  3. As someone who has paid tax all my life from the age of 16 I would far rather those monies were spent on the funeral of The Queen, who served the country tirelessly from her accesssion to the throne, than being sent abroad to countries who have nuclear weapons, space programmes etc whilst spending little or nothing on the welfare of their own citizens and who also despise the UK. I would also guess that the money we spend on so called refugees who arrive on our shores, and are given housing & benefits from the deep pockets of the taxpayer, without having contributed to the economy of the

  4. Bet there won’t be a ‘flea circus’ or a ‘Bearded Lady’. And wasn’t there something called ‘Mouse Town?” Are any of you old enough to remember any of these weird attractions?

  5. Similar story Lizzie. A bunch of us girls who hung out in the clubhouse at the bowling alley, were invited to an all night party out Burton Joyce way. We all told our parents we were at one of our houses for the night. The party got going but the host and hostess had an argument and it was 'everybody out'. Now where do we go, no buses running. Someone took pity on us, took us to his flat in the Meadows and all we girls squashed into 1 double bed. All I remember is a darn church bell chiming through the night.

  7. @mary1947, you've forgotten to mention 'frothy coffee', that putrid sludge that you got in those little glass eyebaths, when everybody thought they were the cats whiskers if they drank them. But nobody knew what they were or what was in them. But it was 'cool' to sit in a coffee bar and drink one.

  9. When I was 15 or 16 years my friends and I wanted to be at the Fair as it closed on the Saturday night and another friend who lived up Sherwood Rise said we could stay at her house. So we hatched a plan to tell our parents we were staying at each other’s houses (Arnold and Mapperley) so they wouldn’t know we were out til gone midnight. We watched the Fair close and walked up to ‘Deirdre’s’ house, an impressively large property and nothing like the houses we lived in. We all sat chatting away and then Deirdre’s father walked into the sitting room in his vest and underpants. He was a retired

  10. I tried a Kindle and also the Kindle app on my phone. Read a couple of 'books' on them but for me, there's no substitute for the feel of a real book in my hand

  11. Thankyou Margie, I wasn’t sure about posting here but thought it might interest any wine drinkers. We have been awarded “ one of the most beautiful villages in Italy” It shows the general layout , vineyards, the vendemmia, pallavolo and concerts we have in summer . The film was taken in the top part of the village which is very pretty and wasn’t shown in the film. The village is split in two, the newer part is in the valley and this is the historic part. My sons restaurant is glimpsed with 2 people sitting in the courtyard at the table drinking wine. Another piece is the chef plating
