  2. For the Singer Sewing Machine place, look at this old thread and scroll down a bit. https://nottstalgia.com/forums/topic/14984-alley-off-long-row/?tab=comments#comment-441218 And for what possibly might be Billy's Cafe, scroll down a bit here. https://www.nottinghampost.com/news/history/see-fascinating-photos-how-one-2004592 The cafe in the second photo down (with the Capstan sign) is named Churchill's, but I wonder if it may have had an alternative name...or a later version.

  6. In this last case the salesman was very sympathetic. We've dealt with him for 16 years. He understood our reasons and so we wouldn't lose out, he gave us what we paid for it, which I think was fair. (Nice car We've chosen though).

  7. Just think Ian, you're now on countdown to 51 years. Now it's been 3 cars in 6 months. 1st change..Down to Citroen C1, too small. 2nd, ...up to a Berlingo , too big , she misses our original C3 Aircross. 3rd change...last Wednesday, trade in our Berlingo back to a C3 Aircross (top of range). 8. This is an extract from my dad's speech back in 2001 at his and my mum's Golden Wedding. I'm interested in any of the people, places and companies mentioned. Speech by Derek Chawner: After fifty wonderful years' of marriage we've reached our Golden Wedding although I've known Sylvia for fifty seven years. I first saw Sylvia in a small cafe called Billy's in Mount Street, Nottingham near to my place of work: Willsons the Printers. I was an indentured apprentice earning the princely sum of 18s 1p a week which was, at the time, 20% of a journeyman pri

  9. Yes I've got 3 cards in total, but they aren't any use for proof of vaccination. You can get proof of vaccination either by phoning 119 or using the NHS app or online. Printed copies are only valid 30 days. A couple of friends have just had the paper version via 119 for travel to Spain. Only took 5 days and that was including Xmas.

  13. Whilst very low in comparison to older groups, it seems that all ages inccluding 0-5s are registering some deaths. This is horrible,...and needs to be more widely publicised, in order to wake up some of the resolute idiots out there. Meanwhile, it seems that two more prominent Anti-Vaxxer/Covid Denier idiots..one in Italy and one in the Netherlands, have died from the very disease which they encouraged others to believe did not exist. I find it very difficult to sympathise, as it is pretty much certain that others will have died after following their 'advice'.

  14. As for getting kids to behave.. Actually, we try to get them to do what we want them to do..which isn't quite the same thing, because we flatter ourselves that we know what is 'right'....and of course we don't always. So, each generation slightly redefines 'acceptable behaviour', and 'morality', although the basics, remain largely unchanged. I learned from my Grandfather that a beating isn't the answer. His approach was to simply ask me to consider the consequences of my actions, both for me, and for others affected.. He never raised his voice and his approach was devastatingly e
