  2. More about food for the needy. I had forgotten in times of crisis our village does what they call " Spesa sospesa" which means shopping waiting more or less with " We cannot change the world but everyone of us can change the life of someone" When shopping for yourself buy extra and pay for it but leave the products in the store to be used by the needy. It's also popular in the bars ( which at the moment are closed) when you go to the bar and have your whatever then pay for your friend or acquaintance that has already has his coffee etc, so,next time his coffee etc is paid for and he usually do

  4. I've got into Dad's Army in the last couple of years, it's always being repeated on BBC2. Back at the time, I was aware of it but thought it was 'about old people, for old people'. I now think it's intelligent, clever, and funny. And it hasn't dated through time; it didn't depend on anything fashionable or contemporary.

  8. As an aside, I lifted this picture from a 29min.video on YT. It's called, "Daybrook to Bestwood walk", going along the old track bed. The map shows the old lines that were around that area. I can post the video if anyone wants to see it. I found it very interesting.

  9. Ben, we’ll have to agree to differ! Asymmetrical designs aren't identical, but do have some similar properties, such as color, height or design style. This type of placement doesn't use equal balancing. In fact, odd numbers work best for added interest. A grouping of three vases that are different heights, shapes and sizes, but all have the same color palette and design style, makes a good asymmetrical grouping. Asymmetrical designs are great for casual and informal décors.

  11. The first I knew about Nottingham Suburban Railway was when I was buying a house on Mapperley Rise in the early 1980s. My solicitor said: "Do you know there is a tunnel under there?" He showed me a plan and sure enough the Sherwood tunnel was directly under the lounge. His next question was: "Do you want to get a structural survey done?" I thought that sounded prudent so went ahead. The surveyor said there was minimal risk as the tunnel was bored through sandstone.

  14. thank you to @Stuart.C Lots of information in those links. I have seen it before but great to reread it all. Looking at the past and present photos, I think I could be on one of them! It was outside the house and said ? In the 1950s. There is a girl with a coach built pram on the right. When I was 13 or 14, I regularly used to take a neighbour's twins out in their pram into the park, and sometimes sat on that seat! That would be 1956/57. It is a bit blurry when the photo is enlarged but she actually seems to look like I used to at that age. Of course it probably isn't me but it g

  25. Not sure where I got this story from, but here goes. The tunnel was built approximately mid 18hundreds, for the carriages to get to the Park Estate. It was never used for what it was built for as it turned out to be too steep for the horses to drag the carriages up there? We attended that Tunnel meet up and it was a lovely day. Sorry to say it rained throughout the walk, but the company made up for that. I believe Sue (Mrs Catfan) took some pictures and made a presentation of them, it was brilliant, I had a look on our Nottstalgia Social Events thread and there was also some

  28. This film has a wonderful charm, a bit before my time but recognise the chap from Crackerjack.. Was Luicille the neglected lass singing the sombre song? Given the artists and sound, I'm sure the brilliant Joe Meek must have played a part. However..best thing musically, Kenny Ball and Gene Vincent...

  29. Easy. Go to Google Maps. Find where you live.. either leave it as a map, or select 'Satellite'. Home in on the bit you want to show. Copy the URL from the Address bar and post it here... Here's the house I useter live in in Nottm.. which is no longer nything to do with my family: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.9975478,-1.1758293,59m/data=!3m1!1e3 And if you pick up the little yellow figure bottom right and place him on your map.. you can then move his view about.. which is how I got this: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.9977369,-1.17597,3

  30. I mentioned a number of road and farm names. If you zoom in you will find them. However.. I also took a lot of photos with every intention of posting them... but late last evening we realised that the house was getting a bit chilly... It turned out there was a fault on the CH boiler so that we had hot water.. but no circulation through the radiators. Typical... coldest night of the year. So I spent a lot of time trying what little I know about boilers.. to fix it.. to no avail. I also had to drag a couple of ancient fan heaters out of the garage to give us some heat... Spent mos

  38. If you missed the first one last week, Talking Pictures have started showing episodes of the old TV series 'Budgie' with Adam Faith. I watched it back in the day and was a big fan. I caught the first episode last week and it had stood the test of time better than many things from that era. Highlight of each episode was often Ian Cutherbertson as Charlie Endall.......and I used to really fancy Budgie's girlfriend Hazel (Lynn Dalby). It's on Tuesdays at 9pm until further notice.

  39. Another bit of sentimental tat which I've posted before somewhere on here. My dad took loads of family photos when I was younger, and I've still got most of them. There's probably a photo here for every week of my life until my early teens.
