  1. From at least the late 1950s to the early 90s my father worked in various chemist shops, and he was one of the people who had to read prescriptions and decide what medication was requested. I don't remember him ever mentioning anything in Latin, but I was always impressed by his ability to read doctors' famously illegible handwriting. Maybe it just looked like Latin, because it certainly didn't look like normal English.

  2. Unfortunately different councils have different rules for recycling. All my cardboard and paper goes into my compost at home or the allotment. Recyclable plastics go in the council bin and “soft plastics” like crisp and biscuits wrappers and the top film from packaged meat/fish go to the soft plastics hoppers at the supermarkets. I do get annoyed when packaging says “not yet recyclable but we’re working on it” Bit of a scapegoat comment as they have to put something legally but they’re probably not working on it at all. We’re currently saving 2L pop bottles for a local community projec

  6. Shame really we are only ten miles from Lincoln but if you came along the A46 towards Newark you was within four to five miles of my place off the Swinderby island and you probably could smell the mince pies I made earlier with Adsa extra special gingerbread mincemeat, Rog

  7. On the subject of doctors surgeries,I once went for a flu jabs and after the nurse had done 'er indoors, it was my turn. "Will it hurt? I have a low threshold of pain" I said. To which, nurse stamped on my foot ! "Ouch ! That hurt" I yelled. Nurse replied, "Yeh, but it took yer mind off the needle though". I had no answer to that. All true, honest.
