  1. I had a meeting today with Victoria Centre maintenance manager (about imminent remedial work on the Emett Clock). While chatting he told me that a quantity of very old documents had been found in a basement room (he thought the room could be part of the old station - maybe that places it below the clock tower?) The room was dark, cool and dry so the documents were in reasonable condition. They took them to an office to peruse. He said some dated back well before the station was built and include leases and purchases of the land and buildings, many with wax seals. There were some reference

  2. @RadFordee a chip pan would be out of the question. You can understand how anyone burns porridge, but how she burns Rice Krispies is anybody guess.

  4. @Oztalgian I made my first trip to Nagoya in 2003 but can't recall going in a Hub then either. There are actually two, big Hub in Sakae which is the one in the picture and little hub which is further down the main drag in Fushimi, near The Elephant's Nest, Shooter's American sports bar and what was the Hard Rock Café which is now a Hooters bar. Stayed in the Tokyu Palace a couple of times myself

  5. I never knew that! They were welcome to it! Their punishments were almost certainly more lenient than those meted out by the staff!

  6. @benjamin1945 when I was a glazier for Arkwright Glass, in 1985'ish, we had a contract to glaze MFI stores up and down the country. One night someone decided to create a new entrance to the store in Alum Rock and we had to go down there and re-glaze it a couple of days later Interesting neighbourhood to say the least. When we went into the Alum Rock pub later we were the only white faces in there but we were made to feel welcome

  7. Can't remember it being there when working with Toyota on new models for Australia during the 80s and 90s. From the map it was just down the road from the Tokyu hotel where we always stayed.

  8. We used to go regularly when our children were little. One sunday after a meal we ordered the usual liquores and we let our son have a sip. The waitress caused such an uproar insisting that children should not drink. My husband argued that the liquore was for him he hadnt ordered for my son. We have always let our children have a taste of beer, wine, liquores and even tried cigarettes. They have never smoked, appreciate good wines and liquores and will have a beer or two with friends . They have grown up in this envirenment and they know they can do the same with their children. My two grand

  10. My day was going fine and peaceful until 5 -10 minutes ago. We were sunbathing and almost asleep when I heard this noise and I thought there’s goes resting.A lorry or tractor disturbing our peace. All of a sudden it became so loud as a jet passed so low right over our heads. It frightened us to death. Just about getting over it when another one came over this time not so low. They often fly over but this time they were so noisy and low. We said they were either seeing if we were using the hose pipe to fill the pool or saying hello to his mum as if she’d gone deaf. Anyway all peace and qui
