  1. Reminds me when we were in R.O.T. Chatting to one of our customers she said she loved Italy and had given her daughter an Italian name. I had to turn away because she called her Padella , ok it sounds nice and Italian but it means frying pan.

  2. Just under $5 for a 5lb bag here, how on earth can they charge that much on the UK market?? I think I'll go into the smuggling business, I could probably make as much for high quality bread flour as the cocaine dealers do for their crap..

  3. Both my son and daughter did competion dancing and won quite a few trophies and medals. I used to make all my daughters ballroom and latin american dresses. Almost a bale of net would make a full underskirt for my daughters dresses. But they were made in a way that the underskirt fit all her dresses, fitting them with velcro. One lady whose daughter went to the same school of dancing , was a dressmaker working with theatrical costumes. She made her daughter a dress for her exams and the judges said to get her a dress that was adapted for ballroom and old time dancing not a Shakespearian play.

  5. We went for our booster jab (left arm) and flu jab (right arm) today. When we were walking across the car park we were holding hands as we often do. One of the younger volunteer guides said: “Aw, it’s so lovely to see you holding hands”. We smiled sweetly of course but I felt a bit patronised with her thinking that older people were past that sort of thing! I suppose I might have thought that as well when I was in my twenties though… after our jabs we met with both our sons and some of their families and went for a 2 - 3 mile slow walk along the river at Ely. We had the pleasure of

  10. I used to watch Come Dancing on the tv when I was a child. Both my parents were keen and, so I'm told, talented ballroom dancers. I coveted one of those huge net dresses the women wore in those days. It appears they have gone out of fashion these times. I was already having ballet lessons, so ballroom was not on the agenda! At Manning, we had a ballroom dance club at lunchtimes, taken by a young teacher named Miss Steele. As it was a single sex school, we had to take it in turns to be the male. I remember having a dance with my father round the sitting room and he complained, 'Yo

  13. Paraffin waxes in diesel fuels gel in extreme cold weather conditions clogging up the systems. In my Scottish depots before the introduction of 'winter fuel' it was common to add a gallon of petrol to a tank of diesel and failing that to light a small fire under the tank. What's a risk assessment?

  14. Well done Margie, it sounds like you had a fabulous day. I think the majority of Nottstalgians will be in line for a Covid booster in the next month or so, it’s almost six months since I had my second jab. We both had our flu jabs 4 weeks ago, on the first day they were offering them at our local pharmacy. It was the first time I’d ever ended up with a sore arm!

  16. I can't speak from recent experience but 20+ years ago when we first started seeing each other a family across the road (in Strelley) terrorised her and most of the street. The wife was a fat, fearsome, mostly toothless, harridan and the yob of a husband who 'worked the doors' at night for cash in hand quite openly boasted they were entitled to their benefits. Dee, bless her soul, regularly handed over money, ostensibly because the kids where going to school hungry, in reality for the mothers cigarettes..... long story of burglary and intimidation before she finally had enough and we became a

  17. Brew, you need a high gluten flour for bread making, like I say, use a bread maker to mix the dough, I have to I suffer with my wrists. I usually empty it out of the breadmaker, cut the dough in two, drop in two SS bowls, cover with a warm damp cloth, leave until double in size, then empty on to a cutting board and "knock back" then cut it into small bread roll sizes, put in a lightly greased high baking pan, cover with a warm damp kitchen towel and leave to "prove" Once doubled in size, in the oven to bake... The trick to good bread is make sure you have enough water in the

  19. It seems to run in families. The parents don’t pass on the work ethic to the children. There’s a large sub-culture in this country who live off the system and top it up with the proceeds of crime and growing cannabis in the loft - amongst other things.

  20. I personally know of some people who have not worked for more than twenty years & do quite nicely thank you very much. I read this morning that Labour if in power would scrap UC. To replace it with what ? Sounds like just another vote catcher aimed at the idle lazy. Able people should not be in a position to turn down work. No work, no benefits
