I don't know about anyone else, but when the media speaks of the elderly, old age pensioners or senior citizens, I am not thinking they mean me!9 points

Quite possibly but perhaps there are many other versions of us: a Ben who doesn't like women; a Brew who's a helpless alcoholic; a Trogg who's a right little Casanova; a Margie who's an atheist; a Cliff Ton who can't find his way round a map; a DJ who votes Conservative....another version of me who understands the inane witterings of Pythagoras. Now that is scary!6 points

Anyway not long after Mavis had reunited with ''Big Ron'' i was back down the 'Locarno' on Tuesday ''Teenbeat nights'' Looking for a bit of a 'dance' and 'Romance'...Was working for Marsdens now and at 16 in the summer of 61' earning a bit more money.....after paying my Mam £3 board still had just over £2 for mesen.......the world was indeed my 'Oyster' I was with my mate Keith (Columbo) scanning the ladies on the dance floor.....when i spotted this lovely dark haired girl who could really move.....she was dancing with a blonde girl.......both were wearing flat shoes5 points

I am convinced of the multiverse concept. Many planes of existence, possibly all coexisting in the same 'space' but at totally different vibrational levels and normally totally unaware of each other. 'Aliens', whatever an individual understands by this term, i suspect may simply be entities existing on a different vibrational plane. Not from outer space but inner space. Our plane of existence, in my opinion, is pretty dense...in more ways than one! A friend of mine likes to describe humans as 'cheesemites' going about their simple business, unaware of the possibility t3 points

Not played much but this Roy Orbison song is a stunner . Written by Jeff Lynn. However , after playing it , found I was whistling the tune to myself and it sort of morphed into Nessun Dorma ! Maybe it's the strings on this version that make it sound similar ?3 points

She couldn't be an improvement on you Margie The concept of multiverses and infinity are far too extreme although I could be persuaded about time being warped. This post was made on June 21st 2026.2 points

Oh yes my old boss at Farrands/Marsdens also lived on Woodthorpe drive..Ken Barrand....... In that bad winter of 63........i had the use of a Farrands 15cwt van.all logoed up and...not to be used privately......... Anyway one night when it was snowing heavy...about 10pm after i'd dropped Trina off........i got into a skid top of Woodthorpe........and passed Ken's house side-ways......lol Edit both lived Pete and Ken in the middle of Woodthorpe drive..2 points

Used to be a rite of passage that, on buying a car, I also bought a Haynes manual for it. Those days are long gone as modern cars are far too complicated for me to consider anything but the most basic of maintenance (fluids and filters). Hence why my plug spanner and feeler gauges are enjoying a happy retirement in the old toolbox.2 points

I've always reckoned that life out there is so far ahead of us that they wouldn't bother trying. We're too primitive. They see us in the same way we look at worms.2 points

How very dare you? Thing is you are sort of right. I'm not wealthy and numerous factors led to me not ending up with a big stash of cash. So.. if I want to spend £800+ (with trade in) on a cartridge.. (not just a needle) worthy of the rest of my poncy hi fi system.. I have to save it elsewhere. The other point is of course that my elderly car is working perfectly and every day it continues to do so is another day I'm not shelling out for a new one... so my savings increase. There is a very good chance that my car will outlive me.. and it is also becoming increasingly collect1 point

Horses for courses PP. Some people, mentioning no names, are happy to keep a decent but aged car and reluctant to spend money on a new replacement. They will however happily give a kings ransom for a new needle on the gramophone . Some people I could mention like to labour away making an apple flavoured drink that Tesco sell by the gallon for a fraction of the price... I'll not labour the point by mentioning football supporters and the price of a season ticket.. From a purely financial perspective I'm mad to spend the money I do on motors, herself keeps t1 point

I remember that back lane. It was cinder track. It's still there. My friend's garden backs onto it.1 point

This area ? https://goo.gl/maps/p83E5W4zju7wAoLXA Note there are two Woodthorpe Drives. Apparently there used to be a toll gate at the end of the southerly road, so people would sneak up the back alley (the northerly path) to avoid paying.1 point

No Margie;; scared me stiff......especially passing Ken's house side-ways.....and for some reason i ''Ducked down'' so he wouldn't see me............1 point

A friend of mine lives at the bottom of Woodthorpe Drive on the triangle of land that used to be allotments. There was a small building on the corner of Mansfield Rd. Had that been a toll house? We used to get into Woodthorpe Park after hours through a bent railing opposite the bank that goes down to Woodthorpe Avenue.1 point

MB have gone down the digital route for manuals. My last car had one similar in thickness to a Littlewoods catalogue. This one is like an average paperback. It only gives a brief outline before referring you to the digital version on the hard drive..1 point

My car has so many gizmos 'to aid the driver' it's actually dangerous to use them unless stationary. The climate control is one example, it's a nightmare to operate and can take several minutes of faffing about to get it how you want.1 point

There is a theory that the big bang was not instantaneous but took time, infinitesimally small but not instant. During that time many universes were created like bubbles and each 'bubble' created another and so on, a multiverse separated by tiny increments of space and time. This opens up the possibility that somewhere 'out there' or 'in here' there is another 'us' another Ben, so perhaps ladies you should gather your skirts and run for the hills while you can!1 point

Proves my point, KJ. America, a totally different plane of existence! Some of them are orange!!1 point

One problem is the word 'Alien'. People have prejudices, make assumptions and jump to conclusions when they see it. Alien really just means 'different to us'.1 point

I think that aliens would visit by stealth to learn all about us - they are possibly already walking round on earth unnoticed.1 point

It's a great song David. I have it on the 'Mystery Girl' album.. (vinyl.. obviously..) but haven't heard the version with the RPO. Can't listen at present, but I will later.1 point

Look what a lucky escape you had, @mary1947 If you'd been born a couple of years earlier, you might have been one of his conquests! On the positive side, you'd never have gone short of tub butter!1 point

Ben, you have to remember that Mary is couple of years younger than you so in 1961 she would have only been 14 and it may have been called Teeny Boppers a bit after this?1 point

70,000 miles is nothing for a modern car. Mileages of 200,000 are achievable with regular oil changes and servicing. If you do keep a car for a long time you do miss out on all the innovations in goodies and gizmos though.1 point

Thats no banger Col , it looks smart and a 2.0 its a mover, you made the right choice buy a decent car ,look after it and keep it, it makes good financial sense. I have at last made my mind up to keep this one and not waste any more money buying new ones, there is too many buttons, switches and voices and buzzers telling me info I dont need on cars made now.1 point

if I remembr correctly it was 1/3 to get in on a Tuesday night and tanner for a coke. Was it not also called "teeny bopper's night"1 point

Was due to go into QMC for opp on my capple tunnel (wrist) had a call 6 00 night before, now have to have it done at the City hospital. I| could not praise the staff enough. Very organized, gave you a good check over, did a covi test and more. After opp was taken back to my room, then the nurse came over ask if i would like a cup of tea and a sandwhich. Nothing was to much trouble for them.. Boris take note and give the NHS staff a nice big rise. They sre worth every £ they get.1 point

Earth Angel was issued in the UK, on the London label, with the triangular centre and the Gold print..which I have never seen. I can't find out how many copies were produced.. but it is one of the rarest UK singles in existence..especially in anything approaching mint condition. See this auction in 2009 which raised £1800. https://www.popsike.com/The-Penguins-7-Single-Earth-Angel-London-Record-Label/250499618907.html It was copied by Canadian white group the Crew-Cuts, who also did a version of another early classic. Been a while since I visited, and wondered if anyone has memories of the Locarno? First went in 1960, and was smitten! The music then-when I first went in with a couple of mates, the song Runaway by Del Shannon was playing. After that went every Sat, some Sundays, Bank Holidays. Remember the twelve hour Rock Around The Clock sessions? Every hour, on came the Bill Haley and The Comets song. Jiving----great stuff. Girl watching---even better. Sadly, when the locomotion and the twist dominated i lost interest. Having said that the Locarno was the highlight of the week---and no booze. But there w1 point

Actually, we fen females are very strong willed, open minded and know our rights! However, I still think women’s exploits are viewed differently from men’s, in the eyes of many of the older generation. Having read comments on Nottstalgia over the past 5 years on various controversial subjects, I can see that some of the people on here are still quite ‘conservative’ in their opinions. That’s not meant as a particularly negative comment btw .... I’m just saying it as I see it.1 point
