  1. I was hanging my sheets out on the line this morning (taking advantage of the beautiful sunshine to dry them) My next door neighbours were having family fun in their garden, they have three children, and all the family were playing on the three 'Space Hoppers' that we gave to them when our G/daughter grew out of them, she will be 20 in Dec, so the hoppers have lasted well. I heard a little voice calling Chris (ME) through the hedge, and I was presented with a lovely painted rainbow with the message 'Stay Safe'.that had been made especially for us cos we are old. Aaaaah! It is now

  4. CT this is our motto. A rainbow with the phrase in Italian Stay home and it'll be alright. Children and adults have put them everywhere. It adds a bit of hope I think.

  5. Yesterday morning I was out walking Kai. It was a beautiful day, birds singing, loads of rabbits frolicking in the sun and I saw 2 male pheasants strutting their stuff across a field. It was so lovely, made me forget the madness that is going on for a bit. Then I got a txt on my phone from the government telling me not to go out bringing me back to reality with a bump. Today I have contacted friends in Doncaster to see how they all are (a couple of them are in the ‘high risk’ category). They had escaped it initially but it is starting to ramp up there now, 3 deaths at the local hospital. Th

  6. As we are all now grounded I decided that it is time to bring out the vinyl discs. A few years ago my husband bought a new turn table and it is linked into the sound system. Rolling Stones disc Aftermath sounds so much better on this than it did on my old record player in 1966! Then I found the Kenny Ball album with Mozart on, the track on the disc I played for a 6th form assembly at BGS! Mr Williams got a surprise that day and in my reference he said I had an interesting sense of humour! Lots of music today, interesting things on the laptop and a good glass of whisky to kill any germs! Just

  7. One of our sons is planning to fetch his eldest boy from Newcastle where he's at Uni. There were 5 of them in the student house but his housemates have all gone home now so he's stuck there by himself... and definitely not very happy. I expect our son may be stopped a few times on the A1 to explain where he's going.. hope he keeps his cool.

  8. @mercurydancer I agree he looks worn out. I've never voted Conservative and never much liked Boris, but I think he's done well as a front man during this crisis.

  9. Just watched PM question time and Boris does not look well. Clearly struggling. I do admire him for his resoluteness.

  10. As more of us appear to be going into Isolation I thought it would be helpful to start this topic so we can all pass on tips or help in isolation and keep it all in one place, rather than mixing up in other topics. If the moderators think it unadvisable please delete. I have tried to keep in the house for the last two weeks but have failed due to the need of a change of scenery , but kept away from people. As for shopping I have been lucky my youngest has been carrying out this task, due to the shortages in shops this is becoming harder. So we are considering home delivery, a quick look

  11. We had a family quiz earlier. Daughter, son, in-laws and 3 grandkids. Lots of wine, lots of laughter and banter. All courtesy of Zoom conferencing on our ipads. Thank God for technology - and alcohol!!

  12. I've just been out for a walkabout (not too close to anyone) and the biggest problem I encountered was that it was much warmer than I expected. Overdressed for the occasion.

  13. That's true CT, this Covid is having all sorts of unexpected effects. At the moment I,m desperately struggling with an almost overwhelming desire to go outside and jetwash the patio!

  16. Our dog always has two walks a day. My husband always takes him out first thing in the morning because I’m not ready to face the World that early. I often take the dog a quick walk around the block before bed-time, but last night we broke the ‘one walk a day’ isolation rules ........ there was a Police helicopter hovering nearby for quite some time, it made me a bit edgy thinking there was a criminal on the loose! We both went out around the eerily quiet streets ....... and got home safely! It’s amazing how quiet everywhere is, such beautiful weather too.

  17. We came out with new measures of working just yesterday keep two metres away from each other while 120 of us all stood in a huddle listening to the union rep & manager, think they where holding hands? No more van sharing & now you have to wash yours hands, but no soap or toilet paper left or replaced because the cleaner self isolating, out on foot for 16 miles & 5 hours with any places you used piss now shut, bring out your dead

  19. That's what I meant by wooly and ill thought out, there are just too many holes in the SD idea. Tubes still running, trains still running the Channel Tunnel is still open!

  20. I'd agree with Brew that it is conceivable that something 'escaped' from some facility. That might, for instance explain the rather odd response by the Chinese Authorities to the 'whistle blowing' of the poor Opthalmologist who died. Favourite for me though is the 'species jumping' which is known to occur when species which normally wouldn't be in close proximity, are crowded together in 'wet' markets. I believe this was identified as the cause of SARS, whereas MERS has been traced to Camels. I've not enquired of my local pharmacy yet and my next repeat is n

  22. In our neighbourhood there are dozens of houses with teddy bears in the windows, us included, we’ve got 3 including 70 year old Ted. A neighbour with young children has paintings of rainbows as well. This gives families something to search for when out for their daily constitution. It’s a lovely idea.

  23. This is only hypothetical. I appreciate it's difficult arranging a home delivery however nothing says you can't order from multiple sources. Timed deliveries would end, they're too restrictive and customer are not going to be out so will not miss the delivery. Homebargains/ Poundland would be like any other food shop - closed and delivery of food only. Shops, like your chemist, who do not offer deliveries would be made to do so, or close. No vans? with the travel restrictions in place there will be hundreds of taxis doing nothing. Hard line her

  24. I wish that the guidelines about self distancing could be enforced, but obviously that would be very difficult to do. It would be easier in a way to enforce a lockdown and maybe it will come to that soon.... it's a horrible thought but it's the same for everyone. We really need to slow down the spread of this CV by whatever means!!
