  1. More class! If you can.. go 'full screen' on this .. it is fabulous.. I have an abiding memory of one of the older lads on Southglade Road breaking out into 'Only You',, at the time.. I'd be about 6. The girl singer Zola Taylor was lovely. Sadly she died of pneumonia in 2009 aged 69. She was replaced in the Platters by Barbara Randolph, already an established singer and actress..who went on to join the 'Motown' stable. Barbara is probably best remembered now for her version of : 'I Got A Feelin'. She died in South Africa.. from cancer.. aged 60.

  2. We nearly had a pair of Mallards set up home on the pond. Lovely birds and because the pond is only 5 feet from the conservatory, we could watch them peacefully. Got them almost eating out of my hand. The cats and dog showed interest but not aggressively so, until Patch the JR took it into his head to chase them off yesterday afternoon. They came back this morning and all was OK all day until Patch chased them off again. Doubt if we will see them again. Bleddy dog, cats, hens - all acting like animals...... The beaten up hen seems to be recovering without being isolated. So she will be left in

  5. Does anyone know when the last Trent barge found its way up river to Nottingham and how far beyond Nottingham they could travel? There seems to be some barges on the opposite side of the river in this photo. Photo: My brother fishing opposite the Waterways buildings near Trent Bridge circa 1973

  9. How about providing access to each end of the Great Central tunnel from Vic Centre to whatever becomes of Broad Marsh and fitting it out with lockup stalls for independent retailers? They could divert the southern end to exit between the Contemporary Art Gallery and the caves. The northern end could have steps/ramp/lift to somewhere around the vacant Bon Marche shop on Parliament Street. Add a couple of ramped access points along the route for safety reasons (say Pelham Street and Bottle Lane). It is pretty empty at present, aside of the two DHS hot water pipes along its eastern side wall

  10. Our upstairs windows have a moveable latch to allow them to open at 90 degrees to the frame, so I can reach them by sitting on the window sill.

  12. What a fantastic sound to start my day DJ. The unbeatable sound of 'The Platters' plus a beautiful, elegant lady as well. I feel a day of 'The Platters' coming up. As you know I have got quite a selection to choose from. Where do I start? I don't think anything will beat your video.

  14. I also love the Shirelles version. Lots of the soul bands I saw in the 60s did versions of this song.

  16. Watt Simmons roller blinds wasn't on Boden Street, it was at the top of Denton Street, with address as Denman Street. It was four doors up from where I lived. We used to go in there to scrounge sawdust for pet cages etc. They had a wood stockyard next door to the washouse (other side of Denman street). Next door to workshop was the Denman Inn, (top of Kyme street).....Just chucked in for interest.

  18. I bet most Nottstalgians remember in their younger days there was one afternoon a week when the shops didn't open. When I was a kid, it still operated in most areas outside of city centres. On Clifton it was Wednesday afternoon, so all the shops were closed from 12 on a Wednesday - apart from the newsagent which opened again later in the day for evening papers. My dad used to work as a pharmacist in chemist shops, and all the places he worked had early closing on Thursday, so in his entire working life he never worked on a Thursday afternoon. And Sundays……..the shops on Clifton didn't open
