  5. Jill heres one for you. My daughters dog has had to have a series of small ops for tumors so she is in constant contact with the vet via messages. This morning she received a message from him with the comment "some people aren't normal" along with a photo of 2 kittens walking towards a bowl of milk. Someone asked " can you tell me the sex of the kittens or should I ask for more photos" . His answer was " I would have to send photos of their rear ends" Will probably hear the rest of the saga after the vets visit tomorrow.

  8. An aerial view of Woodborough Road, probably around the 1930s, looking towards Mapperley at the top and city at the bottom. As a reference point, the arrow is Cranmer Street.

  11. Sadly no Barrie but his widow appears to still be around, From Nottm Live, Jennifer added: "It's a little gem which was part of Nottingham's history that was quite important to the city for a long time. It would be a shame for it to be hidden away and lost and we are potentially opening it up to the public in a fun way." There will be three themed escape rooms at the site, named Judges Escape Emporium as a nod to the bakery which was built in 1860 and taken over by C.W. Judge in 1889. The bakery, which had no drainage, moved to Mapperley in 1912 but shop above rema

  17. Phil, let me know if you do. I always grow Emir and Green Nutmeg varieties with saved seed from the previous year. You do have to pollinate them from male to female flower unless you have plenty of bees about. I wouldn’t attempt to grow them outside as they really don’t like cold nights. I put 2 plants in a 12 inch pot. They need cutting back after the 5th leaf otherwise they will go crazy producing foliage. The fruit will need supporting in nets as time goes on. Sounds really fiddly but actually it’s not once you’ve the hang of it.

  19. Pleased al went well for Tina. I had one cataract done over 20 years ago and it was like a miracle because everything looked so clear and bright afterwards! Please give her my best wishes. I’ve just had my next appt for an eye injection later this month. I was beginning to think I wasn’t going to be having anymore as the last one was over 2 months ago but obviously I was wrong! They are painless, just like a cataract op so that’s fine. I went shopping this morning in Cambridge (I hate clothes shopping) with a friend who helped me choose something suitable for my eldest grandson’s

  21. Not a bad start to the day really. Took 'er indoors for a cataract op this morning after two cancellations. Knew it were a bummer to get to the hospital, so up at 6.00am and left home at 6.45. No traffic so got there at 7.10, (they don't start till 8.00). Tina was first, due to her latex allergy, then it was drops in and away she goes. I sat there with me free coffee waiting. She came out, patch on, looking like a space pirate, with a see-through cover. Out and finished by about 5 past 9. Don't know what I expected but she came out chirpy and smiling, after being all het up for the last

  23. Funny how things you did in your past keep coming back when you least expect them. I started this thread in 2015 with a load of screen shots off a DVD. I've lost count how many times I've seen them reappear all over the internet. They are great reminders of how life looked when I was a kid, going to my grandparents house.

  26. Cannot make out the dome on St Augustine's (Gussies) though I am sure it should be there. Gussies was on Northville Street with the school just behind and the playground (girls one side boys the other) abutted the church. I was there 1953-59. In the distance on the right you can see Sycamore Street School halfway up the hill. Don't know what the bigger blocks are somewhere in the vicinity of Dame Agnes Street?? In the far distance beyond Sycamore Street School is the greenery of the allotments these stretched up from Hungerhill in St Anne's.

  27. As far as I can tell, the DAM wasn't built at the time of the photo. It seems to have been built in the early 70s with the St Ann's redevelopment (unless there was an earlier version). Shelton Street is further down. The road at bottom right is Peas Hill Road, with Westville Street going up parallel with Woodborough Road.

  28. Interesting view Cliff Ton, I have been trying to get my bearings, I haven't studied an aerial view of that area before. I think can see St Augustines Church, but can't see Watson Fothergils Baptist Chapel which I know is further down. Is it the white building, if it is, then I know where I am looking, I imagine that is the school yard next door; 'Or is it'? Thanks for the picture, I keep going back to it, I never realised there were so many large buildings, any idea what the large building about a quarter of the way down on the left side is and the road it is on.
