  1. Revenue from the book still trickling in! Just had another £5.04 via PayPal. Don’t think I’ll give up the day job, but Winston’s Wish continue to benefit. Must have donated nearly £100 now, so as well as being fun to research and write it’s been worthwhile.

  4. Almost 51 years next month. My mum wasnt chuffed because I was marrying a " foreigner " Dad was happy. She eventually came round but at first she said" as long as you know what youre doing, because if theres another war........." ( I was 26) She did say after a few years that she'd got it wrong about us. Mentioning legality, we married at the Nottingham Cathedral by Father Sebastiano the Italian preist. He said the vows in Italian and said he would repeat them in English. He never did so maybe we are not married either.

  7. Great Post DJ360 a real trip down memory lane to the best era of music. I could have sworn that some of those certainly went to No1. Like Please Please Me, My Generation, God Only Knows, Penny Lane, Magical Mystery Tour and probably one of the most evocative songs of the time Waterloo Sunset Then again some didn't even deserve to be in the charts and were absolute rubbish. This has been posted on here before but well worth another look, mixed memories.

  8. Yeah not really, we had a neighbour at the time who was obsessed with it.... drove me crackers. Like you I've rather over done it today. Sister wanted a new socket and it involved working on the cons unit in a tiny space under her stairs. I had to have a nap after, absolutely jiggered...and I know I'm going to pay for it tomorrow.

  12. I had some beautiful running spikes from Redmaynes while at school, white kangaroo leather with red stripes, they were the biz! A friend’s dad was something to do with the company. My friend sadly died on the rugby pitch when he was only 23 but his brother is MD of Gunn & Moore I believe.

  14. Old Rick was raised in Newton Le Willows.. which is a Ward of St Helens Borough. When he was first famous.. I was spending much of my working week in Newton Le Willows College.. and there was a constant 'buzz' about Rick at the time. It was also rumoured that his girlfriend of the time came from Billinge.. also a part of St Helens Borough.. so Rick is almost a mate...

I was interested to read all this, but please excuse if I have missed this somewhere... there was a shop on bridlesmith gate in the early 70s called 'Advance'.. which later became selectadisc? re the selectadisc on arkwright street, a friend and i were arrested for taking some old album sleeves off the wall the day before it got flattened...we got a caution...the the album sleeves were buried in landfill presumably.. ; )

  17. There are silly rules but I don't want to open the Brexit debate, I've stated my view. Let's set out first and foremost most EU laws are actually directives and member states have a choice about adopting them under article 114. Why do we use pounds and not Euros? - because we said no, we opted out! Taking the period '99 - '16 the UK voted NO on 56 directives, abstained on 70 and accepted without making a fuss... 2466 Now the silly rules. The IEC lead, commonly called a kettle lead, it is a legal requirement for every appliance that uses them to be supp

  18. Col, I'm not getting into a political conflict, but not everyone who voted to leave is a xenophobic racist. As I've said elsewhere, I voted remain, because I could foresee the current difficulties we're now enduring. However, deep down I want out. I don't mind EU residents living here. It's the outrageous and unnecessary laws that I despise, and the endless gravy train costing us billions !

  19. I enjoy oysters but you can have too many. Some years ago three of us took a Piper Cherokee on a flying club trip to the Quiberon peninsular in Brittany. There was a welcome at the airfield where we were each given half a dozen oysters and a bottle of local wine. One of our party was a strictly meat and two veg man so myself and other friend split his oysters between us. It was late afternoon and were driven to our hotel to await the evening banquet. After a few pre dinner Kirs we were ushered into the dining room to be greeted by another half a dozen oysters each and of course we split our fr
