My great-grandfather ("Dan Conroy"), grandfather and great-uncles ("The Five Sherry Brothers"), and father and uncle ("The Nelson Brothers") all played the Empire. I walked in their footsteps in while on holiday in 2019, visiting an Aunt in Clifton. It was incredibly evocative but I wish I could have toured the Empire, alas. Nottingham was the family home for decades but well before I was born. My great-great grandparents, Harry and Louisa Truman, ran The Red Lion in Costock before moving to the Waggon and Horses in Bleasby. There was a real sense of "home" for me in Nottingham.2 points

This reminded me of Fivepenny Piece a folk group in the seventies from Stalybridge and Ashton -Under-Lyme. Their female lead singer Lynda Meeks was one of those unforgettable voices. Many of their songs were comedic but others told stories of the changes in Lancashire during that era. I have several of their albums on vinyl and this is one of my favorite tracks Stalybridge Station Fivepenny Piece - YouTube1 point

Well done Paul!! It was a great pop song and Polly Brown was quite endearing before she incomprehensibly 'blacked up' for some song.. Not a great career move. I only found out a year or so back that 'Same Old Feeling' was originally recorded as an album track by the Foundations: And the song was also given the Fortunes' vocal treatment: You can't keep a good song down.. They're all great versions and I love them all...1 point

@mary1947 I thought you written hair cutting tutorial was very clear. @Beekay the angles refer to the position of each section of hair in relation to the head. @philmayfield I sometimes do the ‘twist and cut’ on my own hair too! (not the same as twist and shout, unless you jab your neck with sharp scissors)1 point

Until recently I had a Lotus Elise as a toy for track days. It had a very high and wide sill. Ultimately I had to get out of it on my hands and knees. I decided that was a bit undignified so it had to go!1 point

NBL, we don't do Valentines Day either, although we do eat a few chocolates together....... but there again, we quite often do that anyway! I don't need a special day to show and tell Paul how much I love him after nearly 51 years together.... (and the same is true for him). We are going away for a couple of nights from tomorrow, though, but that is a just a celebration of his being completely over his illness now.1 point
