  1. I've just logged in and spotted all your kind and funny posts. Fair made me smile you did. Catfan, we have a holiday booked at our beloved Skeggy for two weeks in September, it has been moved three times, twice due to Covid and last time due to my hospital visit, fingers crossed! Trogg, That picture certainly looks like an 'Elephants foot' to me? Hope to see you all when things settle down.x

  2. I agree Jill. Who gave the wokelings the right to re-write and sanitise history to their view of the world. History is history, including all the nasty bits and as much as they object it cannot be re-written. It seems me that every advert/program on free to air television these day has to have a person of colour, ethnic origin and indeterminate sexuality out of all proportion to the populous. Woebetide any advert/program that attempts to offer a real view of the world, the keyboard warriors will vent their spleens and have it made more woke. Come the revolution, put me down to drive the tu

  3. With, 'every advert/program on free to air television these day has to have a person of colour, ethnic origin and indeterminate sexuality out of all proportion to the populous', it springs to mind the phrase, 'a chip on their shoulder'. The thing that irritates me is these sodding woke's and do-gooders always seem to wheedle their way into the media streams. More often that not with the lip-spittling, hand-wringing and grovelling BBC. Watching TV these day's I often think which nation I'm actually living in.

  4. Even after all these years, it still amazes me that Nottstalgia can come up with a surprise like that.

  5. It’s not a question of prejudice in TV advertising. It’s just that the multi race families they show on many of the adverts are not representative of their presence in society at large. We don’t see many Asian or Chinese mixed families. Other lives matter as well.

  7. This photo was in an edition of the Nottingham Guardian Journal of 7th Nov 1964 , of girls from Padstow School which may be of use to someone , someday . Though my wife went to this school she would have been slightly younger than these girls and can't help with any names unfortunately .

  11. I see Tom O'Connor has died. A maths teacher who became a comedian. He seemed a pleasant type of chap. I was taught maths by a comedian, too! Not too many laughs there.

  13. What the bloody hell on God's own Earth is Quantum physics?? Have I just stepped into the Twilight Zone. That's what happens with a limited vocabulary and even more limited education.

  14. Direct your grey matter towards more worthy and rewarding subjects, Beekay. Quantum physics, for instance. Schrodinger placed two politicians in a box and closed the lid. Unless we take a look, how do we know they're still there? Who cares?

  15. I think in my first Mini a heater was an optional extra for about £10 and automatic transmission in a car had barely been heard of. With modern auto transmissions you can’t even roll back on hill starts.

  22. Had a phone call yesterday from one of the doctors PA at QMC I have been diagnosed with "Carpal Tunnel" in both hands. The PA said that they have had cancellation so would I like to come in for my opp on the said date. Now don't get me wrong I am pleased to have opp (CP is quite common) but I am not looking forward to going in QMC. I have got to get there for 7 00 am and living where we do will just take about half an hour, but at that time in a morning master and my-self are half asleep. A big thanks to my daughter-in-law Nina, she has a week off and she has offerd to take me and fet

  23. Phil, we've had a lovely sea breeze blowing over the South Downs and caressing us while we sat outside today, surveying our domain. A cloudless sky all day, we only came in because we were getting a numb bum, sitting on our bench. It's a hard life but somebody's got to do it.

  25. Many times I agree with you CF, you talk a lot of sense, but on this occasion I think you're wrong. A simple google search brings up many BBC reports about the scandal of Asians grooming young girls and there was at the time strong criticism of the term 'Asian gangs'. Sajid Javid (the then Home Secretary) said it was wrong to ignore their ethnicity and defended the use of the phrase used by the BBC. Immigrants crossing the channel has as many pages of results and there are even Youtube videos on the subject from the BBC. I have no knowledge of a homosexual i

  27. I'm glad somebody understands it all. Me, I ain't got a clue. Brew and DJ leave me miles behind. I just do not understand this "leaning to the left or leaning to the right". I wouldn't know a 'lefties if I fell over one in vaccination queue. Think I'll continue to read Brew and DJ, then get somebody to decipher for me. As you can tell, I know bugger all about politics.

  29. It wasn't rough during my four years there, 1958-1962, although discipline was pretty strict. The Headmaster while I was there was Mr Jewitt, hope I spelled his name right. Mr Joe Spungin was one of my teachers, a gentleman well known to several of the members on here and who's Son went on to better things. Woodwork was carried out an an annex next to Shelton Street School under a Mr Searle, an extremely nice and talented woodworker. He had great patience and imparted his cabinet making skills to all of us.
