There simply aren’t as many people here as there were a few years ago. Some of the people who used to generate/create new material have either disappeared or lost interest. Other members log in, see nothing new since their last visit, and go away again. The site drops into a vicious circle. And that doesn’t generate any new material, nor does it resurrect older posts. The majority of visitors are browsers who might occasionally make a comment; but mostly they just look at what other people say, and that doesn't move the site forwards.

Had a disturbing moment today. Bus overturned in Somerset and my granddaughter and her fiance were on it. They are ok though - just shaken and bruised. Just when everything seems to be going smoothly this sort of thing can happen.

@PeverilPeril what a shock when you heard about the bus accident but pleased no-one was badly hurt. x

Oh thank goodness they’re ok, think we all saw this on the news. They must have been really shaken.

An old friend, during the last war, was delegated to fly an aircraft to RAF Balderton but he landed it at nearby RAF Winthorpe. He had to pay his own rail fare back to his home base!

It's no longer there. It always amused me to see 'The Gay Youth Club' long before being gay was accepted. Gedling Area Youth Club'. The chip shop over the road is still there though.

Haven't seen anything of Eyeupmeducks for a while. Sent him a couple of e-mails over Christmas and new year. No response. Hoping he's ok. If you read this John geeuz a shout.

This is my Raleigh bike, It's a Raleigh Pioneer Metro, alloy frame, 21 speed, suspension seat post, hybrid tyres, rim brakes, perspex chain guard, now the downside, it is heavy, the original seat was a "gel saddle" very uncomfortable, the suspension seat post doesn't really absorb any bumps in the road, the bottom bracket (crank axle) is forever coming loose, it also has full mudguards it does look nice but when you get down to it all the graphics are adhesive stickers, the brakes do work fine though, the frame geometry is not comfortable and the gears leave a lot to be desired, they work fine

I wonder why ?

Whenever you see photos of Newark Castle you normally get something like this....... I always assumed that's just one side of the castle and it extends further back from the river. Wrong. Basically that is all there is.....what you see there is all you'll get. People always talk about Nottingham not being a proper castle (it's a Ducal Palace); but although Newark is a proper castle, there isn't much of it.

Lying in bed this morning watching the Red Arrows. How many people can say that! It was just the synchro pair who are practicing at Syerston. I saw the others yesterday on my foray into darkest Lincolnshire.

Sorry Beekay, maybe you are my big new bro in disguise, I had two pretty good ones who aren’t here anymore so I’ll adopt you as my new one. I used to cycle too a lot with them over the fields and take a pack up and orange squash. Loved them to bits. Take care mate.

I've not been through Newark since 1968. Not that's owt to do with owt ! Just saying for want of a post.

'ts cold here and low on oil so fire started and hopefully there will be some warmth. I have a good number of outstanding jobs to complete for SWIMBO, as most are outside I think I will plead age and infirmity and stick to sorting out the knives and forks. Got a good book to read so may combine that with absorbing warmth from fire. Makes me think about how we once took it for granted that in the winter it would be cold.
