  2. That’s normal wherever you live, my brother-in-law moved to Canada in 1967 and his close friends have always been Brits. Our friends who live in Spain always hang out with other Brits, mostly Nottingham folk too. Our Czech daughter-in-law’s best friends are all Czech or Polish. It’s like a comfort blanket. Drive through Hyson Green or other areas of Nottingham and see the different nationalities stick together. None of us can say we haven’t got some foreign blood in us …… apparently I’m only 58% English and even have a touch of Arab in me! Let’s just rejoice that this beautiful, brigh

  6. This was my Grandfathers business he was Herbert Perkins. His father was George William Hemsley Perkins and it was his father George James Perkins who first started the business in the late 1800s! Herbert passed away in 1966. His son Barry took over the business but it fell into bankruptcy. My father may remember your father if he worked there. I just happened upon this thread whilst doing some research for family tree!

  7. Just seen questionaire Can' t help myself i had to fill it in. It was good of the counci to ask us what we thought but It goes on about equal opps, what do they mean? what age are you? what is your ethnic status, what job do you have ect.ect Thisis not equal opps to me. In fact since the world was created have we improved at all ?? yes we don't have small boys going up chimmneys but we have though no fault of there own homlessnes, people dependent on drugs, people leaving there own county because they think they could be killed, people who own vast amonts of land, racism, countries who won't

  8. Emma Raducanu and her parents have lived in the UK since she was 2 years old. That makes her British enough by my standards..

  10. Thanks for the history of the Company. I reckon my father worked there many years. As a young child he would take me with him whilst travelling through Lincolnshire and the coast (Skegness etc.) I was thirteen when he left (made redundant?) in 1967. My father went on to manage a newsagents in Bingham for a few monghs before he bought his own shop in Aspley in '68.

  15. Have any Nottstalgians had a look at or filled out this survey, if so what did you think of it? The link is here for anyone that is interested in having a look or contributing to it. The Big Notts Survey 2021 - Nottinghamshire County Council - Citizen Space Although I don't live in Notts, it was my home county and out of curiosity I had a look through it and to be quite honest I thought straight away a typical government survey. Not asking questions that it did not want to hear any answers to. Initially a lot of waffle about the impact of Covid and positive factors related

  16. The British establishment appear so desperately inadequate that they will grasp at any inconsequentially remote connection with any personality to enable them to be seen to win at anything.

  18. Another loss, this time at home to Cardiff. I just don't understand the thinking at the club as it keeps signing defenders and defensive midfield players. In order to win you need to score more goals than your opposition yet we have no-one that can score. 5 goals for and 10 against, this ratio is not going to stave off relegation. Unless there are some drastic changes it is going to be a grim year. Meanwhile back in Mansfield with five straight defeats they have slid from promotion contenders to 20th. Thankfully the Magpies continue to hold their spot in the play off group and are th

  21. From Traffweb the numbering looks like the houses are possibly addressed as Brightmoor Court or even Brightmoor St. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.9545022,-1.1423438,3a,60y,138.17h,85.96t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sIx2Q3JA7I9VKxC5y8jScLQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192 Bet it's fun for Couriers, no where to park and no certainty on what house / flat is where. Post-persons won't have a problems tho. And from Britain Above 1937, using that corner house as a reference it looks like no, 22 Quaser, formerly tyre sales may have been developed over the cellars of the remaining houses.

  23. What a star Emma Raducanu is ……. and what a fantastic win. Real edge of the seat stuff and only spoiled by the mardy Fernandez when Emma needed treatment to her bleeding shin. We thought we were having to subscribe to Prime Video to watch it but then found it on Ch4 and it was worth having a Saturday night in front of the box.

  24. She has done exceptionally well and irrespective of her background should be looked on as a British success. We have painfully few successes in tennis and now we have a bright new talent all people can do is pull her apart. Talk about build people up just for the pleasure of pulling them down again.
