  2. Interesting what you say about CT scan attire Nonna, I’ve had quite a lot over the years but not for about 3 years and I’ve always had to wear a hospital gown. This next time I’ve got to arrive early, sit in the car park and drink half a litre of tap water before going in the hospital. I’m just relieved that I’m getting a scan as I’ve had a problem for months and the GP told me the other week that she can only send me for a scan if there is evidence of cancer. Some might say I’m jumping the system but in my mind I’m saving the NHS money by paying for these blood tests and scan.

  3. At least you won’t need to push her around Gem. Does your mother still trot around? Maybe you should have ordered a tandem motorised wheelchair and send them off on their own!

  4. I think I should start a topic called..awkward elderly relatives. For three weeks I have been looking for a larger car to accommodate my aunts heavy wheelchair, when out yesterday we met a family who's mother was using a small motorised wheelchair. Today has been spent selecting and ordering a similar model suppose it's cheaper than a new car. Where's the gin bottle!!!

  8. Summer 1955. Left to right: Pat Holt, Raymond Henson, Glennys Wells, Eric Ingle, Sylvia Robinson and Melvyn York. Interesting footnote to this photo. Eric Ingle's parents, apparently, kept the sweet shop on the corner of Berridge Road and Oakland Street at this time. I knew the shop slightly later on when it was kept by the lovely Mr and Mrs Merriman. I would imagine it changed hands in the late 50s. I know PeverilPeril was familiar with this shop during his time at Berridge and he may recall the Ingles. The Merrimans emigrated to Australia in the e

  9. Lizzie please don't "jump the gun" ( says she worrying about the next visit in sept) Who says if there's evidence of cancer? I've had these scans since 2010 plus the PET scans and each time it's a tense moment. As you have to drink water before you go in I think you will be having the scan with contrast. I'm suppose to drink 1 lt of water BEFORE I leave home and not allowed to go to loo, then a 1/2 lt of something in water to drink. By the time I get in I'm bursting.Anyway don't worry you'll have peace of mind soon. Not sure if it's a good thing having a gown on or your own clothes as lo

  11. I enjoy looking at these Berridge photos , the way they dressed and hairstyles remind me of an age of innocence and fun. If you were to look at a modern school photo how many of them would have to be wearing the latest style of clothing and sporting hair fashioned after the latest celebrity . I can only remember a couple of names of others who were in my class at School and here we have contributors giving names of most of the pupils, many who were not in their class, how do they do it what is their secret or is it just me that has a terrible memory.

  12. A very good morning for me I had tests done at W'ton Eye Hospital to find out why I had lost the sight in my left eye some weeks ago. The surgeon ( what a pleasant and efficient man he is ) said that it could probably be fixed with two ops using laser treatment. Failing that a major procedure should fix it. In layman's terms the plumbing that was used many years ago to hold the retina in position had come adrift. So there is a good chance that this 'one eyed deaf old git' will become just a common 'deaf old git'

  13. I have had a day like DJ360 with his plumbing. Mine was going to be a much easier task or so I thought. A must have on all Australian homes are fly screens and fly screen doors so when the cylinder expired on one of our doors and started to let the door close with a bang that shook the house I thought it was time to replace it. Being the engineer that I am I thought if I could replace like for like it would be so much easier so I took the old cylinder off made a note of the manufacturer and model number and toddled of to a large hardware outlet. Searching through the shel

  14. The problem with jam making is that you get a glut of fruit and think that making jam would be a good idea. You make more than you can possibly eat and get fed up with the same jam day after day. It’s easier to buy it and get a choice. We’ve lots of fruit, currently a glut of greengages, which are delicious, fresh straight from the tree but are never the same when you cook with them or turn them into jam. Our next glut will be damsons which I eat from the tree whilst I’m mowing the orchard. As for apples, we’ll have more Bramleys than we know what to do with. I love apple pie but Bramleys do t
