  2. We have a flock of five at the at the moment and yes they do tend to eat virtually everything in sight, but they are a large bird and consequently eat more than a small one. I have hot glued bars on the feeders to limit their access and give others a chance to feed but they do seem resourceful buggers. What I don't understand why they are considered vermin, if they were rare and endangered would we still consider them so? ALL birds carry parasites, all birds are health hazards, all birds are flying s**t machines yet we pick on pigeons... Let's be clear we help the spread of parasite

  3. Well letsav.. if that's true.. it's even more cynical. "Want to buy a souvenir of Nottm Castle? Be our guest! That'll be 'kerr-ching'" " What?.. You want to actually see the castle? (breath drawn through teeth..) Now that'll cost you!!"

  8. Watching the tiny wrens whizzing up and down on the trachycarpus is a very entertaining sight. Sometimes they nest high up in it but they appear to have given it a miss this year in favour of hunting its insects. They seem to be finding plenty. Horace/Doris the hedgehog was out early last night at 10pm. Still light enough to watch him/her feeding 3 feet away from me. I've never seen a hedgehog put away so much food at one sitting. For a human, the equivalent of a 12 course banquet. Must have been hungry.

  12. Col. You can apparently access the gift shop and cafe without payment. I believe as these are now just behind the traditional Gateway entrance but beyond that is ticket only.

  13. I have never been of the ilk which goes looking for excuses to attack Local Govt. But NCC seem to invite it. Another case of failure to recognise an asset when it is staring the Council in the face. The castle is a draw in itself. The built in cafe and gift shop could be profitable... entrance fees to the grounds could be charged, but be reasonable and the whole city could benefit economically from visitors. But I too can't see there being many takers at those prices. So the cafe etc.. will lose.. as will the city in general. There is only one thing Nottm City
