  1. Catching up with my reading I came across the post from DJ360, 13,5,1920,, referring to 'coloured engines' especially the Midland Compound No. 1000. I was told the 'before' photo was taken in 1955, as she's still hauling a local passenger train that wouldn't be a bad record for a 1902 built engine! I have to admit that for almost 50 years I thought I was the 'first' fireman t

  2. It was disgusting to see the workers at Pork Farms hanging round the factory gate smoking. It just didn’t seem appropriate for a food processing factory.

  5. 'Processing' Tomatoes. Today I picked yet more tomatoes. I'm overrun with the things and neighbours have stopped answering their doors when I turn up with another couple of pounds of them. Thing is.. the big 'Crimson Crush' ones are beautiful, and easy to process into a reduced sauce. They look quite peculiar inside when cut open and have a lot of very small seed compartments containing very few seeds, rather than the normal two. The rest is solid sweet flesh. They can be cut into 'burger sized' slices which turn a burger in a bun into something divine. For storage they just

  6. The report of the funeral of Thomas Turner from the Nottingham Journal , May 28th 1953 . It was made worse by the fact his widow Diana Waycott Turner died (the same day as the funeral ) after taking an overdose of sleeping tablets . This may be a reason the family weren't talked about ? "FUNERAL OF MR. T. TURNER At the funeral service held at Wilford Hill yesterday for Mr.Thomas Turner, of Old Mill House, Bleasby. who died on Monday. there were representatives of the owners and staff of the Black Boy Hotel. 7. Just found your site and I’m posting on behalf of my mother who lived at 1 Asper Street, corner of Dunstan Road. In your posting you refer to Old Mother Lacey who kids believed was a witch. She was my great grandmother. My mother, Joyce Hilda Mary Leaper (now Baker), her brother Ronald Leaper and their sister Doreen Leaper were brought up my Fred and Alice Lacey in Asper Street after the death of their father in 1930 and their mother in 1933. Joyce and Ron are still alive at 90 and 95. Doreen died in her thirties. Mrs & Mrs Lacey had 13 children, and lost three of them at vari

  8. A curse in life generally Jill. Too many people let them dominate their lives, if they ring or make whatever stupid noise they have been set to they must be answered immediatley. Fine if you are not at the front of the queue but if you are ignore it until you are served. Comments from behind can be offensive but accurate.

  9. As far as I can see, the only expense many GPs are incurring these days is that their phone bill may have increased. Most of them no longer see patients in person, but ring them during the day.
