '75, before the compromise was struck and the entire batch of Willowbrook bodied Fleetlines went to Bulwell depot

  11. Brew sorry to hear you're feeling a bit rough. It's probably only a problem connected with flying, being in hot and cold places. At the moment we are having really warm weather during the day and it gets cool in the evenings. Often I get up in a morning with a slight cough and sore throat . It passes quickly. Hope so anyway keep safe .

  14. I have had 3 deliveries today. Two of them left the parcel by the front door, knocked and retreated to the street and stood by the fence until I opened the door then took my name. The other handed it to me over the fence as I had seen him pull up, took my name and beat a hasty retreat. Glad they did it that way but did make me feel like I had the plague! Really hoping Boris closes schools in England I am really worried about a relative that is a teacher. Unfortunately words like stable door, horse and bolted do come to mind.

  15. That is correct but it won't show that the customer was present at the time of handover hence the customers feet. Presumably not customers face due to privacy laws or similar

  19. I had two deliveries today and I never got near the drivers, both placed on the ground and photos taken, it seems there may be an outbreak of common sense. The wife had rubber gloves on then wiped the packages and then washed the rubber gloves with soap and water before opening the packages. Overkill, maybe but better safe than sorry.

  20. Just delivered a bulk pack of bog rolls to a guy today. He opens the door before I got there trying to grab 'em off me. Got to take a photo of them at the customers feet now they are no longer allowed to use my HHT. He says "Oh aah I didn't believe it, they are not for me they are for my daughter." Yeahh right!

  21. Had to take our dog to the vets on Sunday as he was ‘out of sorts’. Put him up on the table and before she went near him she put a paper mask on ...... “because of the Coronavirus” Surely dogs aren’t carriers of the virus?

  22. I often wonder if the panic buyers stop to think that if this thing got as bad as it could (God forbid) All systems could break down. Where will the extra pack of bog rolls get them than?

  23. Just did the same thing Col. I had an appointment for Monday for a couple of minor fillings. I just told the receptionist I'd reschedule when this blows over a bit. She didn't seem at all surprised.

  24. I can't remember how long back I noticed Dentists first wearing masks, probably in the Aids era. My dentist(s) wear protective goggles/glasses and face masks throughout except at the very end when explaining any further treatment. The Dental assistant also wears a mask / goggles when using the wet vac to pick up lumps of teeth and the water. The hygienists that do the jetwashing wear a full face visor as well. And I'm always given the option of a pair of protective glasses or keep my own glasses on. I always have the protective ones otherwise my glasses e

  26. nonnaB, have you noticed the fragrance given off by lemon flowers? It is amazing. Orange flowers have a spectacular scent - which is extracted and used commercially but lemon is distinctly different. Have a sniff!.

  27. Assuming it’s true 750ml Dettol £19.99 500ml £14.99. We need ration books. A few years ago I walked into a certain shop in Sneinton. The 2 guys behind the counter had the charity donation container, one of those tube ones, on the counter shaking and poking with a knife. They clearly hadn’t noticed me walk-in and looked very furtive. Went on about needing some change for the till and would put it back. I used to call in for samosas. I told them it was a disgrace, illegal and have never been back there again. People will always take advantage of adversity. Old as time itself. Spivs, bl

  30. There were several Starfish (decoy fires) sites around Nottingham - the best known was called the Cropwell Butler site, though some distance away. There was also one at Diseworth (now under M1Jn24), and also just outside Cotgrave, which earnt its keep, judging by the craters in the woodland there! The Starfish sites were very different from the decoy trucks, etc (some of which were made by Nottingham’s rag trade!) in that they were live fires, lit after the first wave of German pathfinder bombers had bombed their target, and intended to deceive the Luftwaffe main force into bombing
