  1. G'mornin' ya'll Finally got on the laptop. The whole header of NS is only half there. Probably why I can't find the three dots. More positive notes. I am reading this without glasses! Had my second cataract surgery on Monday a.m. The difference is amazing. Everything is much clearer and brighter. Colours look like new. Gotta use drops for the next couple of weeks and see my own eye doctor on Monday for followup, but I can live with that. If your eye doctor ever recommends this surgery don't hesitate. It works great and is less uncomfortable than a visit t

  5. How's this for a great "result": The day before Xmas the manager of the local Cat Protection came around and told us that a wealthy man's cat had died and that he had made a huge donation to the Cat Protection, to do with as they see fit. She told us that they had decided to buy food with it and distribute it between local people who are known to be feeding feral cats. She opened her van and unloaded about £200 worth of cat food and wished us a merry Xmas!

  6. It was fortunate we weren’t permitted to ‘entertain’ this Christmas because we’ve had an unfinished 1000 piece jigsaw on the dining room table for about 2 months. When it was finally completed a couple of days ago I had to dust it before breaking it up!

  8. Milton Jones is the best of the current crop. Some may find his humour "off the wall", but he had me in stitches dt Northampton's Derngate Theatre back in 2012/3 and he didn't need to swear to do so. (Not that swearing bothers me).

  9. An hour or so ago, CT, I found myself in a strange place called an Inbox where I could read all my PMs! Never been there before. Spent the last half an hour trying to get there again with b*gger all success. I can send PMs by clicking on other people's little blue envelopes in their profiles. Just can't access their replies. I'd tell you what I think of this upgrade but I don't use language like that!

  12. I just LOVE Billy Connolly, the funniest man on TV in the past 30 years. I’ve seen him live on stage a couple of times and so pleased I did because he won’t be performing anymore. Peter Kay, another comedian who we might not see again, is another big favourite of mine. All the rest of ‘em are rubbish and don’t even make me smile nevermind laugh.

  13. Banda machines ! When I was a specification clerk in the production control office at Raleigh, my job was preparing formats that fitted onto these machines. When breaking down orders for cycles, into component parts we used write out on sheets with carbon paper attached underneath, the ' wrong way round, so an image formed on the reverse side. When completed these were checked then passed on to Banda operators to print off copies for different departments of the factory. Every component had a 7 digit code to identify it. The only one I remember was 3880037/90 (stainless finish) or /91 (chro

  20. I'll wager Mrs Pettigrew wasn't her real name! Two of my maternal uncles lived in Beeston. One lived in Endsleigh Gardens which in the 30s, after his marriage, was a brand new house. Endsleigh Gardens was, at that time, a gated community. The gate gave access to High Road, Beeston and every resident had a key which they used when they went shopping. Vehicle access was at the other end of Endsleigh Gardens. Years ago my mother, who as a child was a frequent visitor to the houses of both her uncles, showed me where this access onto High Road had been. The gate was long go

  22. Scroll back a few pages in this thread to November 2018 where I posted a list of all the Marsden's shops in the early 1960s. All the branches mentioned today are listed there - along with many others.

  23. I remember a 'posh' Marsdens in Woodthorpe. It was on Thackeray's Lane roundabout. We never used it though. Mr. Taylor's on Marlborough Rd and Dabel's on the corner of Buckingham Rd. were our nearest grocery stores. All long gone now. Arthur Richardson's used to supply the independent grocery shops.

  25. The only ten pounder I knew was a mate I worked with, Bob Woodcock. He went out in early 72/3 to join the prison service. Gathered he did quite well, but lost touch quite a while back. Hopefully none of you ten pounders will have met him professionally!

  26. I've noticed that male cats tend to form closer relationships with female humans and female cats with male humans. Certainly, with my own cats, the males have always been more affectionate than the females who tend to be more aloof. Babs will come round, Ben. Perhaps she's waiting for you to ask her to dance!

  28. The opposing fans will be singing "Relegation to you, relegation to you, relegation dear Forest, relegation to you" and it may well come true Even the Sheep are above us now on goal difference which is not surprising given Forest's goal scoring capability. We are only three points above the Owls who started the season on minus 12 points and will soon be flying above Forest if we continue not being able to score. I see the Stags home game was postponed because there was an inch of snow on the pitch? In mine and Ben's day they would have rolled it flat, cleared the lines an
