  1. We went up into Derbyshire not intending to go near anybody but decided to call into Chatsworth Farm shop hoping they would have some items in there but not a lot of people , pulled into the car park and quite a few cars there. Dubious about going in but saw sanitiser outside and instructions to use it before entering, also a row of sinks with liquid soap running water and paper towels for when you left. Also a lady sanitising all trollies and baskets after use. Went in and civilised people only in there, all kept their distance some with gloves on and no looting. As for goods loads of every t

  2. Thought about our Loppy this morning. Went into the village to get a few odds and sods. There's a little market, of sorts, on Fridays: fresh fruit and vegetables and fish and meat stalls. The queue at the meat van was terrific, not that I'm interested being a vegetarian, but I spotted a young beagle on a lead with its owner quite near the end of the queue. As I went in and out of various shops, I noticed the Beagle edging nearer the front, painfully slowly. He was getting bored. As I returned to the car after my final shop, the Beagle was peeing up the trouser leg of

  3. What a beautiful day today, sun is shining and forecast to be dry all day ,spring is here flowers have started colourising our world most important I have woke up to enjoy it. Despite what is going on in this mad world there are many things to enjoy, I am still in isolation and taking precautions but I am determined to be happy and do whatever I can. I plan to drive up into Derbyshire and wander around and see this great countryside of ours , very few people will be there if any, they will all be at supermarkets hoping to stockpile any thing they can. Keep smiling all of you and stay safe

  5. Back to Albert for just a minute. I've met Albert several times at Nottstalgia events over the years, and if someone showed me that photo without any clues I'd definitely recognise him even 70 years ago. He's changed a bit, but not too much.

  6. Must be difficult for you Ben knowing your love of chatting to people, I did say all people not just females. Staying in the house is difficult that's why I am going to Derbyshire, I am taking a flask and a picnic so I don't have to come in contact with people I am still concerned over the wifes health. She is pleasantly surprised over my concern for her, and I thought I had earned a few brownie points until I said well if anything happened to you I would have to do my own cooking. So its back in the spare bedroom , length of sentence unknown.

  9. @Brew enjoy your triip to Derbyshire, too. It's a bit too far for us to attempt anything like that just for a day, so I'll just gaze out of the window at our daffodils, primulae and all the fresh shoots. LoveLy and sunny here. Felt sad for the children in the village going for their last day at school for a while. Some of the year 6 have been crying because it will probably be their last day at Primary School before moving on to Secondary. Apparently, they aren't having the usual goodbye assembly in the hall and they are feeling they're missing out. I do feel so sad for all

  10. I've been so busy decorating and spring cleaning that I haven't really noticed what's going on outside. Took my coffee into the garden yesterday and listened to the birdsong. Very wonderful to hear it again after the winter. Mrs Blackbird was very busy and I watched both her and Jenny Wren who was busy hopping about in the trachycarpus. They are oblivious to the coronavirus or, if they aren't, they are possibly cogitating on the havoc homo sapiens has wrought on the natural world and that what goes round comes round. They'd be laughing up their sleeves, if they had any.

  12. Different sides of human nature: Don’t know how true it is but I have been told that an elderly lady managed to get some eggs in the supermarket, went to get something else and someone took them out her basket. Words fail me. When I was at the supermarket yesterday I saw an elderly lady and someone younger go for a jar of coffee (The last one). Younger person got it then turned to the elderly lady and insisted she take it. Felt she should have got a standing ovation. My hairdresser is opening up on Monday (her day off) so a relative and I can get our hair done with no one else i

  13. Letsavago : we find ourselves in the same situation. By rationing, we can eke what we have. My plan is hopefully, in a week or so, the idiotic imbeciles that masquerade as members of the human race will have locked themselves into whatever bolt hole they find themselves in, gleefully rejoicing in their selfish behaviour bu££ering those who think about others. Sadly, some people would delight in what they've done, thinking how clever they are. What goes around comes around. Like you, we have a conscience, if we had spare items, we would share. Could still do that if we come across s

  17. Only took the one photo as it was very windy and cold, wish we could have stayed longer but wife not too strong, but just to get out of the house was a great tonic. Eldest son phoned and when told where we was I had a reet good B*****king , I reminded him I was the father and he was the son, it served no purpose. But I hope to go out again in a few weeks but not getting out of the car.

  20. They are the closest to a cat that I have come across, Jill. I truly believe they have a real sense of humour, though. Jake will just stare at you then make a lunge at anything he can grab just to make you chase him while yelling, "Drop it, you rotten dog," while your BP goes off the charts. When he's not doing that he likes to sit on the window seat and yell abuse at anybody who dares to walk by.

  21. We are learning from China or trying to seeing as that their numbers of new cases are down to zero for the second day. But knowing that ( when this virus started) that we thought same as everybody else. "China is a long way from us it'll blow over and then after all we won't get it". How wrong we were, even after the virus started in Lombardia we were sorry but although it's not that far from us we thought it won't spread here ( We are just outside Asti) wrong once again. In Piemonte there were only 3 cases which after a while was reduced to 1 as two turned out to be negative. Everyone seems t

  22. He was a lovely dog, Loppy. Only young. He was clearly looking for some fuss from those in the queue and no one was taking any notice of him so, to begin with, he started winding himself and his lead round people's legs! Each time I walked past, I could see the naughtiness increasing in his expression. It's the same with cats, when you know them well, you can almost mind read what sort of mischief they're planning. I'm sure Jake would never pee on anyone's leg. I was so amused by the little lad this morning that I almost bought him a string of sausages as a reward for bad behaviou

  23. You nearly made me spill my coffee Jill. That really tickled me. Tried to read it to Mrs. L. I had a hard time from laughing, my eyes were watering. You've got to own a Beagle to understand how that could be. They are nice, but he is the most independant, stubborn, ornery dog I've ever owned.

  25. Thanks nonna,,,because i breathe thru the hole in my neck (stoma) i think i'm in more danger,,the 'Air' goes directly to my lungs,,,i wear an Air humidifier, which also enables speech. I've been amazed that so many Medical professional staff ask me to breathe in thru Nose or Mouth,,,.....so to wear a MASK for me would be a waste of time. My sense of 'Smell' has all but gone,,,i sneeze silently,,my laughter is also silent,,and i can't blow Balloons out...lol EDIT............Blow Balloons UP..........and Candles OUT...........edit ..2,..

  26. This was on tv the other afternoon. They were interviewing actors , authors, scientist and all manner of intelligent people and they all said that it was fantastic to hear and see the birds and some wild life returning. All these people were interviewed standing on their balconies 6,7,8 stories up and talking on their phones to cameramen on ground. Wonderful communication, no contact.

  27. Margie, you could always go Fenland mountain climbing, or stay in the foothills I understand there are some good ski slopes near St. Neots. (Look close and you'll see tongue firmly in cheek). We've been in house arrest for a week now, down here in "Ghost town".

Got to admit starting to change my mind,,ref getting out and wearing a mask,,, Only been out once this week.........it was to the Idlewell shopping centre in Sutton....Not been before,,,not very busy but seemed a nice place.Found a Greggs'' type place,,nice Espresso and Meat pie,,however started to worry a bit for the first time,,,group of people in Wheelchairs coughing all over the place,,,so went into the Mall to drink and eat,,but felt uncomfortable......... ,,didnt see anyone wearing a Mask but think its only a matter of time before its in common use,,,even in places like Sutton and M

  31. Maybe worth remembering a Ciggy could also kill you... Don't know how I finally managed to stop.. but have never regretted it or been tempted back. Be strong Glasshopper!! Mrs Col and I discussed shopping Thurs morning. We're not short of food except for stuff like fresh veg, bread, eggs etc. Also I could do with a few non-food items but I'm not losing sleep over them. I'm not coming at this from a 'panic buying' point of view. I'm far more interested in staying away from people if I do need a few bits. I favoured a tentative expedition to one of the

  32. Perhaps they have everything stored in a warehouse somewhere so it can be sold at ridiculous prices later? My son wanted some frozen food this morning and he said the freezer cabinets were empty. These greedy stockpilers must have a lot of chest freezers somewhere as well! He is working as a delivery driver at the moment and reckons that online slots are being abused by greedy customers ordering several 'baskets' but on different days/times.

  35. I have just been out to go to the chemist to pick up my prescription and have a wander round the shops to admire the empty shelves. Got milk but bread is rarer than rocking horse teeth, tea and coffee about the same. There wasn’t any bird stuff for my bird feeders either strangely, unless someone has recipes to use it? I wore my mask for the first time, felt a bit silly, but then there was someone else in the supermarket with one as well. Gave each other a thumbs up and queued together at checkout. I did get some strange looks, but better safe than sorry and I have read that there are some
