I often do that when I'm watching old films & programmes. It's surprising is how many actors died relatively young. A few I've come across recently...Rupert Davies (Maigret) 60; Alexander Gauge (Friar Tuck in Robin Hood) 46; John Gregson 55;1 point

Leo Mckern was brilliant in anything! His role as Cromwell in A Man For All Seasons was riveting, if not historically accurate.1 point

Apart from the news programmes of which ''Aljazeera'' is my favourite........there's not a lot of Programmes i like.........But i am addicted to ''Rumpole of the Bailey'' now...(talking pictures Wednesday nights 8pm)........can't recall watching it back in the 70s.........Leo Mckern is brilliant in it...... Lots of old famous faces are regulars...and i enjoy looking them up on Wiki....sadly most now no longer with us...........including the nearly Bulwell lad 'Peter Bowles.......... Rumpoles Shakespearian monologues are fabulous and very funny.........1 point

Talking of the flyover brings me back to the good 'owd 53 service. With my conductor, John Devine (everybody called him Andy) we were coming from Clifton and approaching the said flyover. The traffic in front started slowing up so I applied the brakes, when suddenly the air pressure warning alarm shot up. It was like a semaphore arm and indicated loss of air, which also affected the gears. I managed to move over to the nearside left turn lane and yanked the hand brake on !!! It didn't stop us but we coasted left round the island and came to a stop on University boulevard. Some passengers were1 point

Just come on NS after a few days "rest" so first of all Welcome back Carni pleased everything went well and you are getting back to your chirpy self. Mr & Mrs trogg a very happy 55 th wedding anniversary although a bit late. Fruit trees this year all seem to be thriving. Our fig tree is laden down with still more starting to form. Its been a good bargain from Lidl at €1.99 a few years ago. Wish the lemon trees had been the same but the winter killed them off. Next door has. Nespoli tree that is laden too, they dont collect the fruit and pointed out to my husband how many there were. My hu1 point

Forest seem to be named for their original ground, the Forest Recreation Ground at Forest Fields. The City Ground is outside the city boundary, but was apparently named in honour of Nottm achieving City status. Ian, when I was a Park ranger back in 1977, we used to nip to the bakery on Hucknall Road, to collect stale bread and cakes etc for our wild fowl, ducks geese etc. Used to get about 3 flour sacks of stuff and among it would be fruit cake and sponges, some of it only a couple of days out of date. It was quite common for folks to sort through the sacks and say, 'I'm having that one or that one"! Then take the odd cake slab for their tea... The birds never knew.1 point

I know Seagulls are not to everyones taste but i love feeding them for breakfast each morning......i throw my crusts on the shed down the garden.......and love to see them 'Swoop' and collect them in their beaks after circling and shouting first..... However this last week they had completely disappeared.....until yesterday when the really 'Big one' returned....he's three times as big as all the others and he actually lands on my shed......think he's the leader he's dead 'Leary' and really 'Strutts'' his stuff......actually lands whilst i'm still putting the food out.........and looks at1 point

I decided to write this on the 'pets' thread because if Jill can have hedgehogs, I can have my woodpigeon. She has been living in our garden for 11 days now. She has an injured wing and can't fly. She just walks round the garden very quickly, usually through the shrubs and trees round the edge, but occasionally walking across the lawn. We have 2 cats and our son's little dog 3 times a week but 'Woody' is still here! The cats have seen her but they don't chase her for some reason -maybe they've decided she is just another member of the family and not a wild bird? The dog barked at her1 point

No Phil, it wasn’t Twigdons - that’s where mum bought my dads cigarettes, and I think our newspapers came from there too. The shop where we bought ice creams was next to Bramleys I think1 point

I remember a shop opposite Judges at the top end of Woodthorpe Drive which sold great ice cream with tiny bits of ice in it. The white haired lady who ran the shop was Mrs Pearce if I remember correctly…..this would be in the late 1940s/50s1 point

I don’t need to have Ez or my kids with me to build sandcastles, I’m top sandcastle builder & deep hole digger, until I find water, sea shell picker upper & see how far you can swim out to sea, off to Skeg for Bank Holiday, see you on beach, bring your cossie, bucket & spade, get you ice cream.1 point

That’s the great thing about having grandchildren - you can go to places like zoos, seasides and adventure parks etc and share in their excitement without people thinking you’re weird if you go on your own. I love making sandcastles, but even our two youngest grandchildren will soon be too ‘grown up’ to do that anymore. I need some great grandchildren!!1 point

St Leonards riding school , there was one at Wollaton that I went to, it was my boss's husbands place. His name was Bob Davison and when he died his daughter Mary Davison took over. I know that Bobs brother also had a riding school in that area but dont know exactly where. Maybe the name was the same. When I went Sheila was the young girl who helped with the rides. Jeremy Glover the jockey used to go there too. I think he was a friend of the family. Strangely enough Mary Davison married and moved away towards Newark and eventually had a daughter named Sally but her father certainly wasnt George1 point

My only job during the 10 years I worked after leaving school, was a Punch Card Operator, but for 3 different firms. Pretty boring eh? But once I had my 3 kids then my C.V really took flight. Bum wiper, runny nose wiper, bumps and scrapes nurse, puke mopper-up, hugger and kisser, etc etc. To get 1 school age, 1 playgroup age and a baby, out of the door on time each morning, took some doing. But, it was a job I loved, and I miss it terribly.1 point
