  1. Weather permitting we will be making up a flask (tea), wrapping up warm and walk Kai down to Wollaton Hall. We will sit on a bench by the lake and have a cuppa. Nothing very exciting but a small pleasure.

  2. You are right Phil it's only natural that families want to be together but as you say "wait for the increase in cases" it seems that nobody thinks things out. " I want and I'll do what I want, I don't care about the rest and too bad if someone dies" Selfish?? Yes it is, until one of their family gets hit. Maybe they will reflect on their behavior....or maybe they won't.

  4. @DJ360You have a pragmatic stance on the situation and will be acting sensibly to prevent the spread of infection. However there are many out there who want to 'celebrate' Christmas in the traditional way with friends and family. Whatever the regulations are in force at the time, many will ignore. This will result in a massive increase in infections and deaths of the elderly in the new year. The situation will be impossible to police.

  5. As per usual, I won't be relying upon the Govt. or 'social pressure' to tell me what to do for Christmas. The following facts remain facts (unless you are some sort of weirdo Covid Denier) 1. The Virus is still out there. 2. It is still highly contagious. 3. Few..if any.. have any immunity. 4. It affects the elderly and those with 'co-morbidities' in a disproportionate fashion. It follows. in my World. that Christmas does not negate the risk. I cannot express how much I miss seeing and hugging my Grandkids. I also miss seeing my

  6. I agree, Col. Christmas is an important Christian festival but I can celebrate it virtually with like-minded people. Our Zoom gatherings 2 - 3 times a week have been SO good, and we will be continuing using this for our interactive Bible Study groups even when we are allowed to meet for our services in the church building! As for meeting with our immediate family (13 people) at Christmas, we won’t ALL be gathering together at one house this year. We already look after one of our grandchildren once a week at our house for an hour after school pick up, and we’re in regular virtual cont

  8. So sorry carni that you are both so incapacitated by this horrible virus. You must be really fed up with it all... just keep hydrated and sleep whenever you want. Forget about the difference between day and night. If you can’t sleep during part of the night, get up and watch some rubbish TV or something. This WILL pass eventually. Thinking of you both xx

  9. Thankyou Lizzie. I keep popping in to NS throughout the day, but I'm afraid I haven't got any staying power at the moment, This virus has really knocked us about. I don't know if it our age but there is a lot more to it than we expected. Our daughter/granddaughter are both fine now, but we are far from it. Chris is now on antibiotics for chest infection. The coughs are horrendous, there is no let up day and night. We have no strength between us, can't even walk from one room to another without getting exhausted. We are just hoping for some improvement soon, it wou

  11. Some won't, Nonna. Headline from report from doctors in Italy in the Times today "Covid deniers abuse doctors across Italy as deaths mount" To paraphrase Basil Fawlty " We've got both ends of the evolutionary spectrum staying tonight"

  13. No idea what or where we’ll spend Christmas this year. We’re just like most people in not knowing if we can spend time with family and/or friends. Our little granddaughter is still in Czech Republic and I daren’t ask when or how she’ll be coming home. Maybe our son, daughter-in-law and grandson will drive over to Czech and spend Christmas there ....... maybe she’ll fly home. I don’t want to discuss all of that with our son because he misses his little girl so much. Our other son, who is single and usually spends Christmas with us, has just announced that he’s going to Tanzania for

  20. Beginning of this week we where told that we would have to wear face covering for indoor work (bit late to the party?) its only for about 2, 2 &1/2 hours, I have to admit it's horrid, you can't breath while working, hats off to the NHS & shop workers who wear them all day, don't know how they do it?

  21. I think Christmas will be a non event this year. I'm quite looking forward to avoiding all the festive nonsense. I've requested chop, chips and beans for Christmas dinner but my request has been refused. We have a table that can be extended to seat 10. We'll sit at opposite ends, socially distanced.

  22. We are out of our ultra strict "circuit breaker" lockdown as of Saturday midnight. It now appears that one of the two prime origin cases had deliberately told lies to the contact tracing team that ultimately led to the decision to lockdown the entire state. Strangely enough there are no penalties for misleading the contact tracers? Still awaiting a formal announcement of what we are allowed or not allowed to do as of midnight Saturday.

  23. I don't know it all RoseQueen but if my old memory serves me well, before being renamed 'Marketside' it was the 'Sir Robert Clifton'. Affectionately known as Cliftows by some.

  24. I think the Fox and Grapes - AKA Pretty Windows was indeed on Sheridan St and the pub on 'marketside' ie Bath St side of Sneinton Market was actually called 'Market side' in my day !!!!!! Being a Sneinton lass i was way too familiar with all the local pubs my Mum and her friends hung out in - though it now makes a great conversation point if anyone from outta-town starts up ( especially when they think they know it all - bless)

  25. All these people with their posh holidays looking down their noses at good old Nottingham by the Sea. We had an old caravan on the Walsh site on Roman Bank of which I have the fondest childhood memories of trips during the fifties with members of my immediate and extended family. This was the era of Calor Gas Bottles and popping gas mantle lights, site rent was £10 a year and winter storage of the van £2-50. Who can forget the early morning sight of my momma ( a good Nottinghamism, granny to those not in the know) running across a rain lashed site towards the lavatories and d
